@@TractorTimewithTim Yea, seems finish cut mowers always seems to take more HP then the rough cut. My 4066 was good with my 17 ft woods finish cut even though now days I pull it with one of my 5 series machines its more about cab comfort. The 5Rs ride is so much smoother with bigger tires suspended cabs and suspended front axles as well. I use my 4075R for so many other chores, I really hate to tie it up with the big batwing. I tend pull the loader off and put it on one of the 5Rs, and leave it hooked up for the mowing season. I would imagine a newer 3046R would likely pull that 12ft model you have just fine. Did you get a chance to try that combo last year when you had that Deere demo cab 3046R?

I was watching this thinking "I bet Vinny will do this really well!" - so my vote goes to that please! It'd also be useful if you could talk about used prices for Ventracs - I know they're far less common than the smaller Deere tractors (and much more expensive new), but I don't think I've ever seen one go though any of the auctions you and Christy have filmed for the channel?

@Tim this is why I am big on modding bush hogs with front adjustable solid bogey wheels. Uneven lands etc. Means less dragging the side skids..equals less resistance to pull. Not to mention running without a front in loader, makes a big difference on fuel usage.😊

I had a 5ft County Line I used with my Ford 640. Tried it with my JD 1025R and it would be OK for level grass, but on my brush lot trails it seemed to be struggling. I went with an EverythingAttachments 4ft. Much quieter and no struggle at all. Built like a farm implement. Sold the County Line for what I had paid for it (used when I bought it).

When I was very young I remember my Dad buying a three point hitch mounted Sidewinder brand brush cutter. My brother was old enough to use it and one thing he found is if you have gullies and washouts in your pasture and try and cross them the cutter would would get hung up and actually keep the back wheels of the tractor off the ground, now your stuck. When we eventually traded up to a larger tractor and a pull type Bush Hog brand we no longer had to worry about that. Why I remember this some 60+ years later I don’t know but I prefer a pull type over a mounted brush cutter.

Before I forget again, I was going to mention to you, a USA compact tractor implement manufacture, that I have bought several pieces from recently and been very impressed with their quality all made here in the USA. Prices pretty reasonable, not as cheap as some of the import stuff but seems competitive and worth the little bit extra for their high quality products. I bought a box blade, a land plane, plus a few other smaller things, plus I just ordered 96" 3pt cultivator from them, which that item I have not seen anything bigger than a 72" anywhere else. I am really impressed so far with their quality. Thought you might be interested and checking them out as potential channel sponsor for you. I would sure like to get my TTWT discount next time I order from them. LOL Homestead Implements is their name. You may have already heard of them.

I rented a 5' hog and ran it on my ol 2 lunger JD 520. I ran in 3rd and was getting bounced around. My tires just over 5' for the inside and like 7' on the outside. Im thinking of getting a 6' hog instead of using the ol ford 501 sickle. The 501 likes to plug after turning and you leave a little at corners. But the 501 i dont run full bore like with the hog. If i get a 6' hog i would be using 2nd which is 2.5 mph instead of 3rd with the 5' which is 3.5 mph so that will make it smoother. I mowed 4 ish hours and the 520 died like out of gas once. My sediment bulb is leaking oil a little but tank was full of gas so havent messed with it yet. But other than that no issues even with heat. Ran like 170. I used between 2-3 gallons of gas an hr just guessing by gauge readings on around estimated 4.5- 5 acres. My beard was turning white from the pollen i was stirring up. 😅

There are few manufacturers that make a small 3pt mounted twin spindle mower. I think Woods makes one, not sure if the others do, without doing a more recent search. Some are even offset slightly which may have advantages in certain applications. I don'k know of a 6 foot model, but I'm certain there is a 7' model, which may be something for your 3046. Just a thought.

Hey Tim, you mentioned the flex wing and the state road crews working with 6 Series… I’d be curious to see a comparison of the 6 series with maybe the flex and one of the smaller mowers (your discretion which ). as well. Or perhaps side by side straight line, proverbial “cut race” between at least your Johnny 5 and a 6 or even your 3, 4, 5 and a 6. Perhaps each could cover 3 or so lanes of cutting. Side note. I was wondering while watching. How much it might make it easier for you and impact cost and time wise to level out the entire site with tiller/plough etc on various models. As this could arguably compare land size wise to a school or club sports field or even just as acreage that land regular mowing projects might be sped up by being smoother.

No pullout screen in front of the radiator under the hood? That’s ridiculous. I can’t believe JD didn’t include that on that machine 😮. I notice cut quality is a lot better when the material is not as tall with my Woods BB60.30 rotary cutter too. If you keep it mowed to 4” and don’t let it get over a foot, it looks almost like lawn. Thigh to waist high and you end up with stragglers, even going slow. Interesting numbers! Fuel consumption is function of work done (HP demand). The momentum of the longer blade once it’s spinning plus the shorter material probably had less load on the engine/less power demand. The engine itself may have a higher thermal efficiency too.

Good video…I’ve been using an old Ford 5’ shredder (undersized) on my Kubota MX, which really should have a 6 or 7’ cutter. Was curious what a 1’ upgrade would save me, but WOW are the prices high. Interesting - if I found $ 20 in the field EVERY HOUR I shredded, I would pay for it in 10 years. I shred 5 1/2 acres three times a year. If I only counted the time savings between a 5’ and 6’, it would take me 30 years to pay for it….I will either be dead in 30 years or forget to care about grass. If ya will give me that Rhino 6’ cutter, I will bring ya some BBQ🤔

With comfortable travel speed being your limiting factor, I didn't hear the 3520 struggling. With grass at this height I'd wager the 1025r could have handled it with up to 5' cutter. Probably a little less time and fuel. It's hard to do apples to apples with the same field during the same mowing season.

Hey Tim just an idea, I carry a m18 leaf blower with me doin jobs like that. Also I got my 6 port single point connector yesterday!! I would love to see both of those comparisons. The ts10 I think is a great smaller option!

Now that you have it reliably knocked down, I'm kinda curious how long it would take with a belly mower.

I think the Milwaukee you used is an inflator. I wonder if their small compressor is as loud? Real difference??

Tim, I know you are going back and forth mowing is for camera. I was wondering if there is reason for back and forth versus going around the parameter until you get it mowed. I think all the turnaround takes more time but I just brush hogged the first time 2 weeks ago.

I don’t like handling the 90 degree corners. If you do them fast, you skip, if you take time to avoid skipping, you are just as slow as back and forth. As you progress, the turns become more and more frequent. When farming, we always use the back and forth. I suppose that is my habit.
