Great vid! Soviets is indeed a fascinating artifact. I actually enjoyed it as a child - I guess I wasn't a casual reader because I loved the series so much and I was excited to acquire this crisp hardcover black and white installment after reading many of the others. It's still quite satisfying and, as you said, charming (i do enjoy it more than Congo). And it's just so silly - the OGPU henchman saying "I'll eat this delicious banana" while plotting Tintin's demise. Then again, it begins with more civilians getting killed(??) than in any other Tintin. Finally, long live Borschitov (oops, looked it up, it's BorsctiSov), the first master criminal to be felled.
I've just started rereading the Tintin books for the first time since I was a kid, starting with this one. It was fascinating just for the interesting place that it holds in the Tintin canon, but as a standalone installment, it's not very good. Lots of wacky fights with generic Soviet henchmen and ridiculous plot elements that never would have been in the later books (the bit with the diving suit was the most absurd thing I've ever seen). Anyway, I still had fun reading it and I look forward to seeing more of this podcast!
hi, i finished Tin tin in the land of the soviets yesterday. I would like to read all the other 22 stories (i already read tt in congo), i think that this one is a good comic book and if you say that it’s one of the worst.. tintin serie will become one of my fav media! 😃
