In this video I fish a new, super small creek that I don't know anything about. Turns out to be an incredible little stream!

Tristan, since strike detection is so important to this style of fishing, have you considered making a video concentrating on the topic? Often I find it very difficult to see the subtle takes. Many videos have the leader and/or line obscured by cluttered backgrounds. Often the lighting is suboptimal to see the line on most hits. On rare occasions, the line stands in bright sunlight, and is highlighted by a dark background, then you can SEE those soft takes! I know it’ll be difficult, but if you ever hit the optimal video conditions, please consider teaching us all about strike detection. Thanks for all the wonderful videos!

That was a beautiful little creek! When I was young I always passed on fishing trips for a bit more adventure. I aways said then, "I'll go fishing when I'm older." Well I'm much older now and your fishing channel has really piqued my interest in tenkara. The techniques are very cool and I love the minimalism of the gear. The creeks you pull fish out of are amazing. I'm really glad you mentioned your fishing channel on SUV RVing! I'm sold!

I don’t know if you read your comments but thank you for showing this rod. I got mine in yesterday and wow this is exactly what I was looking for for these hard to cast north Georgia mountain streams. The finish is a little rough compared to my other rods. But I got the 6:4 and I’m a fast tip person. Like them on my tenkara and standard fly rods. As small as it is it has a nice handle and was not a after thought. This is a great birthday present and can’t wait to use it. I have just the creek to try it out on.

When I was a kid, probably before your parents were born, I would fly fish all over the northern side of the Uinta Mountains. Nice and peaceful back then, not many people would go to the Uintas. I hope you’re not insulted when I say that I kind of enjoy this channel a bit more than your other one. But it’s like comparing dark chocolate to milk chocolate, love them both, just would slightly prefer dark.

I'm heading up into that area soon for some tenkara fishing. I love fishing those lakes, but I haven't tried the rivers and creeks before. The area you're in looks like the upper Provo near the Provo River Falls.

Beautiful location and Brook Trout. If possible you should try to get out to north central PA in the state forests for truly native and beautiful Brook Trout in woodland locations that will take your breath away..

I have done some Tenkara fishing in small creeks and, my experience, the fly type doesn't matter. The fish will go after anything I tie on.

Any tips on bow and arrow casting? Do you hold the hook bend or a few inches up the tippet? Seems like the latter with how quickly you set yourself up without hooking your fingers.

Just today I am rigging up an external battery source for pass through power to my GoPro (which I will mount to the back of my hat believe it or not) because I am tired of switching batteries and batteries failing. Looks like you are using normal battery power - do you have frustrations with it?

No, I don't. I don't mind changing the batteries. I have 7 or 8 of them. Gives me a good excuse to get a drink of water.

Hey I’m in Utah and I’ve recently started Tenkara. I’ve fly fished for a year or two but I have a ton to learn about both. Do you have any area suggestions? You find so many new creeks I’m sure you found the cheat code for them. Any decent area to start with in Utah that won’t steal your honey holes?

Sorry, I can't give out suggestions to people. There are both tenkara and fly fishing groups about fishing in Utah. I'd suggest joining one of those and asking around.

try Utah tight lines or high mountain anglers. Most wont tell you a name of a creek but they will help you get fish by telling you flies to use, times , and general locations, etc... Once you have been there a while you will make some friends and that is how you get the creek names. Its all about trust and exploring. Just like these videos find a blue line on the map grab your rod and check it out.
