For the official record, I'm not convinced the NFL is rigged, but I do love some conspiracy theories so this is just me going through some of the more sketchy stuff and taking a finer comb to it.
Is it not weird? Though maybe ur one of the sports betters who are getting money, just go back before online sports betting was a thing, since a lot more people can bet, resulting a higher pool equals higher pay out, it may not be available all places but it’s just interesting we are getting these interesting outcomes brings in more views, attendants, more bets, higher numbers equals just more money to everyone who is apart of the system, i knew the outcome of the Super Bowl, it was just part 2 of Super Bowl 2020
The Rams-Saints conference championship no call about 5 years ago shook a lot of people's investment in the NFL as something that blatant happened on a national stage. Robbed us of a Brees-Brady SuperBowl and even caused a lawsuit!
So what specifically do you think was rigged? Do you think the players were instructed to do what they did and the ref instructed to not call the penalty in the moment? Something that obvious would be the dumbest thing to use to rig a game. If they're going to rig a game it will happen by a bunch of ticky-tack calls and no-calls, bad ball spotting, etc throughout the game, not a crazy play at the end of the game. That was just a horribly missed call, I'm not sure why every casual thinks it was rigged.
@@DanielJamesEgan The video was about plays that make it feel rigged, not saying it is rigged. Remember, we're putting on our symbolic tin foil hats here. With that concept in mind, keeping in mind I am not actually explaining reality but rather conspiracy IF they did do it ("I'm not guilty, your honor...but IF I were guilty, here's how I'd do it..."): 1) If you were gonna rig an NFL game, you'd use the refs. Let's be real here, you're not gonna get all the players in on it. That's too much of a liability. Entrust a brand secret with a bunch of 20 somethings?! Nah. You'd wanna go with the more mature refs. They're not superstars in the limelight, and have no skin in the game. 2) Since we are clear that the rigging would be via the refs, then you have to consider they don't have to fudge the numbers if the team that is "supposed" to win is winning (consider also, that a team could keep it comeptitive despite little here and there fudging). The Saints were on a winning drive at the end of the game. Oops. Somethings gotta give. Gotta get the Rams fans interested after the move (once again consider this is all hypothetical conspiracy theory stuff, not saying this IS the case). 3) It is not just a missed call. The cameras show a ref looking directly at it. It wasn't missed: it was ignored (once again, keep in mind this is conspiracy theory talk!). One of the things about refs is that they aren't really punished too much when they make these huge "mistakes". Ref who missed the no call has since ref'd the Super Bowl. The ref who missed the Lions player who indicated he was eligible was "punished" by...not ref'ing the Playoffs...how many people wish they were "punished" by not having to do overtime? So, you see, it's not real punishment because they're just doing what they're supposed to be doing! I hate to keep repeating this but this is with a symbolic tin foil hat on. In reality, such argument as I have made relies on imputing motive etc.
Everyone is missing the point. It isn't outright rigged, they tilt the table to favor a team. The nfl game is all about momentum, killing a drive with a bad call or a no call has a drastic effect on the outcome of games. Also the league is an entertainment industry, they have complete control, and ultimately they decide who they deem the best match up for a superbowl. It doesn't always happen, it's not outright rigged, but you are fucking blind if you think Goodell and this 163 billion dollar league doesn't pull some strings.
Yep thank you. People will say “there was only one offensive holding call in the Super Bowl! They let them play!” That one holding changed a 2nd and 17 first down conversion (with the ball in KC territory for San Francisco) into a 2nd and 27 from SF own 30 yard line.
So far here’s what I have. - If you defeat the 49ers AND they score exactly 17 points against you, your quarterback will suffer a season ending injury. - If you lose to Kirk Cousins, you will not win the Super Bowl that same year. - If you are an NFC team and you defeat the Chiefs in the regular season, then if you make it to the playoffs the 49ers will defeat you in any of the three rounds.
6:43 it is obvious Aaron Rodgers 12 got on the NFL’s bad side somehow, he was never “main charactered” by the NFL despite being one the best players ever. His own general manager and staff conspired against him with the NFL, always drafting him terrible players and giving him terrible defenses
The problem with discussing this is that a lot of people conflate "rigging" with "scripted." The NFL is not "scripted" in the sense that every single person involved is "in on it" and playing their part. "Rigged" is a better term because a simple penalty call (or non-call), or a head-scratching coaching or player decision, can go a long way in steering a game towards an outcome more favorable to the league's bottom line. So I believe, the ones almost always "in on it" are the refs, and SOMETIMES a coach or player can be involved as well. An example of each: Ref call - SB 57: After not calling holding all game, suddenly there's a holding call on the Eagles, stopping their drive downfield and allowing the Chiefs to run out the clock and kick the game winning FG. Non-call - 2018 NFCCG: The most blatant case of the Rams committing DPI goes uncalled even though everyone watching in the stadium and on TV saw it happen. Rams advance to the SB (because, I believe, an aging Brady might've lost to the Saints). Coaching decision - SB 49: Despite having one of the greatest RBs in the game, Pete Caroll elects to call a pass at the 2-yd line, leading to a Seahawks pick and handing the victory to the Patriots. Player decision - SB 50: Cam Newton just doesn't dive for the ball when he fumbles, he kind of just stares at it.
Some of the writings that go into detail about rigging allegations make note of the prominence of the team owners and/or media markets and their role in helping the NFL's market share. Robert Kraft apparently negotiated very lucrative broadcast contracts for the league in the early 00s, and so the conclusion is that many of those Lombardi trophies were *awarded* to the Patriots rather than *earned.*
I think refs aren’t paid or focused on enough which results in regular season bad or terrible calls. In the playoffs I think they tend to call games to keep it closer, but not necessarily in favor of one team. I think they just tend to make calls in favor of the losing team the later it gets. But I don’t think players or refs in the biggest league in the world would ever rig games. I think the Pete decision was more based on Pete and marshawns beef so Pete wanted to prove it was him winning by purposely not running it w him. I just find it very hard to believe any player or couch would take money over legacy
Hey u can't Start the video with false statements the nfl can legal rig the game they are only obligated to preform a american football game use the the freedom information act and get your facts before you literally misinform people
thank you... I was going to say the same thing... but I saw your comment ... that game should be shown as the textbook version of refs influencing a game.... FFS
1+ It was so obvious, I turned the TV off in disgust. After that I never again watched a full season. Just some games now and then, always having in mind the NFL is rotten to the core. No inch better than FIFA or IOC.
I don't know about 'rigged', but I've always had a gut instinct around sports (even in games I was playing). When the Leafs were up 4-1 against Boston in 2013 I called them losing the game. They didn't disappoint. I called Brady coming back against Atlanta (because he only needed 3 touchdowns/simple math) and winning the Super Bowl with the Bucs before the season started because that was the perfect narrative. I didn't watch the most watched Super Bowl because it was obvious KC was going to win. There are various observations that precede such predictions, but it's mostly because I'm not a betting man. I'm sure if I'd bet on KC, San Fran would have hoisted the trophy.
@@jimurban5367 The 'score' isn't the point. It's those gut feelings you get when watching sports. That 'This guy's going to hit a grand slam' feeling, and then he does. That's happened too.
@@elliotwalton6159 We tend to remember the hits and forget about the misses, giving us a false sense of confidence in our gut feelings. That’s why “the score” actually does matter.
@@jimurban5367 I'm not on ESPN making weekly predictions. I'm just a guy who's been watching the Leafs lose since 1968. And I've watched a lot of football. You learn to recognize the shifts in emotion and momentum and pick up on little mistakes. It's subconscious. A voice in the back of your head saying, "They're going to regret not kicking that field goal". But all this is entirely beside the point which really didn't have anything to do with the question about rigging professional sports outside of the 1919 Black Sox. Forget I ever wrote anything and enjoy your day.
People complaining about the saints/rams game but forgetting how the Saints got away with near murder in 2009 NFC Championship game with all the late hits on Favre.
It was rigged for sure also the hawks and patriots SB was rigged you wouldn't believe I seen it was rigged before it happened I seen Richard Sherman face after the Seahawks caught a tipped pass that put them on the 1 Yard line before that crazy play call and interception the Seahawks entire sideline was celebrating after the tipped catch that put the Seahawks on the 1 Yard line expect Sherman he knew something everybody didn't and Russ threw that pick intentionally
Whether or not you think the “NFL is rigged” stuff is a joke, after watching these playoffs, it’s hard to argue that this league isn’t rigged. There were so many much more desirable and unique teams this year in the postseason and yet we still got the worst matchup possible that ended up delivering possibly one of the worst Super Bowls of this century.
You are contradicting yourself. The fact that the "more desirable" teams LOST would imply that there wasn't any rigging. Why the hell would the NFL rig the playoffs to purposefully produce the worst match-up possible and one of the worst super bowls, in your words.
Yeah it was the worst superbowl and postseason I've witnessed. It was also the most watched and talked about. If they're going to rig things, the goal would be to cater to a wider audience and make more money, not cater to existing fans. They want more people watching ads and betting. Heck, they probably wouldn't even mind the rumors of rigging if it encourages people to bet using their "insight" to gain an advantage. Like most things, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. It's not completely rigged and scripted, but it's going to be influenced as much as possible by those in a position to do so.
@@Sam-ow4wsI mean, do many of the rigged comments make sense? Coaches or players that have dedicated their lives to mastery of a game risking their livelihood and legacy for a Vegas payout? We really think Lamar Jackson, being the competitor that he is, would agree to anything like that? That was his pride and passion for the game on the line, and no doubt a win against Mahomes would have been a bigger notch in his belt, and grounds for a larger contact negotiation, than what Vegas would have pushed him. People are fucking Looney Tunes.
I definitely think the refs purposely avoid/ make calls that affect the outcome. I’m not sure who else is in involved though, but certain players and teams seem to get favoritism.
The Buccs Chiefs SB was indeed rigged. It had nothing to do with the Chiefs O-Line being injured. Prior to that game, the most penalty yards called against the Chiefs defense all year was 51. They were called for an average of about 25 yards, and in the previous game they won against the Buccs in Tampa, they were called for 27 yards of penalties. This wasn't the best defense in the league, but it was a disciplined Spags defense that 1. was healthy and 2. had experience both in the SB and against this Tampa team. Again, 51 yards of penalties against the defense in their most-penalized game. Not 60. Not 70. 51. Then, in SB 55, they were called for 82 yards... BEFORE HALFTIME!! Tom Brady scored 3 first half touchdowns because: 1. He got SIX first downs from flags. This is a crazy stat for any game period, but this happened *before halftime* 2. He threw an interception and it was magicked into a first down for him. 3. He had a touchdown drive where he was whisked all the way down the field and placed at the 1 yard line without completing a pass. In total, the Chiefs were called for 95 yards of penalties in the first half which set a SB record. The Buccs were called for one 5 yard false start penalty. One team was allowed to pull receivers like Hill and Kelce to the ground with no penalty, and the other team wasn't allowed to play defense at all. People are still screeching about literally ONE call Mahomes got against the Eagles while ignoring that Brady played this game with bumpers up.
People will remember how lopsided the score was, and how the Chiefs basically quit after all the penalties, but it did seem hopeless the way the penalties were going.
I dont know how anybody couldnt at least question the whole Tom Brady to the Bucs to play for the superbowl in his own stadium saga. Then they bring rob gronkowski back from the dead and all of a sudden he scores multiple touchdowns in the superbowl? Do people really think the nfl didnt plan that all along?
How and when did they get a minimum of 66 starters together for a walk through for the 'big fix'? You conspiracy nuts never look into the nuts and bolts of what would have to go into pulling something like that off. How do you keep hundreds of people's mouths shut when they have zero incentive not to? The NFL doesn't have a prison system to throw whistle blowers into in case you weren't aware.
“Struggling TB team” bro that’s not even haha TB had a great defense and won 5 of their last 6 the year before. They had a great coaching staff and a solid team. Their downfall was the 30 interceptions Winston threw that year, otherwise they’d have been a winning team, maybe even playoff bound
Straight truth. Said in another reply, but the TB D line was solid af and the Chiefs O line was either injured or out-matched. No excuses. We got fucking trounced.
Don’t forget the fact the he always had a top 5 to top 3 offense and defense his whole career. Dude was an average qb with beasts on offense and monsters on defense, you could put any average quarterback in his position and it’d still be the same outcome.

There was a playoff game in the late ‘90s where the grounds crew used a snowplow to clear off the spot where the ball would be put on the ground for a game-winning field goal by the home team. That’s illegal but the refs let it happen. That team was, of course, the Cheatriots.
@@MrConverseThe snowplow game was 1982. You might be confusing it with The Snow Game from 2001? That, or you saw a replay of it in the midst of another Patriots controversy.
If you’re thinking of the slow plow game it was against the Dolphins, towards the end of the game the fins got in field goal range and the refs called a time out and asked the HC if he would like the groundskeeper to bring out the snow plow (small tractor) and he declined.

Ever since they made sports betting legal in the United States, officiating in NFL games have gotten exponentially worse. The NFL itself isn’t rigging games, the Vegas bookies are.
Maybe both do. But cetainly Vegas, or better say the mob doing it. Its going on since forever. The Chiefs with Len Dawson had several games taken off board with crazy line movements. That was in the 60s... Nowadays all flood gates are open since Goddell and the ever greedy owners went to bet with the gamblibg mafia. At least Rozelle and Tagliabue had a strict anti gambling policy. They at least tried to keep the games clean.
I am honestly so on the fence about the ravens game. Like there is no reason at all to not have running plays. They ran the ball with rbs less than half their average. Someone on that team had to have gotten paid by somebody and i dont know who. The blitz can be beaten by well designed runs and screens. Its like they were trying too hard to hide that they were not trying to win because of how much of a statistical anomaly this was. Its like going to a basketball expecting bigs like shaq to drive into the paint and they do it like five times in the whole game. It feels so unnatural.
Superbowl 50. Cam Newton, after many games of being a superstar, is suddenly inept. I know that the Broncos had a great defense, but Newton was doing some extremely questionable things...
I'm a Pats fan, so what I say probably won't be taken seriously, but here me out. Do I think Super Bowl 42, the fateful game where the Pats record-shattering offense and perfect season being stifled in heartbreking fashion by the lowly Giants, was rigged to culminate a perfect underdog David vs. Goliath moment? HELL NO! The Pats lost that game due to the O-line's failure to protect Brady, Brady's failure to see and connect on short open throws instead of taking long shots, the coaches' failure to make the right adjustments, Belichick's failure of allowing the offense to try and convert on a f**king 4TH AND 13 instead of attempting a field goal, and the defense's failure to put the game away with ALL the chances they had on that dreadful drive. I say this even with the knowledge that Richard Seymour's neck was getting crushed by the Giant's center on the helmet catch play and the officials somehow missed it.
Belichicks refusal to kick a field goal there still baffles me. He should’ve realized early on that the Giants D-line wasn’t fucking around, and that points would be hard to come by.
Look up the Dwight Smith interview before Super Bowl 55. He basically came out and said they knew every play the Raiders offense was running in Super Bowl 37.
Even the game plan was changed one day before the game! Rice and Brown were furious, the center went away... Now look at the Raiders penalty rankings since Al Davis went to (law) war gainst the other owners. Only this year was against the trend (maybe because the Raiders are so bad, no need to influence games against them anymore). Its eye opening. Raiders aint win anything unless little Davis collects some dirt on them other owners.
Yep. They dont even hide it anymore. Since at least the PIT-SEA SB every sane person sees its entertainment only (I swallowed the red pill with the first NE-SL SB. It was disgusting. Since then I have no more interest from a competition standpoint). NFL has nothing in common with sports anymore. At least Rozelle and Tagliabue tried to keep most games honest. It aint anymore. @@PhantomDetectivesLLC

We know that, its common sense. I first learned of soccer fixing in 1979 as a teen (Paolo Rossi, Italian superstar)... Ofc NFL is not immun to match fixing. Plus I am pretty sure they (NFL) fix games themselves to keep games tight and "entertaining" (yawn to every "prevent defense", it bores me), mock Al Davis in his grave, etc... But in some weird way, naive fanbois think the NFL is full of integrity, because they (NFL, gambling partners, the mob, players) dont need to gain extra dollars. They dont "need" to cheat... I don’t think the NFL is rigged, but it is clear, when a storyline develops that is profitable, refs generally give them more leeway, call less penalties against them, etc., which would be a way to avoid any obvious fixing but also improving the odds of getting the profitable teams further in the playoffs. To me, it is far too convenient that the storylines that makes the NFL the most money just somehow always occurs, and we’re supposed to believe it’s all by happenstance?
If you don’t think so go back in watch packers playoffs games and saints playoff games why you think 3 hof qbs only got one ring farve Rodger’s Brees pay attention to how saints dbs always give up big plays in the fourth quarter like that Minnesota miracle play
What a lot of people don't get either is that regular season officiating crews have various people picked and put together with other teams for a super team of officials in the playoffs so all the records for certain head officials do not matter at all
The 3 Super Bowls the Chiefs won no holding calls against them. When they played Brady and lost they set a record for most holding penalties in the Super Bowl.
Players, coaches, and organizations want to win. If players were told to rig stuff they'd call it out. But there's no way that the NFL doesn't use the refs to influence games to reach certain preferred outcomes, ie. the chiefs getting away with several BLATANT DPIs against Baltimore and the refs overall refusal to call an offensive hold on KC in the AFCCG and the SB.
NFCCG was questionable from a coaching perspective. The first half, Detroit is running all over SF. The Detroit run game is basically unstoppable. Second half, Detroit decides to pass the ball almost exclusively, fails with that miserably, but keeps doing failed passes and not runs.
I’ve Lost count how many times The Cowboys have been screwed by the NFL in very important games. Conveniently timed holding calls on game-winning touchdowns, defenses on opposing teams, not getting called for passenger interference, or defensive holding, penalties that are almost never heard of because no one knows about them, yet happened two or three times to the Cowboys. The Dez Catch. I’ve Pretty much given up on watching the NFL at all, because I know damn well Roger Goodell will never let the Cowboys win another Super Bowl because of his childish, spats with Jerry Jones. Jones won’t profit share so the Cowboys will never win the Super Bowl again. Jones tried to block Goodell’s contract extension so the Cowboys will never win the Super Bowl again. Before Goodell, if the Cowboys won, it felt legitimate, and if they lost, we accepted it, because it also felt legitimate. But there’s no way having this many different players, specifically quarterbacks, and this many different coaches, that the league is not somewhat rigged against the Dallas Cowboys.
The TB one is ridiculous, not having preseason affected the bucs more than other teams because of the reason he stated, being in sync. If you have a new team with new people you need every single opportunity to get to know them, if you’ve been in the same teams for 2-5 years not playing the first quarter of 4 preseason games won’t affect your chemistry that much.
Plus TB didn't pull any cheese in the SB. Their D line was solid and the Chiefs O line was either injured or out-matched. No excuses. We got fucking trounced.
Home teams win at shy of 52% of the time. The Ravens were winning 67% of their home games this season. So how does an officiating crew who has a record of home teams losing 60% of the time even get to call a Champion game? The NFL , if it was not trying to put it's thumb on the scale, would have had a neutral crew officiating. Two of the three Chiefs penalties were on one drive. The Ravens were disbursed over many. Most of the 15 year variety. And then there werenthe non calls.. That crew was assigned to the game to rig it.
Listen, I just ran the numbers and if home teams have a 52% chance to win there's about a 1/5 chance (19.77%) that a perfectly unbiased ref crew will have 8 or fewer home teams win out of 20. If they reffed fewer games, say 15, the chance of 60% or more of home teams losing goes up over 25% (1 in 4). So there's no real reason to think that this ref crew in particular is biased against home teams; statistically, some refs probably had fewer home wins even if they called every game perfectly fair.

Forget wins/losses. Refs can can have some control over point spreads. The money is in the gambling. Refs throw some flags, or the lights go out (full emergency stop) they aren’t concerned about who wins or loses, it’s the point spread. If a bet doesn’t cover the spread, they lose even if their team wins. Refs in NBA and the NCAA mens basketball have been convicted for point shaving.

Truthfully, I don't believe anything is scripted or rigged, but refs in the NFL have too much power. In college, where there are a SHIT LOAD more games, there is always an external crew that can stop and review the previous play for possible penalties or to review the call on the field. In the NFL, coaches have max 3 challenges, and there is no booth to review each play despite there being less games and the NFL being rich enough to have that to hold refs accountable. I think the NFL and the owners like the biased refs who make questionable calls because it creates drama and engagement outside of the game, which only further spreads the league. I hate how one sided games can feel in the penalty department, or people saying teams like the Chiefs always get every call (mfw they have the most penalized offensive and defensive players in the league), and how there's no way to challenge penalties. Even for that season after the blatant no call in the NFC championship on the Rams DB, the refs rarely, if at all, reversed a DPI call because they didn't want to be challenged.

Only a casual would actually believe anything mentioned in this video was in any way a legitimate rigging by the NFL. The risk isn't worth the reward. The NFL already has like 90 of the top 100 raitings events every year. A random MNF game will routinely get better numbers than NBA finals games or The Grammys. Every year there is a super bowl, and every year people will watch it, regardless of who is playing. Rigging the NFL would risk everything while gaining nothing for the NFL.

I love how these clickbait channels always talk about the holding call the the chiefs eagles SB yet wont show the actual hold and never mention that the DB admitted to holding and admitted to getting away with holding all game.. clickbait trash channel
Just look at most of the Lions games in the past decade. If you don't believe that it's rigged (I don't but some refs ARE rigging the game), there's your proof.
If you don’t think so go back in watch packers playoffs games and saints playoff games why you think 3 hof qbs only got one ring farve Rodger’s Brees pay attention to how saints dbs always give up big plays in the fourth quarter like that Minnesota miracle play
