And here I thought I was the only one doing exactly this with exactly these same tools. Vindication!

Brandon this is really helpful. I am new to this and seeking a productivity software to help me organize my morning routine and possibly timeblock my day to make me more efficient at work. If I am solo (not part of a team that needs collaboration) which one would you suggest? I am guilt of making 100 post it notes a week with my to-do's listed out and I need to scrap that for a better system. I have subscribed to the channel. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for Subscribing. If you’re not doing a ton of meetings/scheduling then I would go with TickTick. If you’re doing a bunch of meetings then go with Fantastical

Hi great video! I am obsessed with Fantastical and am starting to look into time blocking so your video came up. With Tick Tick, how does it solve the issue of your team wanting to book you and not knowing what's important? I'm guessing it's because they're tasks and not appts? Does this show as free time for others though and they can book over it?
@BrandonKBoswell
@BrandonKBoswell 2 года назад
Thanks Zach. Yes, your tasks are not appointments and therefore not on your calendar. If you truly want to block the time slot for a non-negotiable task then add it as an appointment (in Fantastical) instead.
@zackherman

@@BrandonKBoswell got it thank you. Are there other benefits to adding TickTick (vs simply using tasks in Fantastical) besides the mobile sync issue you were having?
@BrandonKBoswell
@BrandonKBoswell 2 года назад
@@zackherman TickTick is great if you have lots of non-calendar’s tasks. If you’re not feeling that burden then just start with Fantastical and only add another app if it’s truly necessary.

I have TickTick and Fantastical which I'm both new to. I would like to synch Fantastical calendars with TickTick like you mentioned but cannot find out how to do so, can you point me in the right direction? I'd like to do what you've shown here. Thanks

Hey John, in my scenario I use Google Calendar as my calendar host. I then link that account to both TickTick and Fantastical. In Fantastical you can see your calendar (but no tasks) and in TickTick you can see both Calendar events and tasks.

@@BrandonKBoswell Thanks! I was thinking Fantastical was a calendar service like Google Calendar rather than a client(learning the vocabulary) and was trying to link TickTick directly to Fantastical. I appreciate your explanation and really find your videos easy to follow. Thanks again,

I have no idea why this is something new. a Task doesn't exist in a vacuum, it exist in a scheduling environment. Also, it takes time (from 30 seconds to infinite) to do something... when GTD come out, everything under 5 minutes was labeled "do it and be happy, don't waste time writing it down" (which is a good idea untill you have to keep track of ANYTHING that it is done for various reason). but any paper agenda was, basicaly, used for that: you wrote down what you had planned to do and for how long you would have been busy doing it (there was various way of doing it). But I think it is very difficult to do anything (out of the most basic and mundane tasks) without putting them in a time context AND you cannot really be productive without doing it: if you need 20 hours to complete a task, you must account that you will be busy doing that task, allocating time to it and re-arranging anything else OR splitting a task in sub tasks (if doable) to have smaller chunks and allowing other activities to slip in between sub-tasks.. what was old is new again it seems... nice video

Hello. I’m wondering why not just use Todoist with Gcal. I’m thinking of moving to ticktick however it’s confusing. What are you using currently and why
@BrandonKBoswell
@BrandonKBoswell 10 месяцев назад
I currently use Akiflow

this is very interesting. does this mean that you no longer use Things 3?

Yes. I actually no longer use TickTick, either. I use Akiflow. Regardless, the principles in the video are the same.

I’m new to this and a bit confused. Why is it not a good idea to put tasks in your normal calendar instead of separating them? Would it not be easier to see your busy schedule in one app instead of looking at two?
@BrandonKBoswell
@BrandonKBoswell 2 года назад
There’s nothing wrong with putting them in your calendar. I think the biggest issue I had with it was that I had colleagues who have the ability to look at my calendar for availability to meet and they couldn’t see when I was available because my calendar appeared to be constantly full due to the Todo items. If you don’t have this use case then you’ll be just fine using your calendar

@@BrandonKBoswell ahh makes total sense, thanks man! I’ve been using Google Calendar and TickTick free version for a while now but wanted to try Premium to see if it would be ideal to use its Calendar instead of Google Calendar.

@@mr_red13 How are you setting Google calendar up with TickTick? I dont need the collaborative element like some teams do and I am trying to figure out a system now that will keep me on track throughout the day as well as add in tasks and to-do's as they pop up throughout the week
@mr_red13

@@Mbehr24 I had to do it in settings on the app in Mac, not my iPhone. Go ahead and try it, but for me, I prefer Google calendar as it is reliable and I never get bugs.

Why are you using both together? I was thinking in use just one, maybe Fantastical. Today, all my "to dos" are on my calendar, I think it's not the best way but it works better for me then use a to do list...
@BrandonKBoswell
@BrandonKBoswell 2 года назад
Mostly because they're each better at one thing. Fantastical is really great at managing your Calendars and has very basic Todo capabilities. TickTick is very good at managing Todos, but has very basic Calendar capabilities. Unfortunately, I have a lot of both. If I were going to drop one, I would probably drop Fantastical and just manage my calendars in Google Calendar. Here are my task lists (that are probably too long), but are also why I don't try to do tasking in Fantastical. imgur.com/a/nVVyn5y

@@BrandonKBoswell thanks for you explanation. I understand you. I tried Fantastical but went back to Apple Calendar. Actually now I’m still looking for some app where I can use my tasks and my appointments. I was using my tasks on calendar, but like you showed in the video, it’s a problem for team, and I have clients that needs to schedule a call with me on calendly, so my agenda can’t be full with a lot of tasks… I tried to use Things, but after some months, It was not working anymore for me. Have two different apps it’s a big problem to me. I think I’m de the problem, I need to be more organized to use two or more apps, but what could I do to solve this problem? 😓
