Potassium Stearate, Potassium Cocate, Potassium Palmitate, Sodium Stearate, Aqua, Glycerin, Sodium Cocate, Sodium Palmitate, Coconut Acid, Parfum, Mineral Salts, Coumarin, Limonene, Linalool, Butylphenyl, Mehylpropional, Tetrasodium EDTA, Litro Sodium Etidronate- Cl 77891
Scent:
A clean, soapy scent with a bit of saltiness.
Writeup:
Once again, another shave stick, and this time it's 'La Toja'. This is an impressive option to me, directly comparing it to Palmolive. The packaging is a better form factor, especially with the air holes at the top to allow your shave stick to dry in transit.
The performance was reliable once again. It does exactly what it needs to do and that's exactly what I've come to expect from these products.

I always thought La Toja had a slightly *salty* scent to it, mild and gentle, one of my favorites! I would certainly pick this over the Palmolive, even with the increased cost. You can always re-use the La Toja container for other shaving sticks, you just mold the end of the stick into the plastic holder and off you go. For those sticks with only a box or paper wrapper, I have just used a bit of wax paper to wrap them and then put them in a small size plastic bag. Easy! I think we covered this in the Razor Burn podcast: these soaps focus entirely on function rather than any fancy extras, and I love seeing people discover just how good these mass market, low cost/high value soaps really are! Next up: the Lea, the Speick, of course the Tabac, and the best (just to hear you try to pronounce it), the Dutch gem "de Vergulde Hand".

I love la toja shave shave stick because it nourishes my skin and has a nice scent along with great slickness I just don’t like the packaging because the shave soap falls out great shave thanks for shaving !

I prefer tallow based shave soaps, so Palmolive is preferable for me. I purchased a British made vintage shave kit a few years ago on the online auction site, and salvaged two bakelite screw top tubes from that kit. I use one of them to store my Palmolive Shave Stick in. I am surprised that I have yet to find a 3D printed version of this piece of kit. But, I suspect that the smallest travel tube made by Simpson for their brushes might work nicely for this purpose.

I keep my Arko in a large pill bottle, the Palmolive and Wilkinson Sword in their boxes in my drawer. I agree that La Toja's case is the best.

Traveling with soap is always interesting. I typically take my ARKO shave stick or I'll take my Thirsty Badger 3D printed travel bowl and a bunch of samples. Either way no worries about drying the soap out.

I always have a shave stick or two in my Dopp kit. I normally travel frequently for work and also bring samples. My current sticks are LEA and Future Fiction from PAA. The PAA stick is in a small sandwich bag, the LEA has a case similar to La Toja.

The Virtual Groomroom I got it as a PIF, but I have seen it at Maggards, but it’s currently out of stock. Small Flowers Apothecary (Q brothers) currently has it though.

Great shave as always, Jack. It is really good to see you sticking with the cheap/classic soaps. I know that you can find shave stick containers on ebay, some of them twist ups. I think that Magards, Westcoast and a few others in the states sell them, too.

@@TheVirtualGroomroom yep! You mentioned it! I look forward to it! Make sure to try the aftershave splash and afterhave balm of Tabac. That completes the experience! I know your not a fan of alcohol splashes though. I'd almost equate the 'Burn' to Old Spice after shaves!

Nice shave, I didn’t think we’d get a “la Todja” from you Jack 😌👏 I first picked up a couple of shave sticks (and an aftershave balm) on holiday in Menorca, and it’s definitely a favourite now, and as you say so useful that it comes in the plastic container. The one I use the most, being a bit lazy, is the sensitive cream version. Have a great day!

What a nice soap. This is near and dear to my heart, as it is the first soap/stick I tried after palmolive shaves. I agree on the scent but I would add that there is something metallic about it (might be the mineral note/my brain making tha up). It is such a good performer but might irritate the skin a bit. Sweet soc taj and thank you for the vid :)

I bring la toja everywhere when I travel. I leave my artisan stuff at home because I’m rather forgetful and don’t want to lose any of them. La toja is fantastic and lasts so damn long. And the post shave isn’t the best thing in the world but it’s certainly serviceable. Also to answer the question about containers for shave sticks. Most wet shaving online stores sell shaving stick containers!

Nice shave Jack I just ordered a La Toga stick as I have never tried this product before and the packaging looks a bit more substantial as you say compared to Palmolive which I also haven’t tried yet I’m enjoying this series it’s very informative 👍

I think it brings a really good insight as to what soaps are supposed to be in terms of their general function. I am really enjoying trying out loads of stuff I haven't used before.

I'm loving "Timeless Tuesday," Jack! I found the La Toja stick to work very well. The container it comes in is brilliant. The only thing I didn't like was the scent. The scent reminds me of baby powder. Scent is very subjective, though. I've found that some empty prescription pill bottles are almost perfect for shave sticks that need a container. I just drill a few small holes in the bottle to allow moisture to escape. Cheers! -Rob

Absolutely love la Toja, great soap for travelling. My only issue is that I wish the cap screwed on, I find it pops off sometimes in my kit.

La Toja is a fantastic soap and shave stick. But Jack you should try the Wilkinson Sword shave stick if you can get yours hands on one!

Great video and great timing as I’ve been looking at shaving sticks for travel. I’ve got Arko (actually decent performance but quite drying and packaging doesn’t travel well, though I’ve put it on an old deodorant container) Palmolive looks a decent choice, and inexpensive, but packaging isn’t great for travel. La Toja looks a more travel friendly version. Then there’s Tabac and Speick that both come in refill sticks and proper containers, and seem to offer better performance perhaps?

Do you think a stick is even more convenient like a tube cream like something similar to Speick? I've come to think that could be the most efficient format.

I think so. I cram my softer soaps into chapstic tubes and face lather when I travel. I cram many types into tubes or sticks, but I grate down harder tallow based ones. Glycerine based I just melt, pour and cool. In a pinch you can bathe woth shave soap too. But some will just keep lathering for half your rinse

I was wondering about the shave stick container problem myself. I usually travel with a Mühle shave stick which is in a container with a turning knob at the bottom to bring up the soap as you use it up. I would like to take my Palmolive, Arko or Speick sticks but couldn't think of a proper container yet.

La Toja is my travel stick of choice. The container is great. It's small and durable. I like the scent and postshave better than Palmolive. The post isn't as important to me when traveling because I use A&E Post-Shave Serum. I have some empty deodorant containers I ordered off ebay for a dollar a piece. They are bigger though.
