In a 1987 interview on "Good Morning America", Dalton said he turned down the role in 1971 because he was "too young" for it, and because of the imposing legacy of Sean Connery. Dalton had been approached by Broccoli again in 1982, when it looked like Moore was going to resist playing Bond again in "Octopussy" (1983).

Honestly, Timolthy Dalton was the only one who played James Bond with the orginial component. He wantes to play Bond with his orginiality.

Timothy Dalton needed to portray James Bond for more films. His portrayal was so good and realistic! It was as Ian Fleming envisioned the character. Dalton's portrayal of Bond was a return to the seriousness of the Connery films and On Her Majesty's Secret Service. It was needed. Daniel Craig resembles Robert Shaw as Red Grant from From Russia With Love not James Bond. Though Daniel Craig's portrayal is far better than Pierce Brosnan's

Dearest Timothy, I am in MI6 from home and am working for them for a very long time till now, unfortunately without pay for over 40 years! I have said who I am in MI6 in a text at 765588 or 65588 on the internet! MI6 may still be invaded by Odessa and DC.007! So for now I cannot come! I cannot walk properly as I am now 69 and have difficult walking! I adore you and 007 and think the world of you and your lot including most of the 007! That's why he said he was approached ''3 or 4 times''. I suspect those were 1968 and/or 1971 (this is where there is conflicting info if it was approached for On Her Majesty's or Diamonds), 1981 and 1983.

Timothy Dalton is an educated, stage trained actor. This interviewer had a script, a formula. Dalton changed the image, and I don't think she was prepared for it (and it showed). He did an interview for "Wogan" on the BBC for Licence To Kill, which was much better. This was a ten minute slot, a bit of entertainment for those viewing, nothing more.
