I think Gabil is an "oem" mfg for MFJ and Comet. I could be wrong, but Gabil has products very similar, if not identical, to MFJ/Comet but in slightly different packaging, cheaper and "more" selection. (Sometimes you can get 160m version, versus restricted 80m or 40m multiband verticals)

Thanks for the information. It looks like they have left us early adopters in the doghouse on this as I'm not seeing a way to correct the existing sticker problem other than buying the antenna all over again.

Marshall, this antenna has been on the market for years, with the label sold to thousands of people, under 4 different brand names that I am aware of. I'm glad Gabil is finally the one of the four to take it next level...the other three are just staying status quo.

Thanks for the interesting video! In some days, Gabil will also sell a version with a BNC feeder connector (I was asking them for that since some time). About the laser edged label: To me, marking the bands with a pen is very handy to quickly change bands. I guess that my band marks would be less visible on the black anodized surface. But of course, I would apply another marking technique 😉 73 Stephan

@@HOAHamRadio yes, this is the new post I meant! And about the markings: it's not always perfect, but many times, even on different ground, it's good enough. To lower the variation, I recommend to always use the same radials though.

love it, but on amazon to Italy/europe the gabil tripod cost over 250bucks after tax and import duty...

Yikes, that’s a bit much. Gabil has told me they are thinking about Amazon distribution in Europe. I don’t know the business side of that but I did tell them lots of amateur operators would welcome their presence…hopefully they do it.

I bought the 3/4x24 last week and received the old non-laser etched version. According to their Amazon store, the UHF version is laser etched, but the 3/4x24 doesn't say that. Not sure if it's worth sending it back and ordering a new one.

If I'm understanding this right does the tripod now come with both insert mounts? If not they need to clarify that in their Amazon ad. I would buy both inserts and the rest at that price and leave the little tripod in a box. They would fit in the more substantial tripod I already own.

The tripod comes with two posts; the UHF version and the 3/8 x 24. It also comes with screws for attaching radials to both posts. Posts can be purchased separately which may save you a few dollars. Be careful to only buy posts that have the threaded holes for radials. They do have an old version post they are selling out which does not have the radial capability.

A second comment as I don't want any confusion. You need to suggest that they modify their scale to reflect the approximate MegaHertz instead of an arbitrary numeric scale which means nothing without the chart. Setting the coil to 5 on the scale for 14 MegaHertz or the 20 meter band is just plain stupid.

The challenge of marking it with MHz is when someone chooses to put a difference length whip, or add the 80 meter loading coil, the MHz markings become irrelevant...they are forced to use something else so it is always meaningful regardless of the whip length.

@@HOAHamRadio I fail to see how that problem wouldn't be the same for the existing scale. 5 may be good for 20 meters with the included whip but if you put a longer whip on then 5 won't be a good setting for 20 meters. Put a MHz scale on there for the standard included whip. If someone puts a 17' whip on then its their problem.

@@HOAHamRadio that makes sense but I don’t see how their current scheme solves that problem as their chart doesn’t account for other antenna lengths. I’m really trying to understand their logic. Other companies mark frequencies and we know they only apply to o the default setup.

With the weight of the whip and 80 meter coil, does the slider portion stay in position or does gravity tend to collapse he slider?

It has a polymer "nut" at the bottom of the sliding portion you tighten. It will hold the weight of loaded coil and whip for hours, days, weeks...but months? Probably over time with weather conditions, wind, hot / cold variation, it could move. So if you are thinking permanent, you may have to check it occasionally just to be sure.

I like all of these parts except that weak little tripod. Way too little for way too much money. I assume they now sell the inserts separate or should.
