Timex ironman triathlon 30 lap shock resist. Cool enough for presidents and athletes. Visibility is amazing plus the indiglo for night time supremacy. In many ways this model is even better then the competing gshock square 5600e. With its large display and easy to use buttons this is for sure one to look into. $46.50 makes it an easy choice as well.

Timex all the way. I have the T5K195, zero issues and keeps excellent time. - about 3 or 4 seconds per month.... very satisfied.

The Ironman was designed with practicality in mind and it seems to be favorite among runners and people into sports in general. With the Casio, toughness comes first then practicality. Low res display, smaller digits, small and hard to push buttons, especially the adjust. I prefer the lower profile and slimness of the Casio, and also the band is more comfortable. It's also easy to take off unlike the Ironman with that keeper notch. I like that the Casio displays current time in the chrono and timer functions. I own both and like them each for different reasons as outlined above.

These are overwhelming popular with the marathoner/runner/bicycle enthusiasts and for good reason: inexpensive, easy to start and stop timed events (Casio makes that a guessing game with some of their Gs) and tough enough. Bill Clinton is a watch enthusiast. He understood the optics of wearing what was perceived as an American brand (although all made in China, now) and something not pretentious while he was president. After he left office, he has been photographed wearing a variety of more expensive Swiss watches, including a Panerai Luminor. But back on the campaign trail for his wife in the last election, he almost always wore a Shinola Runwell, again for the optics.

Lee.. He was wearing Timex since Georgetown, and Governor of Arkansas. As president, he used a Timex Ironman 3 times a week on his early morning jogs to time his runs (he ran the same route everyday as president which was agreed to by his secret service detail) I dont think Clinton's Timex infatuation was "optics". I think he just genuinely liked Timex in his youth. He switched to expensive watches in "retirement". He had more money, and didnt need to roll his shirt up. And now he is trying to be more fashionable and refined. Not to mention .. its a legit fashion statement regardless... the same way someone may wear a Patek to exude refinement/wealth, many people wear inexpensive fashionable watches to exude approachability, down to earth unpretentious nature, Athleticism, and a hard working ethic. It makes one appear more full of youth and life.

Thanks for the detail, Neuro. I agree that he most likely genuinely wore an Ironman because he thought highly of it, but these guys at these levels of public attention most definitely understand that absolutely everything about their lives is going to be scrutinized and commented on. George H. W. Bush mentioned that he didn’t like broccoli once to a reporter and oh boy did he get a negative response (plus a boxcar load shipped to the White House) from the growers association. The Shinola that Bill wore during his wife’s campaign was definitely selected for image purposes, since it’s clear that he has far more expensive tastes in watches. It will be interesting to see what he’s currently wearing. Another watch nut is Vladimir Putin. He doesn’t seem to be compelled to wear Vostoks, which I find interesting.

Lee K I tend to agree with you about the Shinola. I believe it was either planted or that President Clinton chose it merely because he thought it was made in America. But again, regarding the Timex, President Clinton received a lot of negative attention for it . Political writers, fashion writers, one political beat writer once said that Bill was "an Ozark hillbilly wearing a plastic Timex" and Omega once took out an ad imploring Bill to trade the Timex in for a classier Omega watch suited for a President

I preferred the old Indyglo backlight - the entire dial was lit. As for the rest, I completely agree. The Timex display is simply more thoughtful and user-friendly.

I had a Timex Expedition (round case) and it definitely had way better readability than my GWM5610 -- huge display and GIANT numbers, etc. I enjoyed it quite a bit but in the end I had it on for work and it would get knocked by everything because it was too thick at 15+ mm and nearing 50mm in diameter. It was too huge on my wrist and eventually that did me in. I ended up with the Casio 5610 in the end because I loved the classic square shape and thought the extra money for Tough Solar and atomic time keeping was well worth it since it would need close to zero maintenance. Good to see that you're finding new ways of rejuvenating your hobby, esp without breaking the bank!

I have this exact watch. Definitely a great watch for daily use. By the way, the trick to getting the band holder undone with ease is to place a finger on one side and your thumb on the opposite side of the hoder and give it a slight twist.

You'll see plenty of celebrities in LA jogging with one Ironman or another.. and they just wear it cuz they dont care if they lose it, no one will mug them for it, and it really takes a beating and has all the functions one needs. But I still think The 8 Lap triathlon Ironman from the 80s is more iconic (which has been reissued exactly in its original form, case, movement, LED, Indiglo... the official TIMEX on ebay sells them new).. Clinton wore several Models of Ironman... I think one was auctioned back in early 2000s for charity and donated another to the Smithsonian

I’ve had mine for 6 years and she’s still ticking and bright timex is crazy durable. I’ve swam in the ocean with mine showered with it wore it to swim practice beat the hell out of it and use the alarms daily. My g shock could’ve been a lemon but it didn’t last a year. Timex is incredible no comparison.

I cannot comoprehend why G shocks are so much more popular. I love the huge display. I like that it doesn't give a bunch of space dials or useless information like the year. I love the indiglo, and the feature set is perfect for me. Also cheaper than G shocks. I haven't bought a G shock, but they look way too huge and I don't need a watch that can go to 200 meters or whatever. I'm not fighting in battles. I'm just living life, so I'd rather skip the armor and get a lighter one with a bigger display for cheaper.

The only reason he wore that cheap Timex was because Timex's headquarters was (is) based in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was supporting one of his home state's main corporations, and quite rightly so, but got the double advantage of looking like a regular guy.

Good review. IMHO, for running and fitness tracking, the G-Shock doesn't even come close to the Timex functionality. I own both and the Timex is reserved for working out.

For those with big wrists this band fits, first notch.. but it fits. The Casio standard bands don’t fit at all. I have to put a nato band on all my watches.

I have both but the Timex when I changed the battery, it quite never sealed fully again. Once I went swimming with it again, it died permanently.

Joe G Thanks. It's cool to me that a president wore a Timex ironman. Even cooler to me that many USA military members wear them and other affordable watches. Most don't wear expensive watches at all. I will be doing some insane affordable watches over next few weeks.

I have had both watches and my favourite is the Timex. It's easier to use and read; I can easily use it with gloves on. The pushers on the gshock are too small for that IMO. The indiglo on the timex dosen't assault my nightvision like the gshock does. My only gripe with the Timex is the band. It really is terrible. I couldn't get a comfortable fit on my 6 3/4 inch wrist. I put it on an NDC strap and it has since become favourite work watch.

I don't know why Timex uses the inferior G-shock's type light on the women's Timex Ironman Triathlon watch ( which I just bought today, new model) but the men's is the clear one you showed. Also when watch features are listed on the box no mention made of any battery life length making me wonder if it is the least long lasting of the available watch batteries.

Timex is a plastic watch. No compare with Casio G-shock. No bezel, no double o-ring in pushers, no s. steel inside the case... only plastic screws, false bezel... In the back... Poor screws. Good for children.
