Death spiral? Wow ! Christopher Dean is a master choreographer, and with Jane Torvill are the best ice dance team ever. We've had some great ice dancers in the US- but Torvill and Dean revolutionized the sport by getting it out of the ballroom and into the 20th century (80s) with "Bolero" in 1984. Just a stunning team to watch.
One of the things that makes them so very very good is how beautiful BOTH of their skating is. He's not just showcasing her, he's perfection in his own right
Torvill and Dean will go down in history as the best ice dancers that ever lived. The best in the world and no-one can ever beat their expertise on the ice. Some have tried but they've always been a very, very poor second. They can never be matched. Dean was a genius with his choreography and Jayne was perfect as his partner. They should be named the King and Queen of Ice Dance.
@@gweng.9159 maybe you're from younger generation. Can't blame that. But to be a legend, they still have to prove that they deserve to be called legend. Torvill and Dean still skate until now and have their own TV Shows. Many skaters turn into coaching and choreographing for other skaters. But to perform with such passion at the age of 63 and 64? You have to wait to see whether Moir and Virtue will have the same passion or they just collect medals. Time will show.
This was exquisite. They will live on forever. A couple of years younger than them, but Chris and have the same birthday (I adore him). I've been watching them from their early days. And then BANG! 1984 Sarajevo, Winter Olympics, they left me and the whole world breathless with their exquisite Bolero. I watch them often, because of their poetry on ice. Thank you Jayne and Chris for your special gifts.
When I saw them ice dance to Bolero, on Feb.14, 1984 in Sarajevo, I could not believe my eyes. I just witnessed the most beautiful synchronized display of sensual passion ever performed on ice. They came, they danced, they conquered! They wore the colors of royalty and to me they were British Royalty! Thank you for the above video showcasing their amazing, captivating and mesmerizing talent and chemistry that endured. Torvill and Dean = Beauty In Motion!
Thank you for mentioning "the flailing arms" of so many Ice Dancers today. They cannot hold a candle to Torvill and Dean. Please see Carly Bishop's new 2021 videos that make the connection of TND to Astaire and Rogers, their perfection, artistry and chemistry!
I SO agree! The dancers in the Winter Olympics this year were throwing their arms around like windmills. They had none of the perfect timing and synchronization of these two.
@@88cadfaelVery good said: windmills 👍 exactly , I don’t like that kind of dancing on ice at all. In watching this I don’t feel fine, I‘m getting edgy 😖
Their synchronicity is just in a class of its own. Magic. They are STILL my all time favourite ice skaters. I could watch them all day. They are ridiculously relaxed in each other's company. We can all see 'it' but was is that magic 'it'. Who knows, but they have it in spades. 😍😍😍
They came to Queensland many years ago, and I took my daughter to see them at the Boondall Entertainment Centre. We were spellbound by their perfection - and of course, the "are they in love or is it fake" comments. I think they really loved each other and treasured friends.
The choreography shows how Chris can immerse himself in every nuance of the music. I have seen this in no other skater. And this beautiful and sad song is so powerful yet must be so difficult to dance to. Perfecto!
Such perfection. Jayne and Chris show in every performance how much confidence they have in each other. Always together on every step they take. I will never get tired of watching their videos. I wish I had seen them live. No one has ever risen to their standard.
So perfect together on ice. I play their videos over and over again. Such style and grace! I can’t watch them enough ! What a matched pair on skates! They changed the world on ice dancing! Well done both of you! God bless!
WOW WOW WOW - the BEAUTY OF FEMINITY AND STRENGTH between a woman and a man is as God Intended, brings tears to my eyes! So many moves that are no longer used in pairs skating! LOVE THEM!!!!
It also struck me this time, watching this compilation full of complicated liftings, how athletic they both must have been and still are, even in their sixties. Mr Dean, despite his slim bodybuilt, possessed strength and agility. Besides, the ease with which they perform must also be the result of impeccable technique- and experience. That's what I see, but mind I'm not an expert, just admirer.
Of the many things I love about them is how well their body types look together on the ice. It seems with most pairs, the girl is so thin and tiny that she looks like her partner's kid sister. Jayne is all curves, very nice with his straight lines. She is obviously shorter, but they appear to have the same length of leg which I think must help enormously with their synchronization. I am curious about their lifts. I saw more of Chris than I would have expected when they did "Fire and Ice" and he does not look particularly ripped. I don't think I've seen them do a straight arm overhead lift. That's not a complaint, since I don't admire those. I notice when he does lift her, they are very intelligent with the mechanics. For example, they often distribute some of her weight to his legs or shoulders so that his arms won't have all the work.
@@valkyriesardo278 You are mixing ice dancing with pair skating. These are two different disciplines of figure skating. In pair skating the girl is much smaller than the partner. It makes easier to do all those overhead lifts and throws. T&D are ice dancers, not pair skaters. Ice dancers don't do overhead lifts.
Torvil and Dean. Absolute perfection. Noone could ever be that magical. They made it look so easy but wow, you try to do one of their trade mark moves, much less their fantastic routines.
Debra, I agree. I still remember seeing the original performance all those many years ago. They started something special, beautiful and extraordinary. What a treat it was to see this video..
Another" goosebumps " moment. Never will be another ice team like this. Like one person perfectly formed with no flaws..So happy in my lifetime so I can say I watch the "Best" ever..Thanks Jayne n Chris for you deep love, commitment n sacrifice to reach perfection.
What I particularly enjoyed in their performances was the lack of arm movements. Most ice dancers nowadays fling their arms wildly in all directions, but the best dancers of them all - Chris and Jane - have an economy of movement that is exquisite and professional.
Have never seen this one. Skating will never be the same! Hard to believe they were not in a romantic relationship. They were so in tune with one another. Wonderful to have been able to follow them.
Please see Carly Bishop's new 2021 videos about Torvill and Dean that make the connection between them and Astaire and Rogers. The chemistry and artistry is spot on.
I have now watched on RU-vid many of their performances not seen by me before. I also have watched other couples too & although they too dance & have excellent technique there is something they lack that Torvill & Dean have & that is some sort of special chemistry which brings so much emotion to the viewer. In my humble opinion they are the best ever even into the 21st century right through to 2024 no other couple matches what they have & can achieve on the ice. xoxo
I cannot and will never be satisfied that they will be gone and have said goodbye, No GOODBYE for me. They will always be there for me. 36 years is not enough. They can still go on and on and on. God bless them now and forever.

Here’s their most recent performance together this year (March 2020). It’s likely they will do at least one more next year - maybe two: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QSgDnLCZ5aA.html
Love Torvill & Dean!! They hold those beautiful languid moves for a whole circle or loop or lift, not the 3 seconds modern ice dancers do. But I don't care for all the slow motion. Rather see it live speed, like I'm there...
Fair. I don’t usually use slow motion when I make compilations but I just wanted to give even more time to witness these specific moves on this occasion.
