In this video Brian, our shop foreman, will show you how to set the timing on a Cummins 88 Big Cam IV. This video should clarify some questions we received on a previous video. Please visit PittsburghPower.com for more information.
You guys built my NTC big cam lV 550 hp , it ran great , pulled fantastic 2 quarts oil consumption between oil changes. Worth every penny I, got 6.8 mpg loaded heavy pulling a tanker .
Third time is a charm. Took me three watches on the other timing video to "get it" to include the fact that Camshaft Followers are on the other side of the Camshaft Covers. This video helped me "count" the thousandths.
I have been working for CAT for so long I have not done this in over 20 years but as soon as I watched the video I remembered everything. I have a these Cummins tools I have not used in over 20 years
I like the moving blanket background it does make it more focused. there is so much less distraction from all the other shop objects nice video too. 👍 I were recovering car mechanic but I never miss some good technical dial indicator action 👍👀❤️
I have seen some claims online of guys putting N14 steel top pistons in the 855, then I saw another guy claim the wrist pin is a different size and the pistons are a different height from the wrist pin to the top so you must use the N14 crank & rods to use the N14 pistons in an 855? does anyone know how hard it would be to put N14 pistons in a 855, or how hard it would be to convert an N14 back to mechanical?
hello. I have a ntc-formula 350 big cam 4 cummins engine. I have been getting in trouble with the law for excessive black smoke. I have done lots of things to the engine to mitigated that problem and seem to not work. the only think that I can think pf is that either is out of timing, but if I turn it on seems to be working properly, just with the excess of black smoke on cylinders 1-4, 5 and 6 dont smoke but seems like there crude diesel. the other thing that i have a question on is if that particular engine has the stcthin
stc oil control valve that could be causing the problem. this is a top stop injector type engine that I have. please if you have any suggestions on my problem any would be useful. I don’t know what else to do. not many good mechanics around my area.
