I consider the trigger to be one of the most important parts of a precision rifle. For me, the dynamics of the trigger have a huge effect on how consistently I can shoot a rifle, espeically when that rifle isn’t “locked down” in a bench rest. Recently I performed a rebuild on a HOWA 1500 I was having trouble with, and there was one thing left to address: the trigger. In this story I’ll walk through the process of installing and fine-tuning a Timney 609 drop-in trigger upgrade for the HOWA 1500 in that rifle.

I also installed a 1.5lb spring kit from Gunbloke off ebay. Cost me about $15.00 and made a huge improvement. I would have liked to have a Timney but can't see there being a $140.00 improvement over what I have now.

Keep the h.a.c.t, remove the trigger and actuator, clip 1.5 - 2 coils on the actuator spring and adjust the tension screw if needed. Save yourself $150. Howa made a great trigger out the box.

I have a weatherby vanguard 2 with the same factory 2 stage trigger and installed a gun-bloke trigger spring kit ($20) and now she breaks right at 1 lb. It was easy to install and easy to follow instructions. Well worth the money and they come in different pull weights 2.5,2.0,1.5,1.0 lb , I got the lightest and I’m extremely happy with it.

I have a howa 1500 in 6.5 creedmoor and I really like the stock trigger. The rifle is shooting very well, probably better than I can but I need to work up some loads to find my best powder charge. But I need a chrono for this too... Really good to see you are enjoying your howa now...

I have the gunbloke 1.0lb spring kit and it works and feels great, still retains crispness and with repeated blows from a wooden mallet to the barrel and action resulted in zero malfunctions, I like my triggers light crisp and safe.

I recently bought an older production 1500 from before they came out with the HACT 2-stage... probably a 6 lbs, gritty, stagey single stage trigger. Upgraded to a Rifle Basix drop-in and now it’s an absolute joy shoot. Trigger upgrades are probably the bang-for-your-buck mod you can do.

Just ordered a new trigger for my Howa 1500 in .223 earlier today. Went for a Rifle Basix to try something else (already have a Timney in my Remington 700). The old (pre-HACT) I have on my Howa 1500 in .270 is nice and light, but the new HACT is a bit to heavy for my taste.

I did the same as many and changed the springs and polished the sears. Can now get the trigger safely down to half a pound if I want too. Cost me $22 Australian. Way less than a Timney. Timney triggers have their place but not to replace the HACT triggers, just my opinion.

I just added a Timney trigger to my Howa 1500. I purchased a 2ld trigger. Im not that much of a fan of the feel of it. It feels heavier than 2 lbs and not much of an improvement over the stock trigger. Im going to try adjusting it down like you showed in the video. I wish the safty was still 3 position. Its not ideal for hunting.

All you needed to do was tighten the adjustment screw to take out all creep, then cut 1 coil off the trigger spring. Then you'd have a glass rod break at 1.5 lbs...

bought the howa oryx in 6.5 creed. took it to the range got it zeroed in about 9 shots. hit the 500 yard, too easy not even a miss, took it to the 1000yd after qualifying to use the 1000yd range... hit 3 out of 4 shots. for a box gun and just throwing a scope on it I was insanely impressed. i've heard some of the howa stuff can be hit or miss, but i certainly got a hit.... and 1 miss .... get it .... cause i threw one shot at 1000 .... its a good gun.... k bye

Did you try adjusting the factory trigger? Did you try shortening or changing either spring in the factory trigger? I did take one loop off the main trigger spring in my Howa 1500 factory trigger and am pleased with the results. I don't have a trigger scale to measure the results but it felt a lot better, not the lawyer trigger that shipped with my 1500,

I nearly bought another Howa but when I learned it had been fitted with a Timney, I passed it off. There's nothing wrong with the factory trigger and it benefits from a 3 stage safety. A 1 Lb trigger is for range time only. Completely unsafe for a field rifle.

I have a Howa 1500 chambered in 300 WM. The Hoag stock is not satisfactory, far too flexible for long range precision. Just looked at the KRG product line. Nothing there for the LA. Any alternates that you might suggest for the Howa 1500 LA? I am attempting to get into LR shooting on a retirement budget. The gun was left to me and would like to use it as a trainer. if the trigger does not completely clear the sear during discharge, there is no point getting it. the interference between the sear and the lower portion of the hammer causes an inconsistent primer strike. there are some old rifles with awful triggers, but the design cleanly clears on release, leading to an impressive consistency. trigger pull weight is relatively pointless if the trigger doesnt do its job.

I get similar if noy better with my stock mossberg mvp 223, savage fv12 6.5 creedmoor, Sako robotech pro 30-06 and tikka t3x varmint 308 at 100yards my own loads! the setup is all factory ready. paid 650$ canadian for mossberg, 380$ savage, and 1400$ tikka and sako each. you don't need all that blows and whistles to be .3 inch group. you need a good rifle excellent reloading skills and be a very good shot. my 22lr cz 455 ultra match gets me .5 inch group of 10 rounds in 100yards "most of the times" if its not windy and I don't have control over cci blazers laoding process. by the way, you got a great rifle, I am not bashing that. but don't get lost into being all fancy and high tech. not everyone gets free products like you....!

I have used Timney, Trigger Tech, and Jewel triggers. All of which are well better than factory anything. I also used the MCarbo spring kit in my T/C because no one offered a replacement. That's a great question however I wonder if the small group was due to him shooting and extremely cold and snowy weather? This may have caused the barrel to not heat up therefore keeping a tighter grouping. Your observation is interesting.

This is no longer a Howa 1500. Just like when you buy a Remington 700 action and custom build it you don't say hey here's my Remington 700. I love the pursuit of making complete factory rifles shoot 1/2 moa. I have a Savage 110 6.5 that shoots 1/2 I have a Ruger American Predator in 308 shoots 1/2. Both are factory well to be honest the Ruger has a magpul stock on it. Oh and buy the way stock triggers in both.
