Timesplitters: Future Perfect's Horror Level - MasterJay 

I’m so glad someone has talked about this in-depth like you have. This is one of my favorite video game levels ever. As a child, it both horrified me and enthralled me so that I kept coming back for more. It may be a little cliche-y like you’ve said, but also like you said, it works. I think it’s so unique in every aspect in that way.

The moose is looooooose! To this day that line remains stuck in my head. God that game was good. I sometimes reference that line in WoW since I play a moose Tauren.......& nobody ever understands.

This is probably my favourite game...this or the punisher...but yeah always used to find the horror levels in the timesplitters games scary because they are such a departure. The music in Siberia I feel is genuinely creepy and in mansion of madness it’s straight cheesy but actually kinda creepy, in what lies beneath for some reason it makes me think of resident evil

i vividly remember the part where you have to climb down that dark path and 5 seconds before the girl says you first, i said it with a loud voice, like that was the only acceptable quote for that specific moment in the game, one of the best gamer moments i had

Great game. Great level. However, Sam Raimi, Joe Dante, Don Coscarelli…these are the guys whose work will help you a lot more when you need better examples of how horror can work with a joke when trying to prove it to people. “Horror comedy” was perfected in movies long before TimeSplitters did it. In fact, much of what you like in the level are movie references. I also found the “fine art/games as art” opener and theme overall to be tenuous and this game and level, as great as it is, an odd choice to reference when discussing it. Also, the joke about the fact no one ever credits Graeme Norgate was funny, but when you never did yourself I thought, “Aww, man! If you draw attention to that you gotta give him props!” All that said, the video’s otherwise great and if you like this level’s horror/comedy hybrid, there’s so many other examples of the genre fusion out there you will love.

I remember every time i had to beat this level i do it as quickly as i could when i was a kid cuz it scared me.

You mention the music used in this level not being properly credited a lot of the time. Who’s the composer you speak of? South Park used part of it too back in late 2000 for one of their episodes in season 4. The episode where the kids get their parents arrested and the town becomes theirs to run.

I know you said you couldn't pull off this atmosphere for an entire game but do you know of any that try? :0 I'm really down to give one a shot!

To blend horror and comedy, you can either have shitty, unfunny jokes, or you can have horror so bad that it's funny. Or as it's more commonly known, Silent Hill Homecoming
