The last pic of the segment is her flipping her hair which I LOVE. ❤ before I knew the concept of "what I want to be when I grow up", I knew I was going to somehow become Tina.
Valerie Simpson is the vocal goat that absolutely needs her followers she's been in the game for years, hits after hits and great writer. Come on Valerue sing Sis.
Say it again Queen! I was a youngsta and Valerie and Nicholas were big way back when. I appreciate my foster sister and brother for bringing such music royalty into my life.
I can’t help but cry when Valerie started to sing. And then that shot of Nick crying in Sydney Poitier’s arms just has me ugly crying. Surely both Valerie and Nick had to know that Nick was ill. It gets to me every time. It’s sad that there does not seem to be an effort to keep that energy alive and productive, but I am glad that God led Oprah to do that.
I REWINDED HER SINGING PART LIKE 50 TIMES ALREADY!!! LOL.... NOOOOOOBODY SHUTS DOWN A SHOW LIKE PATTI!!!! 😫😫😫👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 She Even Out Did The GREAT SHIRLEY CEASAR!!! Now THAT Is SAAAAANGIN' Right THERE!!! 👀☝🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I watched this for the zillionth time in 2023 and I still cry at the beauty of this Legends Ball. They all received their flowers while they were alive to smell them and enjoy them. Every time I rewatch this, I get chills and cry because so many of the Legends featured are no longer with us. God bless you Oprah for following Gods instructions on how to properly thank these women for their contributions. I will cherish this Legends Ball dvd now and forever! In loving memory of the beautiful Legends who left us!
Patti took that microphone 🎤 and I swear she got wings and took off and flew! She is a closer! She will tear down any stage piece by piece! Word by word! Then after...it's done. Just with that little part she sung on here, it was peer perfection! There's no words for what she does!
EVERY time I watch this part right here I think how I can walk better, talk better, handle myself better in the name of Jesus I wont ever be the same . and I need to see this everyday when I go thru something that may throw me out of character I come back to this
The Justice League of Gospel Music! "Change" ft Shirley Caesar, Dionne Warwick, Yolanda Adams, Chaka Khan, Gladys Knight, Valerie Simpson, Patti Labelle. What a roster!
It’s 2023 and this is still a moment in time when the Holy Spirit moved in the atmosphere. Praise God. RIP to Cicely Tyson, Sidney Poitier, Maya Angelou, Nick Ashford, Tina Turner, Penny Marshall, Della Reese. Natalie Cole, Coretta King, Diahann Carroll🙏🏾✝️🙏🏾✝️
Seeing Cicely Tyson in the background getting her life while Patti had the mic was just an emotional moment. All these legends who have lived and shaped the history of this country through the arts
@@Thisisyourconfirmation that was not Oprah in the red first row. Don't try to come for people and you don't know what you're talking about. It was clearly Mrs Tyson
When Patti took that mic, tossed that paper in the air and it nearly hit that guy behind her = Iconic! Oprah needs to release the full unedited performance!
That spirit got ahold of Patti!!! I feel like the paper tossed in the air is not talked about enough. The paper was gone and she was still throwing it 😂😂
My wife is passed and an resting in the arms of my beloved God. But she shared with me the emotional and spiritual richness she felt when she watched Oprah's Legend's Ball. I am just now watching the clips on youtube and tears are flowing uncontrolably down my face. Chills are all over me every single place. I'm moved from within myself to just set here and watch this defining moment in history. There is no way one can really put into words the awesome and profound feeling and gratefulness one feels after seeing something so profound as this. The legend's she honored are legend's in deed. The extremly rich and fruitful heritage of women she honored was just breath taking. And I can only imagine how it couldn't have seemed reality for the yungunnn's.
I am so very sorry to hear about your loss. It's never easy to lose someone that we love. I couldn't have said it better. Everything that you said, I thought. And though I didn't weep, I sure felt like it. [ But the evening is young] I got touched and moved on all of it. At the risk of sounding like I've got little else to do, I sat though all of them. All of them! Tina turner- 70, the works and I loved them all. This has been a great day!
Gladys is sooooo distinct with her vocal ability.....and when Patti stood up and threw that itinerary, I said "WE HAVE LIFT OFF"!! PATTI, PATTI, PATTI!!!
This was an unforgettable event that captured the essence of black culture and gospel music. The event was so powerful that Diane Sawyer declared it the most spiritually transcending moment she ever been apart of. Momentous occasion that brought together some of the most influential African Americans in history. The performances were truly inspirational and uplifting with each artist bringing their own unique style and energy. The combination of gospel music, soulful vocals and uplifting lyrics created an atmosphere that was both emotional and spiritual.
RIP Queen of Rock, Tina Turner 2023. I have just realized, that all the women mentors I found in my adult life, are black women ... ALL of you Rock, thanks for the guidance and strength you shared (with no apology) to all women with an open heart ... this sent chills through my spine, especially seeing Tina and Maya Angelou, and not to forget Sidney Poitier xxx
Valerie killed it also. "From this day, we won't walk the same. We gone walk taller. We gone think higher. We're gone be better. Yeah, yeah, yeah... love it
Patti LABELLE was in her 60’s during this event and was still able to show everyone what a blessed by GOD FORCE OF NATURE she is. These vocals will never be matched or seen again, what’s for you is for you. Patti thank you for blessing us with your Gift! The best that EVER did it!!!
It’s also for the way Rudy Dee sits up in her seat when Patti starts to sing. How Oprah turns around, with amaze and shock on her face, and how Cicely Tyson is on her feet in total joy and praise.
The fact that Oprah had EVERY SINGLE legend in this event is UNBELIEVABLE ‼️🙌🏽🙌🏽💯❤️ Patti really showed off; Shirley Caesar too. You know it's real when the holy spirit knocks your hair loose.
It's 2023, Black History Month and I'm still watching this video! It's so anointed, and such a blessing! However, so many that was part of this is now in heaven! Cicely Tyson, Maya Angelo, Coretta Scott King, Nick Ashford, Sidney Poitier, the Hawkins brothers, to name some! The Holy Spirit really moved and it was so beautiful! Thank you Oprah for honoring these beautiful women!
2021 anyone? The lesson- honour your past and the shoulders of the giants you stand on and help others up the ladder by extending the same grace. RiP Cicely Tyson
Yep I'm here too watching it for the billionth time. I can never get tired of this and my reaction is always the same as it was the very first time I saw it.
Yassssss sharing it with my daughter. Get teary eyed because some many of the that attended are no longer with us. Oprah did her thang that time and have them their long over due flowers while they where still here.
And since this amazing event, we’ve had Cicely Tyson, Dr. Angelou, Diahann Carrol, Della Reese, Natalie Cole, Nick Ashford, Dr. Coretta Scott King, Rosa Parks, Ruby Dee, Dorothy Height, Katherine Dunham, and Nancy Wilson have all passed on. So glad to know that they were given their flowers before they did.
Spencer Robinson Loy of these legends are gone to glory now but this was beyond amazing very thoughtful of Oprah putting something so beautiful together . Jesus, is always in the rooms with a full house of us no matter what
When patti grabbed that mic she took me in and str8 to church! There will never be a voice like that and Fantasia definitely gives me patti vibes! I’m touched!
