"The best knowledge is that which you have learned and earned." I think that's chiseled over the entrance to the School of Hard Knocks. Thanks for you've shared. Greetings from central Illinois
I dont know if I will ever port a saw but I do run them for work and I cant thankyou enough for the information you've given me in understanding how the tools of my trade work. Between you, Buckin, and Ironhorse I have gained so much knowledge in understanding the fundamentals of a saw and it has helped in diagnosing problems, tuning the saw, and sharpening. I love to learn more and I love to be humbled by someone with far greater knowledge than me. Please do not stop making videos.
Killer information. Harvey is a happy man.💪🏻💚. I stopped by the bearing spot around the corner from my house. They said any bearing I want size, shape and material in various rpm ranges. That’s exciting ehh. .!!!🦾🪓⚡️💙
Awsome, love the knowledge you share and insight you provide. I’m hooked brother! ZOO-YORK leave fast or die faster 😆🤣 love that shirt! Be careful getting that brake cleaner at the Zoo!
I’m excited for this. I’m wanting to take up porting as well. Just taking up as much info as I can from you and other fellas. Keep up the good work brother! Love the content
Right on buddy! Been following along on this build at home with a 61 passed on down by my pops. Subbed a few months back from small town in Ontario n lovin the channel plenty helpful n easy goin. Keep up the good work!! Cheers guys 🍻
Hey Tinman buddy from a Montana concrete'r. I love watchin your videos and the info you give. I actually have now ported 2 stihls and am workin on several other saws thanks to you and Ol' Harve, and ofcorse the Walkers. Keep up the awesome work buddy and stay healthy👌👌
That things gonna be a screamer! I have been looking for a 266, haven't found one yet, I have 5 288 and 2 394 huskys to build right now though, can't wait for the 394, it will be like back in the day when I was loggin, I carried a 394 most of the time with a 36 inch bar.
Your videos are so relevant to me. I just successfully ported a black top 61 with a 268 top end. I also the day after blew up a 66 thtat I put a ported 272 top end on. If your intrested I put a short video up of the 61 on my channel. Thanks for the help.
Hi. You mentioned "go fast" bearings, what is those compared to standard bearings. I also "zero drag brass inserts" placed between seal and shaft. The shaft is more free and not held back by seals. Nice vid👍
Tinman, forgive me but I've only been watching your channel since you started the echo build series. Which mix oils do you not care for? You have peaked my curiosity. I only run Stihl synthetic mix, mainly because it is easy for my to get. Thanks for the videos. They're great.
Thank you for these video's, i have learnt so much since finding your channel. Can i ask 2 questions? Will increasing your blow down increase torque? (As a general rule) Can i ask why you don't like widening ports? Thanks.
Good place to start with those numbers, quality gear going into this one. Ironhorses 265/272's just have an awesome, unique sound to them. Are you looking to do a custom exhaust as well if you are trying to wring every ounce out of this one?
Hey Pat, I really don't touch those either, I could port one but Id bet money that I'd have issues with the carb and the bearings and or rod wouldn't last long.
Could i ask you to open one up to show a true world difference/ similarity between consumer grade and commercial grade chainsaws? , with measurement of crank, rods, and bearings. This way those who work on weekends can know what they are buying, and not just relying on “commercial propaganda”. I’m still running my poulan pro 5020, after 3 years of 15-20 cord/year, and have also just stepped up to a Husqvarna 545, also advertised as a 50cc saw.
In theory, if I use a caliper to measure the transfer ports, and they are dead nuts even, could i blow into the spark plug hole to find out when the transfer ports open?
Just remember 40 thou is roughly 1mm. .040" = 1mm. So. 10 thou, (.010") = 1/4 of a mm (.25mm) 20 thou, (.020") = 1/2 a mm (.5mm) Etc. 4 thou, (.004) = 1/10 of a mm (.1mm) The actual conversion is .03937" = 1mm but for rough work rounding up to .040 makes the conversions easy.
So brief tech question here. I've got a 266. Base gasket delete. Muffler mod. Runs nice. But thinking about advancing the ignition timing as I have done on other saws. Any reccomendation for how far to advance it? What about on a 365 x torq?
Has anyone increased crankcase pressure/compression ratio. How you could do that I’m not too sure, only way I could think off the top of my head is using a turbo.
Hi tinman, I have a question for you, Does canada enforce ethanol in your gasoline ? And if so, what are you feeling on it in respect to chainsaw engine maintenance ?
What can be done on a husky 455 to get more out of it? A little more open on the muffler and tune for that? Im going to buy a cylinder for my 460magnum to see what i can to for it :)
Good saw, not the fastest but strong for what it is. Some of tbose mufflers are pretty choked up where as others are wide open. Muffler mods get the heat out so I think its a good idea.
Question: you added .002” to your squish number because of motoseal. Would you also need to add something to the starting points for intake/exhaust/transfer ports in your evaluation for final grind heights?of final
