People also forget, this is a professional football team that employs dozens of coaches. If Tim Jenkins on RU-vid is noticing these problems, you don't think those professional coaches are looking through the film and making sure they fix these things? Some people think Hackett does everything, when it's a collaborative effort from the whole offensive staff. Have some faith they'll do their jobs properly

No I do not. Coaches have extremely large egos and just like most jobs, not many question the boss to his face. They just complain to each other. Also, you are talking about “football people”. I don’t think any of them are splitting the atom. If the coaches had any brains, they would NOT run a bunch tight offense. They are designed for taller qbs that can easily see over the line. Russ excels in the wide spread offense and operates best throwing to the outside perimeters. Hackett brings an offense that worked, sort of, with Aaron rogers and also his time in Jacksonville. If he had any intelligence, he would run a spread concept like the Eagles, Chiefs, Even what the Saints ran with Drew Brees. Here’s hoping to Sean Payton being our next head coach next year. If I can see it and Hackett can’t, there is both an low iq problem and ego problem

Concerning in some ways, but the flashes are enough to make me optimistic. That said, it seems like it will be several games in the making (obviously not fast enough for most), glad the defense can crush it. Thanks for the video.

While Russ is a disappointment thus far, what is worse are all the dropped passes. Jeudy again had two and it is just a lot of not completing plays or fumble.

What Russ needs is to lean on the running game. It's his style of play, which is highly complimentary with a run game. If Denver wants to see success on offense, he needs the run game going. Get Javonte the ball, which will help open up the passing game. That way, opposing defenses will need to respect the run game and play closer to the LoS and that will open up the play action and the deep passing game.

I saw great improvement by the defense and special teams this week. Defense was lights out good and special teams looked competent for once (always been a Broncos bugbear they have). Game management and personnel management were good. It is the offence that looks worse then they did the last two weeks. I do think they will work out their issues, but as Tim said, they are having issues doing simple layups. Wilson at times does not look comfortable and even flustered back there and the play suffers for it. It seems they are trying to force him into their system instead of modifying the system to work best with the players.

I'm not super worried yet, because the 49ers have a crazy good defense. But Russ is hesitating like crazy on all his throws and runs.

Actually, Russ had the fastest release times in the entire league during week-1, and you can see that if you review the game at Seattle. He’s capable of unloading with the fastest, but the targets have to be there. He doesn’t want turnovers.

Great video as always, Tim. I don't think enough people remember 2012 when fresh-off neck surgery Peyton Manning struggled a bit out of the gate and the Broncos went 2-3 in the first 5 games while everyone learned a new system and gelled with one another. At the end of the day, the defense is buying this offense, Hackett, and Wilson valuable time to figure out what works and what doesn't.

The receivers dropped so many balls, they were playing a top 3 defense in the league, and the Niners had good penetration all game. It was a defensive chess match between Evero and Demeco Ryans. They will 100% bounce back next week against the Raiders since their run defense is pretty bad, they can't get pressure inside, and their secondary is banged up. Javonte should get some big holes to run through and that will set up some play action deep shots for Russ. I'm never panicking with this team unless we keep up the same scoring pace in like week 6 or 7,then it's an issue. But for now, there's a lot of clicking that needs to be done, those timing routes will get better and the receivers will know where Russ wants them when the play breaks down

What game were you watching? I saw both QBs missing throws all night. When is the last time Russ made a good throw down the field from the pocket? Even the announcers were embarrassed by the QB play on both sides.

@@Don-md6wn there were missed throws, but that often happens at the beginning of seasons against the best defense you have played up to this point and in both teams case that is true. Broncos hadn't seen a defense as good as 49ers and 49ers hadnt seen anyone as good as Broncos D. This puts a ton of pressure on the QBs when the O lines are not holding up, opportunities are minimal which puts more pressure on you to make every opening count, both QBs and pass catchers. There were missed throws and there were drops, in Russ's case he still flashed what he can do he made a few good, tough plays, but he missed some easy ones. I think this offense is close but we need to let Russ create out of the pocket more.

I’d really like to see more involvement from the TEs and Hamler. It’s always a dangerous check down to our backs setting them up to get hit bard by the dbs. Is the game/new system too fast for Russ at the moment? I really hope the offense gets it together.

Tim, I disagree that the offense has been bad all three weeks. We marched up and down the field against Seattle. Over 340 passing yards,120 or so rushing yards. No 3 and outs. Not one. That was different from what we saw against the Niners. But even in that game, we owned the time of possession. I think the coaches believed we had to match SFs physicality and win by running. It wasn't pretty, but it doesn't mean the team isn't making progress. I'm puzzled by some of Russ's missed throws, but I know they will get it worked out. The Seattle game gives me confidence we can move the ball, and our red zone success Sunday encourages me we will score.

I have so much Russel Wilson and Sutton in fantasy/best ball this year it just kills me to watch them. I’m glad you mentioned it at the end, I think the lack of motion just shows a lack of skill with scheming frankly, especially compared to others in the league. You look at the Rams and the Dolphins. They know they don’t have the best line in the world, so what do they do? They use motion. So much motion. Broncos are like…we know this line can’t hold up…what should we do? Oh yeah, let’s go 3WR / 4WR sets. No motion. And watch Russ just get crushed every play unless he makes some magic. They also desperately need to go 2 TE more, stack Sutton/Jeudy on the weak side, and then just work off the play-action with Javonte. I find it hard to believe that they haven’t made these adjustments after 3 weeks and they’re suddenly going to now.

I’ll just say this. Great quarterbacks do not play as poorly as Wilson has for 3 weeks in a row. I doubt you could find a 3 week stretch where Manning, Brees, Brady, or Rodgers played this badly, except for at the tail end of their careers when they were declining rapidly. Denver paid Seattle the kind of price that you should only pay for a great QB.

I think there was a huge initial mistake but by RW, Hacket or Schumer about not letting RW scramble. he is most dangerous when D doesn't have a clue if RW is going to run or throw! He's not a pocket QB! No one freezes Ds like RW does when he scrambles and then looks like he is going to run! Plus our WRs are truly looking super average! Not like Lockett and Metcalf who are the best duo in NFL. So that is hard on RW too! We need to be Run and Gun to be successful!

The problem is Russell Wilson. He's been more concerned with his mvp votes than winning games for the last 3 seasons. Seattle hid Mr. Unlimited's limitations but when he was past the point of no return they let him go. I'll bet my life saving by the end of the season the Broncos will fully embrace the Seattle system that hid Russell's limitations and the Broncos fans will be dying to Let Russ Cook.

Wilson definitely needs to improve his presnap reads. Besides the play shown in the video of him not reading the LB for the easy bubble-screen...Wilson failed to change protection with safeties on their toes. While SF is great at disguise, at least twice Wilson could've/should've read the safety coming in.

West Coast Offense decision making is tied to the timing on the footwork. I'm checking where Russell's looking on steps 3 and 5 and from what I see, he isn't making the read when the foot hits the ground. It feels like Russell's decision late or not keyed in. Tell me if I'm wrong, Tim.

Has everyone just forgot how much Rodgers struggled his first year under this exact same scheme, and afterwards has won 2 straight mvps? It's not an easy offense to get accumulated to so just be patient

Russ made a half-dozen bad decisions and he's really no in sync with his receivers yet. Both issues that can and will be addressed. His decision speed is slow because it seems like he's trying to do something he'd basically given up on in Seattle: stay in the pocket and go through progressions for more than 2 seconds. It's funny though because he got a lot of criticism for supposedly not staying in the pocket and now he's getting criticized because he's trying to trust the pocket.

I like a lot of this but that wheel route was covered you want Russ to hurry that ball it would’ve been an interception they were sitting on that route waiting for that pass. Hackett is trying to limit Russ. Hackett need to take the restraints off him and let him cook. It’s his first year as a coach and he’s being a ply calling bully. Hes being a control freak. If he doesn’t let Russ cook and keeps trying to make Russ 1 dimensional we’re not winning a lot of games. He’s got to swallow his pride and let Russ cook and run this offense. Russ is trying hard to please him but it’s just not working. Same thing when Peyton came soon as they let him do his thing instant offense.

As a Seahawks fan, I used to think this was seattle football, but it turns out most of it comes with Russ lmao, especially now that he isnt what he used to be anymore. Running into sacks, hesitation scrambling, not checking it down, etc. The definition of feast or famine.

I purposely stayed away from Denver media after the Russ trade because i didn't want my hopes to get to high. Seeing most of the fans panic makes me think my choice was the right one. Be patient denver fans and comment for the algorithm

The defense only looks good because they played the 49ers and Texans. Wait till they play a good offense. Just like last year when they played 3 easy teams to start the season. The defense will be exposed.

Russ cannot and will not ever throw to the intermediate middle of the field, he is just not capable of it. Idk if its about height or what, but its a big ass limitation to any scheme regardless of coaching tree or personnel.

Russ had a major miss on that third down that should have been a given to Jerry Jeudy. At the same time, Jerry didn't contort his body or use both hands there. I just want Jerry to show more effort on that rep.

That first play shows the reason Melvin gets more playing time than you guys want him to get. Risner helps Lloyd and Mel stone walls the pressuring linebacker. He is unbelievable when it comes to pass protection.

A thought- Sometimes being very cautious can be a good thing. While Bills fans love the mobility of Josh Allen...they likely don't enjoy the butt-puckering risky positions he occasionally ends up in. Let Russ run more later in the season, as well as division games. Wouldn't mind of few more designed plays for throwing on the run

Hopefully Coach Hackett will let Russ be Russ. Don’t confine him to the pocket. Russ creates magic when he is outta the pocket. The 49ers had just as many 3 & outs and their offense was just ok.

I would like more screen game for this team. I know that having Quinn Meinerz out hurts us. Melvin is in almost every big play here. I think we haven't used Javonte in the best facet yet. Javonte is so special in the toss game and wide zone run. Melvin is great at picking up pressure and that is why he is getting so much run.

@@keziagoncalves first game they had MULTIPLE times to score and botched them all which aren't really the QBs fault. The Texans play with a lot of toughness, but they still moved the ball between the 20's. The niners are one of the best, the broncos are lucky they didn't commit any turnovers against them.
