Now he must navigate palace politics, the war his father left behind, and the emotional strings of his past life. Watch the Epic final battle between him and The Dauphin (Robert Pattinson), the narcissistic heir to the French throne, which we later know to be called ‘The Battle of Agincourt’ - one of the greatest English victories in the Hundred Years' War.

Agincourt was fought on a freshly-ploughed field, after a night of rain. By the time the French Battles reached the English lines they were exhausted just from wading through the mud, all the time being shot at by the English archers. Henry had 5,000 archers at Agincourt, who, in one minute, could put 60,000 arrows in the air.

Why would you fight 1 on 1 when you outnumbered his army damn near 10-1 and your army has way more mounted cavalry and heavily armored knights? That would just be stupid. What does Bane say to Batman? Something like... "You didn't think I'd risk the battle for Gotham's soul on a fist fight with you?" That said you should probably just say as much. There's no dishonor in it. Not mock the other guys courage. The fact that they actually used warhammers to get past the armor rather than swords is so satisfying to me as a historic weapons nerd
@thegreenreaper6660
@thegreenreaper6660 Год назад
Agreed. The French forces had a lot of heavy cavalry, in full plate. Trying to engage those with swords, would be impossible, where as warhammers were designed to not only pierce plate with the stake-end, but the blunt end of the hammer was excellent in causing concussions and other fractures, when simply denting the heavy plate: The Warhammer was the weapon of choice against heavy armored troops.
@wr0ng569
@wr0ng569 Год назад
@@thegreenreaper6660You wouldn't really use the pointy end to stab through armor, as it'd get stuck easily, or sometimes not even penetrate enough to inflict a serious injury. The hammer head was really the primary 'side' because of the sheer amount of blunt force.
@thegreenreaper6660
@thegreenreaper6660 Год назад
@@wr0ng569 TRue, though most warhammers had a blunt side ánd a spike on the other side. The blunt side could easyly cause big dents, resulting into broken ribs, or skulls, underneath the armor. The spike, which got its extra momentum from the weight of the blunt hammer, could actually pierce the plate as well. A well-aimed head-slam would pierce the skull, killing someone instantly.

Key moment in history. In fact, many historians claim that this was the beginning of the end for the medieval knight in Europe, for after so many people heard that simple archers slew so many knights on the field of Agincourt, they began to lose faith in the invincibility of the armor clad knight.
@AVGyerra22
@AVGyerra22 2 года назад
Though, knights were never deemed as invincible and that misconception only came about in the modern ages after plate armor lost its viability in the battlefield; if they were deemed invincible as they already were, their armor would not continuously improve over the years to come because why should they? They're "invincible" But history shows the opposite, so it's safe to say soldiers in that era did not see knights as invincible, but rather elite units with better gear.

I believe it was when guns were mass produced and artillery(cannons) became common place that really killed them off. Before then guns were for the elite, but when the time came that even peasants can have them, then what was the point of training an elite warrior who's a master in melee and horseback from childhood to adulthood when you can simply train a peasant for a few weeks with a gun who can pull a trigger and kill a knight from meters apart.

Not even close agincourt in history are more bloodier than the one in the film. It was supposed to be more chaotic, the English use wooden stake to protect their archers from cavalry and the French supposed to attack the English with their infantry after their cavalry charge fail. The French and English mainly fought on foot in agincourt and it was very chaotic and bloody, the French suffered heavy casualties in that battle including four of their leaders were killed.

@lt.branwulfram4794
@lt.branwulfram4794 Год назад
You’re right that armour does add weight, it just isn’t the type of weight you’re thinking of. If armour was that clunky and impractical, nobody would wear it. Even before science, armourers and metallirgists weren’t stupid. They took measurements for their clients in order to properly form the armour to their figure. The full plate harness was a series of overlapping plates that had to be hard in some areas and soft in others. Certain areas were left unarmoured to allow for equestrian endeavours and mobility in combat, using mail voiders to compensate. The plates were attached to the wearer through buckled leather straps and bits of string called pointes on their arming garments to take the stress of the component off of their body sleightly abd make it more bearable to wear. The sabatons came first and they wear pointed to the the lesrher arming shoes. These were optional for knights fighting on foot. The greaves covered the shins and were enclosed by a rivet, followed by the cuisse strapped around the knee/poleyn area and pointed to the waist of the arming trousers. A mail skirt was then put over the groin area, then the breast and backplates went on, followed by the placard and fauld covering the abdominal region. The gorget or bevor, protecting the neck, either went on before or after the breastplate. The vambraces, consisting of the upper canon on the forearm, the couter on the elbow and the lower canon on the biceps, went on, riveted at the forearm, strapped at the elbow and pointed to the shoulder. Afterwards, the pauldrons, covering the shoulders, overlapped. The last bits to put on are also the most modular, the helm and the gauntlets. The helm came in a variety of types, like the simple sallet or the fully enclosed armet. Gauntlets could either be formed to the hand with riveted articulation or be of a simple hourglass shape to allow wrist mobility. Fingers were either separate, to allow for more dextrous martial manuevers, or mitten style, to disperse the impact of an opposing weapon hitting the gauntlets.

I clicked on this casually. I was looking for a new TV series to watch. It took me a while to realize I was watching a movie, not a TV series. I savored every minute of this movie. I loved the dialogue, especially King Henry's. Some of his conversational lines were so beautiful that I had to rewind and read it again (I had subtitles on). I especially loved his lines when he was forcing his advisor to remember how he came into contact with the assassin. I am not knowledgeable about world history at all. I never even heard of King Henry til this movie. But this movie has sparked a genuine interest in learning more about him.

It's amazing how an English king's war to invade France can be portrayed as a heroic anti-war story in the favour of the English ... Just emphasized the dauphin’s idiocy. How could he not see that the whole time his army was thinning was because of the mud and heavy armour. Yet he still uses heavy armour to fight a battle-tired Henry. It made me believe Catherine when she said her brother was too stupid to form a plan. I was afraid Henry underestimated France, when in fact he underestimated his own counsel and his father’s legacy.

it's a movie loosely based of of a play not even the actual battle, not a documentary. The English knights wore armor as heavy as the french, armor isn't as cumbersome as portrayed and the dauphin wasn't even at the battle and there was no duel. French leader was a young duke of orlean who couldn't control his men and ignored the advice of his commanders who had cornered Henry in the first place, witling down his forces while bolstering their own with another French army soon to be there. So while it might not have been the Dauphin it is true that the french leader was indeed a young brat who got baited into losing tragically. It is because of said armors that so many french knights had survived, forcing Henry to execute them as there were too many to keep captive.

the English longbowmen are legendary, and with good reason: a longbow needed a draw weight of 100 pounds (more than double that of an Olympian athlete), so much pull that today they can be identified by their very enlarged left arm bones, 250 yards range, could penetrate chainmail and impale both men and horses (at the same time) and even four fingers thick reinforced doors. Imagine these weapons in the hands of expert archers, trained from childhood, generation after generation for hundreds of years, shooting an endless rainfall of arrows (up to 10 per minute for a single archer, multiply that for 3000) and you bet any army woulda been in serious trouble
