Thanks for making this video, been trying to plan a camp here and was hard to see how much room a single campsite provides. Thanks for showing all the features!
Thank you for watching and sending this note. I’m glad you liked it but this video is very old. Are you interested in Tim’s Ford or camping comfort? If you are interested in camping comfort, check out my more recent videos. The one on the Greenbrier Campground shows our current setup. Take care.
@@moderntentcamping mostly interested in camping comfort but it was great to see Tim’s Ford too. I’ll check out your more recent videos! Keep up the great work. Everything on RU-vid seems backpacking focused, and they love to sell that stuff in the stores because it’s so expensive. Your method of camping is superior!
@@bluetoast8584 You are exactly right. Most camping videos are designed to sell backpacking equipment which is poorly suited for family tent camping. I used to buy a lot of stuff from REI and Cabellas but eventually realized that their gear was very limited and their clerks don’t know much at all about family camping. Now I buy most of my camping clothes from Dicks and Academy. And I have bought most of my equipment from Amazon, Lowe’s, and Home Depot. Thanks again for watching.
Mr. Douglass...very nice video...cool looking rope light...and enjoyed seeing your trusty tree round with the handle!!! All the best to you and your wife.
Brent Griffin Hey Brent, I owe you one for suggesting that handle. At first, I couldn't see much of advantage but now, I wouldn't have a tree round without a handle. Thanks. And thanks for the comments.
I always get the electric site I can't sleep without a Fan running.....but I do have a battery operated tent fan as well just in case LOL...I love the addition of the Handle on the Tree round....Boy I added the tree round after you first debut it in a video but how did I miss that handle.....that will keep me from burning it and having to find another one for the next outing.....
Considering a Canvas tent rather than a nylon tent. Although heavier I do not plan to go pack backing with it. Can you give me your opinion on what you think or recommend for camping with pro and con on both. I am 6'-3" so prefer a tent with high ceilings which I have seen on some of the higher priced cabin tents.
robert blake Hey Robert. That’s a great question that all campers should be discussing. In terms of size, I believe that a 6 person Tent is the most versatile if you will be camping in developed state and federal Campgrounds. It is large enough to accommodate a couple with 2 small children or dogs. It is tall enough to stand in. It packs small enough to carry in a small car. And it will fit in almost any campsite. Smaller tents are not as comfortable and larger tents may not fit in some campsites. The one exception is if you plan to do a lot of winter camping and plan to sleep on cots. Then you will want a larger tent. Regarding canvas tents, they seem to be the best choice for winter or cool weather camping. They block the wind better and hold in heat better. But, they take much longer to dry when wet. Since we do a lot of summer camping in the eastern US where it rains often, we prefer a polyester/nylon tent that dries faster. In direct sun, the polyester/nylon tent with lots of mesh will degrade faster than canvas and may be hotter but after the sun sets, I think it cools faster than a canvas one. If you want a canvas tent, be sure to look at Kodiak Flex Bows and Cabins. Several other companies make good quality canvas tents. I’d sure like to know what you decide and how you like it if you have the time to share. Thanks for the question.
Great video. Do you or does your wife do most of the cooking? If it's your wife, you're very spoiled in a good way!--we always seem to have cold cereal to avoid dishes in the morning. I'll have to rethink that.....
Deb B Hey Deb. Eva and I work together for most meals. When we cook on the campfire, I focus on the wood splitting and heat level. She chops most of the meat and vegetables. I usually cook breakfast and she usually takes charge of the evening meal. Last weekend, she cooked a Mexican vegetable chicken stew and pinto beans over the campfire tHat was wonderful. Another day, I made macaroni and cheese. After the meal, Eva usually washes and rinses the dishes and I dry them and put them away. Thanks for watching and asking the question. Hope to hear from you again soon.
This is a Marmot Limestone 6 and it is great for hot summer weather. After this photo we started using an Eureka Copper Canyon LX8 and like it better because it holds in heat better in cool weather and is much more spacious. Recently, we downgraded to a LX6 because it is plenty roomy and is easier to pack and set up. Thanks for watching and sending this question.
