In this Wing Chun lesson, I’ll detail how to do Ting Yiu and explain why it’s one of most important elements of good form in Wing Chun structure.
.
.
.
Ting Yiu 挺腰is the pelvic tilt and the straightening of the lower back in Wing Chun. As the pelvis tilts in Wing Chun, the lumbar curve straightens.

Sifu, Should a student/person strive to stay in Ting Yiu most of the day or all day? Is it healthy to stay grounded in Ting Yiu all day or constantly put yourself back into Ting Yiu through the day?
@sifuadamwilliss
@sifuadamwilliss Год назад
No. Ting Yiu is not for everyday things like walking or moving around. You should train to know what it feels like to do it and what it feels like to be out of it. There’s is a time for both.

Great video! Can I ask, does having an abnormally curved spine, such as in mild kyphosis or scoliosis, prevent someone from doing this properly? Thank you!
@sifuadamwilliss
@sifuadamwilliss 3 года назад
Thanks Richard. And yes, maybe a little. But its important not to use that as an excuse not to work on this. This is very important for rooting to the ground. In the thousands of students I've taught over the years I haven't met anyone fully incapable of doing Ting Yiu.

How to get contact with popular strike like jab cross and then control, break, hit?
@sifuadamwilliss

Let them come to you. Intercept thru simultaneously striking and defending. Take their center. Don’t give it back.

Sifu,do you have to round the upper back like a lot of hakka arts or the internal martial arts,or do you have to straighten the upper back too?
@sifuadamwilliss
@sifuadamwilliss Год назад
The upper back is straight too.

Sifu Adam. I tried so many times tilting little bit but hurts my lower back. Some wing chun teachers don't follow it because they understand biomechanics. Should I still do the pelvic tilt?
@sifuadamwilliss
@sifuadamwilliss Год назад
The key to grounding is keeping the spine a part of the ground. In order to do that tilting the pelvis is required to an extent. If it hurts your back, you’re most likely tilting too much. This video has tons of great info in it on this. I advise following it to a T. Feel free to ask more questions if needed.

Is there a good way to learn Wing Chun without being able to attend a school under a credited Sifu?

Is it possible to learn Wing Chun alone? I mean like only with a teacher. Not a class. And is it also possible to learn Wing Chun in the Internet? Like online lessons?

There's honest value in online training, that's why I've put so much into my online school... www.dragoninst.com/onlineschool/
