Thanks for your preview on these two grinders. Is there any chance you can include product dimensions in your gear reviews? Usually you can find them on their respective websites but sometimes they are lacking or appear inaccurate. The whole will it fit aspect can't be underestimated.

Thank you Kyle, I’ve changed my Kickstarter pledge from the 64 to the 78s after watching your video. I only drink filter and don’t live in CA or the US, so I’m hoping that eventually I’ll be able to buy the turbo burrs separately. What convinced me to upgrade is the noice of the smaller unit and the peace of mind a stronger motor provides. Your thoughts on these grinders are very much appreciated.

Great video as always! The 078s is a very compelling grinder. I just purchased an Ode Gen 2, and hand grind for espresso. If I was looking for a grinder right now, I would probably back the 078S.

Kept holding off on getting a Niche Zero and eventually ended up going with the 1zpresso K-max and love the coffee it brews. When the buzz started about a new grinder from Timemore, I started to reconsider getting an electric grinder. Thanks Kyle! I backed the 78S to lock in that $499 price, and I was hoping someone would get a review in before the kickstarter closed. I am now confident in my choice. Also, I really enjoyed September Coffee when I first received it, but I was amazed how much better it was a couple weeks after receiving it. It definitely benefits from resting (which is so hard to do when you are excited about a new coffee). Keep up the good work!

Great review, I backed for a 78s when they launched it since I can replace my Gen 1 Ode and Eurka Mignon Facile with it and sell them. I drink my espresso and filter coffee straight most of the time and it will basically be my end game grinder so seems it's a good pick.

Locked in the 078S. I returned a Breville AIO unit after a few months in I began having issues with the built-in grinder. Since then, I have been doing pour overs and I really miss my espresso drinks and the workflow. I kept holding off on getting a new espresso setup because of gripes with other grinders, but it looks like this this ticks all the boxes, so this is pretty exciting stuff!

I backed the 078s because it seemed like, on paper, it really checked all the boxes. Feature rich, all-purpose, aesthetically beautiful, low retention, and all at a super reasonable price. I use both Comandante and Lagom P64 with SSP MP and the difference is easily noticeable for both filter and espresso.

@@HaaniJaber I usually drink light~light/med-roasted coffee for both filter and espresso so I prefer the enhanced clarity that I get from SSP MP flat burrs. But even for dark roasts especially when I do filters, SSP MP burr creates much less bitterness due to more uniform grind profiles so I prefer that as well.

Just found your channel and I've been bingeing your comparison videos! I've been trying to decide if I want to get the 64 here, the ode v2, or just grab a refurbished ode v1 and put in their v2 burrs. I'm leaning towards the last option since I'm just planning on using a hand grinder for espresso and these will mostly be for coarse Aeropress recipes and french press with an occasional V60. Thanks for all the informative and entertaining videos!

I am a 64S backer and big reason I chose it was that I already own both the SSP MP and Lab Sweets that I been playing with on my Mazzer Mini A. I figured I would put the Lab Sweets in my 64S and keep it as my Filter Grinder while leaving the Mazzer Mini for Espresso.

I’m glad you were one of the first to get review out on these! I was looking at the varia vs3 for some time because of the aesthetics and price range along with the reviews but once this was announced I waited and backed it on kickstarter. Do you have a recommendation on whether I should stick it out and get the 64s or the varia? You mentioned talking about kickstarter in the beginning and never really went into detail later.

For espresso I’d recommend the 64s over the varia. The varia is great as a filter grinder but I’m slow to recommend it for espresso because if it’s gearbox.

Just upped my pledge from the 064s to the 078s based on this review. I was okay with all of the cons you listed with the 064s until you did the sound comparison. That is a huge deciding factor for me with 3 young kids so thank you for doing that! I usually have to search across videos to try to figure out which sound will be least disruptive.

64s is far easier to dial in for espresso with a better quality in the cup. But the 64s is a much more expensive grinder, especially after the Kickstarter price

Do the cups u grind in, fit into a E61 basket (like the niche zero one does for example) ? It makes it very easy to get coffee into ur basket after grinding

I went with the 078s for the espresso. I already own the Ode gen 2 which I love for pour-over. It may be that n+1, where n is the number you already own, is the correct number of grinders.

Great review! Thank you! I have a ghost burr grinder at home, and it makes some crazy juicy and sweet filter brews. If you want to try something wild…. Try a sprover with the turbo burrs, with a bottom filter. At least in my grinder these are incredible.

Great review. Looks like the 078 has bridged the gap between the d64 and lagom p64, with some nice workflow flourishes. I’ve switched my backing from the 064 to the 078s based on seeing these burrs in action, and also hearing the differences in motors. As good as 064 looks, that motor doesn’t sound great in comparison. I wonder if the 064 is brushless like the 078. Doesn’t sound like it. Excited to get brewing!!

This was an epic review, so stoked that you got your hands on all these! What's the workflow like on these when making espresso (any quirks or things that feel odd or impeed workflow)? How fast is the 78s grinding for espresso at the different RPMs? Also, what about the 78s compared to the DF83 with stock itamill burrs in terms of taste and flavor?

You single handedly convinced me to hold out and save up my dollars for the 78s. Above all other grinders I considered. I sure hope my (breaking) Eureka holds out until I can get my hands on one! I want my light roast espressos to go next level EDIT: just kidding. Couldn't resist. I backed it.

Is the longevity of the motor in the 064S a concern do you think? I want to get a grinder that will last a long time. Oh, and which color do you like better? Does the black or the white show grime and wear more than one another?

Thank you for doing this review and have been waiting for the espresso review of it. I backed the 78s on Kickstarter, but was torn between that and the 78 turbo burrs for the great reviews I've seen. I would love to buy one of each but doubt it. May just buy the Turbo burrs separate and use both. Would that cause problems with alignment all the time? I do not know that much about grinders or changing burrs. Thank you.

Hey Kyle. Excellent video and super timely! Wasnt clear on which 078 burr you had installed on that filter taste test. Was it the turbo burr or the espresso/AP burr?

Thanks for putting this video together, Kyle! In the market for a good "entry level" all-around grinder and just pulled the trigger on a Fellow Opus after watching your vid on that vs the Encore(first vid I've seen of yours, fantastic!), and kind of having buyers remorse on that(but can still return that). What are your thoughts on that vs the 64s?

Great video! What would be your pick on the 064S with stock burrs vs a DF64 (v4 or 5) with SSP HU? Does that change if you add the SSP HU into 064S? I'm primarily an espresso med/dark roast with milk drinker and they're both around the same budget.

Just changed my order from the 064s to the 078s because of this. I’ve had the df64 for a while and whilst I’m generally happy with the espresso I’ve never been satisfied with the filter, and hearing you say the 064s is similar to the df64 burrs filter and the 078s burrs being great for filter as well really made me want to change!

I also have a DF64 and suffer from upgrade-itis. With Turin coming out with a new grinder every year and now these (& others too) it's got my head spinning. I'd like to know if either the 64s, 78s or DF64V (or E or P) are worth selling my DF64 for. Apparently, the new DF64V comes with better burrs than the Italmill of the other Turin grinders. (I almost exclusively make espresso, and the rare french press.) Kyle, thanks for this video! So many of us have been waiting for a genuine review for the espresso versions of the grinders.

Thanks for the review! I was thinking of backing the 64s initially for the versatility (though I have no espresso machine at home and currently have no plans to get one. I use the moka pot when I feel like having a latte.) After hearing you though, I wonder if the 64 is more suitable for me. It wasn’t quite clear to me why you think the 64 would be more suitable than 64s for a pour over? Could you elaborate further? Thanks so much!

While I haven’t tested, based on their particle analyzer on their Kickstarter (If it’s true) the 78s looks to be the better of the two. But again… that’s just data.
