The first time he said, "You understand me?", it came off very serious and direct. After the 400th time, it lost a bit of it's original luster.

I really like Ricky talking about learning the trade from his dad just before 3:09:05. It's stuff like this that really makes you appreciate how much folk history there is in wrestling, and how the essential fundamentals are basically eternal and unchanging.

George Steele was one of the best interviews after his career was over. He played such a crazy character and in real life is one of the most intelligent and articulate men to ever be in the business

I love this format! Getting both WCW and WWF in one go is truly inspired. Also, George Steele and Ricky Morton are both very entertaining interviewees. Thanks for sharing, Sean.

This with George Steele, the Bruno, and the piper episodes are my favourite episodes. Done with such class and respect, in a way that doesn’t actually break kayfabe, that focuses on the things we wanted to know without knowing what we wanted, like with Bruno talking about the relationship with Toots and others, that’s the background details we really want as fans not this “how many rats did he sleep with, what drugs were you taking, the steroid nonesense and especially the batistas dick low brow crap that makes it embarrassing to play out loud if my family is in the room…. There’s a way to do this which actually keeps kayfabe too which is nice, we didn’t want to ever grow up and realise wrestling was what it was but we do t need it rammed down our throat every ten minutes, this was class, really clever and informative; a wonderful reflection on the golden era.

when i was a kid the WWF ran tv shows in the montreal market, and it was in french, and they had pat patterson as a heel doing interviews, LE REVE DU QUEBEC.. lol.. and he used to do straight interviews and he would speak in french and insult his guests in front of them in french and they didn't understand the language, it was hilarious. So he had george the animal on, and he kept telling him to say "JE SOUIS MALADE!!" which means, "I am sick" and patterson kept lying to george and said it meant "im getting better" That was so funny..

Just a very late thought. Jim Myers said the WWF recorded the Land of a 1000 Dances at Studio 9. However, he reported he was dyslexic. The producer of the track worked at Studio B in Woodstock, NY. That makes more sense to me.

While also being easier to climb, the old Big Blue Cage was also perfect for television. The camera lens at the time could fit perfectly inside the square, allowing for unobstructed shots in the ring from the handhelds. The cage’s grid also looked better on TV compared to the cyclone fence because there was less obstruction. The cyclone could look like a moire pattern. It was a smart, smart move. Compare that cage to some cage TNA made where the crow chanted “we can’t see shit” LOL.

This was the year that I started watching wrestling and George the animal Steele was one of my favorites as a kid. I only knew him as a face. I actually didn't know that he had only been a heel to that point

You understand me? Ricky Morton. Legends rock n roll express were my favorite tag team when I was a kid. Then the Road Warriors and the Steiner Brothers.

To think we wwf fans got the Rockers, we didn’t know who the rock n roll were. Being in the uk, we only got wwf on feee tv and it would be ridiculously late at night until sky tv became a thing we didn’t see much American wrestling, by the time we did it wasnt around until wrestlemania 3-4 Yet it was massive, it wasn’t in till much later we got to see wcw on free tv in a prime time slot on a Saturday afternoon and it was awesome. While the wwf went all max moon and HBK we couldn’t be fans anymore because we had grown a little and we’re now 13+ so that was embarrassing, if I’d have had a HBK poster on my wall I’d have had no Friends, I’d have been bullied and rightly so! Wcw was the programme to watch plus it was on free tv so everybody saw it, meaning everybody talked about it and bought the merchandise and went to the tours, wwf made its money doing a deal with sky to show it in sky one so many people didn’t have it. This was just fantastic, The rockers were awesome and I learned later they were just a rip off of the rock n roll, yet HBK was better as a partner with Jannety as the rockers in my opinion. But after watching them both and being able to compare it’s difficult to separate while you consider wwf had the production; the entire show, the lighting, the arenas full of fans with the atmosphere, gene okerlund and gorilla and Bobby, and HOOOOOOO, ahem excuse me I’m getting off track, but you get the point, rock n roll certainly looked very similar in terms of movement And the main difference was obviously the selling but even I can give it to Shaun for his selling back then, it looked like barbarian was killing him when they fought the powers of pain so even “the Ricky Morgan sell” has some tough competition. It’s sad to learn that they didn’t ever get to make it over to New York, because Ricky had talked Robbie into staying where they were because he was both scared to go there (probably because he though dynamite would kill him) or lack of confidence or he really did feel it right to stay where they we’re comfortable, then it was too late once the Rockers had become established meaning their gimmick was too close to bring them in and Vince had gotten into his big man thing again later after giving the smaller guys a run, they never got the big money and are struggling so that is incredibly saddening. It’s not fair is it? I feel worse for Tobert because he is loyal, he clearly allows Ticky to be the pilot, he maybe isn’t the wisest or most determined to chase the money train when it rolled by but I genuinely believe it was Ricky who made the decision not to go. I also sadly get the impression that Tickybis seriously hurting for money too. I doubt he saved anything, and partied his ass off blowing what he did earn on drugs and parties and cars and then the cheques stopped and you only have what bought previously so maybe the car and a house if your lucky buy the lifestyle is hard to break and you can struggle to adapt quick enough and before you know it your in debt and doing any job that comes along. I hope they finally get some credit in the wwe and they give them both a payday because without them HHHs best mate HBK wouldn’t have been who he was without mimicking Ricky and the rock n roll. A quick $100k wouldn’t hurt WWE but that could help them both tremendously, maybe even a job, they have so much knowledge they can pass on to the wwe future current and generations. You must really have allot of time on your hands to still be here reading this, I Thankyou for taking the time just to read my opinion, you may disagree, you may not I don’t care 😂 I’m an 80s kid we used to fight for something to do because life was like that then; there wasn’t anything else to do, tv sucked, all 4 channels of it, Saturday mornings were for kids and then we’d got out plans see who the toughest kid was 😂 We’d have boxing tournaments in the middle of the street, you would punch and kick each other until someone said stop.😂 We also said mean things sometimes too and didn’t care if you cried, you mom would slap you if you went into the house after having someone make you cry like a girl and send you back out to fight the kid who upset you. I was REALLY waiting for their (Rock-n-Roll Express) comments on the 8/16/86 Philadelphia title change taking it back from Condrey & Eaton. And then Ricky messes (fouls it) up thinking it was the September 1987 loss to Tully and Arn. Disappointing. That was my first live show, lived only 10 blocks from the civic center.

George is the only one who said it out loud, Sid was the only credible follow on to Hulk Hogan. I’ve been saying it for years and George gets it absolutely right. They way he looked, the way he was built up, he had that credibility. Couldn’t work a lick but he had that feel and look. What a shame he was also a moron who wanted to be a heel, he didn’t get it. He went in saying he wanted hulks spot, but when he realised how much work was involved he changed his mind. Watch his video, he told Vince “I think the money is in me being a heel”….. what’s donkey, had the opportunity to be the main man and he wanted to play softball, he didn’t want the full time schedule, many don’t understand just how much work goes into being the top guy. Promos, matches, advertising, pictures, endorsements, charity, etc etc….. constantly feeding the beast….

Great interview George Steele was great classic heel but if he never did this angle with savage his babyface run would have been pointless and he's right savage did not need a belt but it helped establish him as a champion and put him on hogan's level

2:01:47 I lived in Paris for 2yrs with my French girlfriend (I’m English and hate the French, you don’t fight wars against a country for 1000yrs and end up loving the country. If it wasn’t for the French who had the best army in the world we wouldn’t of lost America but since the French lost Canada in the 7yrs War not long before the War Of Independence the French joined the Americans and I believe the Spanish did too but not to the extent that France did) I might hate the French but she was sexy and I’d loved her broken English accent. I had to teach her English as she didn’t speak the language but I spoke French (got better when I moved to France) quite well but not as fluently as I spoke German at the time (first 2 years of school we were taught French but then I changed it for German). And when I’m talking to her in English in public to help teach her (say in a restaurant or coffee shop) I could hear the French talking behind my back thinking I couldn’t speak the language or times I’d go into a shop and speak English just to be a pain, in fact that’s how I learned most of the curse words as my girlfriend would translate that as obviously I was taught curse words in school (I learned most German curse words from when I bought a hardcore porno magazine in Germany when I was 14. It was like watching a porno on the internet today but had a series of pictures of the story and written words in German and English so for example one line I remember is “fuck me, fuck my cunt please” so I knew mich-me & bitte-please but learned fick was fuck and fotze was cunt)

George is right about muscles being a handicap against a shooter in my mma gym Koncept Gym (where Bellator’s Kate Jackson started out) they had a weights gym there too and one of the bodybuilders thought mma was easy and we told him he couldn’t last one 5min round and were put someone at leat 100lbs lighter in their with him and he beat the gassed bodybuilder in under 3mins with a guillotine choke

I give Ricky all respect for having hair at his age (I went bald at 22yrs old and been bald for 20yrs nearly) but I would update my hairstyle. I love being bald as I was a big Austin fan (shaved my Road Dogg style braids off with undercut to look like Austin at 16yrs old) but I wish I could still grow hair as I’d like the option to have something different if I wanted it
