@@tsfbaf303 because it isn't really about that. They tell the same stories on every show. He wouldn't let them go into rehearsed stuff. He just wanted to have fun.
Craig is always so meta. His self awareness and clear understanding of the absurdities of the talk show format, and then turning it on its head, make him so entertaining to watch.
@@wolfm8097 Conan was always kind of lame, he was just better than fallon and colbert and the other hacks, which isn't saying much. Norm Macdonald and Craig Ferguson should both have their own shows, any kind of show they want to make without oversight and direction from above. In a sane a just world sure, but they are both gentiles so it's a no-no in hollywood.
@@wolfm8097 I obviously don't know early Conan, l like him but l wouldn't even consider him to be on the same level as Ferguson, whom is not just charming and handsome, he's witty as hell and can make any guest come out of their shell. Especially the lovely ladies.....just my opinion. l miss him.
This is one of those times when the title of the video is not misleading. She was a fantastic guest. I really miss this guy. A talk show: we're all sitting around watching other people have a conversation right? What an absurd idea. It's almost stupid on its surface. It, in fact, IS stupid when it follows this horribly formulaic and forced mold as so many do. Not Craig's show. You really are watching a conversation, and it's fantastic because he's so incredibly funny, genuine, and has this amazing talent to bring out the most likable side in his guests. The best in my book.
Alex Baum Completely agree. I like Conan but the way he just asks set up questions to comics feels so forced and he's been a talk show host longer than anyone in America right now.
Guys, if you like Tina as an SNL actress, maybe you like Kristen Wiig’s art and remember the adorable Dooneese character. I have prepared a video with a very rare episode of the show. Thank you!
Alex Baum Pat Tanackered Agree with both of you. I SO miss the conversational aspects he brought. Some of the best appearances, they'd talk for most of the episode and barely even mention whatever that person was there to plug. I always felt like you really got to see the guests true personality, versus their stage persona. There were a few where I was like, they need to just keep going and make it a two parter or something haha. I like Conan. He's the only other late show that I watch consistently, but there are definitely times when you can tell it's the old formula "question/answer/question/answer/etc." I swear sometimes it seems like he isn't even listening because he'll barely let the guest finish an answer before going onto the next question/comment. Regardless of how nice he was about it, Fallon is BY FAR the worst late night host (of the major shows) in my lifetime.
Tina Fey was fine. She always is. She's a uniquely talented funny person. But Craig is why this works. He really brought it, not so much as an interviewer, but as a host. He genuinely made Tina laugh with some great jokes a comedy writer could appreciate
There is a small detail in this interview that I love. At 5:00 Craig makes a joke. Then at 5:13 responds with her own variation. She starts the joke and he finishes it. It is cool that they both thought of the same joke at the same time. I love how really funny people can do that. They riff with each other like musicians. This was the best talk show of all time.
@@alfonso7854 They are talking about having children so Craig says 'there is a lot of sick on me (vomit), and then there is the baby' the joke being that he is puking all over himself, then Tina says there has been a lot of 'bum whipping, and then there is the baby' the joke being that she is shitting herself. The jokes are kind of gross, but, I love how they both at the same time say 'and then there is the baby' it shows how comedians have a kind of instinct. They both noticed the opportunity to repeat Craig's joke and did it at the same time. I really loved this show.
I thought no guest could be better than Sandra Bullock, until I watched Tina Fey. She is smart, funny, cute, and you could tell Craig has immense respect for her. Makes me miss this show so much. Craig was the best interviewer I've ever seen.
they have such a similar brand of comedy and really good chemistry because theyre both so weird and so open to general awkward bizarre weirdness. i would love to see them collaborate on something regularly like a tv series.
Completely agree about the ideal guest. It's really a shame she wasn't on more often. This is almost like an improv scene about a talk show. Such fluid and natural chemistry between them.
You can feel the electricity on the air. Those two are quick, smart and funny as hell. It's like a watching a heavyweigth fight of two world champions of comedy. It's a shame it was her only appearance on this show.
Am I the only one who thinks that there are many guests who actually match his style ? ( Lindsay Sloane, Diane Kruger, Sarah Paulson, Robin Williams, Evangeline Lilly, Thomas Lennon , Brie Larson, Sandra Bullock, kat Dennings- and these are just off the top of my head)
Tina is one of the best guests and interviews Craig Ferguson ever had. She looked like she was having a blast. I'd also love to hear her reminisce about her appearance to know what was really going thru her mind.
Eightball took the words right out of my mouth, watch the dance scene with amy in the movie " sisters " and it's written all over her face : she knows she's got it goin on BIG TIME
bby nuck yeah, that's what made Liz Lemon's CONSTANT relationship struggles on 30 Rock SO funny. IRL Tina has been married for a while now and has a couple of kids, but she was smart enough to realize it would be WAY funnier if Liz's personal life was a disaster zone, particularly in the romance department.
Sad but true. I never knew Craig did this show until it popped up on my YT suggestion list. What a host! Seamless interaction with guests. Knows his stuff and gives it all to the guest. You guys on the other side of the pond have some awesome late night chat shows.
You guys gotta get a grip, or meet more women. Funny, smart, women cone in all shapes and sizes. It's unfortunate that today in show biz women too often have to appear at least generically attractive in order to be recognized for their talents. Men, especially in comedy can still be very physically imperfect. I remember when Tina first came on the scene and she was quite ordinary looking. She now has perfected her looks, and I'm sure the pressure to look "sexy" is still with her. Sad what they do to women.
She was one of THE best guests on the show; their chemistry was unbelievable; both uber talented comedians who had me smiling or laughing the whole time.
I also thought Tina Fey seemed very subdued in this interview with Craig. I found an interview with David Letterman around the same time and also about same book, and she seems more engaged here than with Craig. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TluDNUGhWFc.html
I Really Miss This Guy!!! I wish he would come back on to host another show like this. He was such a hoot to watch and listen to during his interviews. We Miss Ya Craig Ferguson!!! Come Back!!
Carrie Fisher is even funnier than Craig, imo. She's over the top funny and gets Craig in the vulnerable position for a change. Love her visits to the show. If you want to really laugh, check her out on the show
The repartee between these two is fantastic! Producers could have easily created a limited run show featuring Tina and Craig as primary characters. There was no better guest; there was no better interviewer.
JLF, your CF & the ladies videos are all top notch. Craig was the best late night host hands down. I'm old enough to have seen them all. Carson was great, but Craig is far more versatile. Those early cold openings and puppet bits were genius. They STILL make me laugh. He was a better interviewer, too. Craig is a genuinely nice person. Carson was anything but. Thanks for saving these. Being a film editor I know how hard you work to sequence, cut, mix and transition these pieces. Much respect. You do great work.
Thank you Jess sir! And especially thanks for recognizing the small effort that goes into it. Craig is truly one of a kind, he made late night talk shows some entirely different, more enjoyable for a wider audience. The puppets, you're going to love my cold open musical bits compilation which is coming up in few hours. Enjoy bro!
The JayLeno Fly That's awesome regarding the cold opening bits. My 2 favs are Oops, I Did It Again and the one with Kristen Bell. Wish someone at ABC would wake up and replace Kelly Ripa with KB. She's MUCH funnier and WAY less neurotic. KR hit the wall 5 years ago. lol Anyway, keep up the stellar work.
So, your videos have become my guilty pleasure ... on so many levels, these are just a blast. But this one was my favorite. Tina is just so damn funny, and easy to watch. LOVED the ending. Thanks!
