You must also take very good care of yourself! Everyone needs you. Agree some things cannot be trained out of a horse. More of an acceptance of the horse “as is” and moving forward. From a novice but an older man who thinks more about being able to recognize what is reality. Why waste energy spitting into the wind?

We had four contiguous paddocks that made up our pasture area. The back one was for first cutting hay and summer grazing. The other three connected the two barns. The entry to the run ins and the gates in between were always full of muck when it rained. We had to be careful some days that our boots did not get sucked off our feet. I had more than one "muddy" sock over the years. 🤣 Tiny was perfectly happy with the rubber chicken. lol. My cats will make toys out of anything.

Interesting that you say that the horses stay warmer if you brush the mud off, and they can fluff up their coats. I always believed that a good coat of mud stopped the wind.

Just to add to your fan base, happened to show your channel to a couple friends---this 'boring Horse stuff'---both friends are experienced grounds keepers & turf maintenance gurus at our local Muni golf course. They were gobsmacked & agog at the landscape, & different water/ice/drainage scenarios, multiple details & thinking out the sequences you casually identify in short range and long term with the horses as a priority factor. Grass seed took them over the Edge. No clip board, no CADD or 3D models. Both friends are old school experienced & appreciate Real World nitty gritty. Then we looked at video w the early thaw, but paw prints in snow---showing their favorite nemesis: ground dwellers who burrow & surface. A horses who opens a water spout got them. Tiny was star of the shows.

Easy to get 501(c)3 status for free if you find a pro bono lawyer who loves horses & then you’ll be able to raise a lot more cash! I did it then got others to do it too in Vermont ❤️ Ben & Jerry’s as well as The VT Country Store supported us, just stay under the $10000 per annum ceiling to begin!

I know nothing about horses, being a suburbs gal but I have had animals all my life. I am so respectful of the mindful care you give your animals. And you are so knowledgeable and intuitive, you clearly have a special gift. Those who find their way into your care are truly blessed. I may have missed it, but if you haven’t created one yet, a background video of how you got to where you are now would be so interesting. And perhaps instructive to some wanting to learn how to or improve their care. Best wishes going forward.

I know your place is a rental, but can't you implement some elevation based draining there? Like on (european) football fields. They're usually not flat but a little bit "round", so the water automatically drains off to each side of the pitch. It is work upfront yes, but way less work later on. Maybe 1 or 2 days pushing dirt around with semi-heavy machinery and digging some minor water channels on the side of each pen. Your back would love it, I'm sure and it'll be less sisyphus every "melting time" than currently.

Tiny seems like a wonderful feline. Pretty too. Great use of chicken. Love seeing all the horses up close and personal.

I love your videos. Your horses have such great personalities. Tiny is hilarious! I'm battling the mud here in Tennessee and understood how mucky the horses get. I'm brushing them daily and end up covered in hair. lol Mine need baths for sure! You do such a wonderful job keeping your horses happy and healthy.

Some are idiots and some are brilliant, even heros and the criminal minded ie. runners, fence jumpers/breakers Just like people, horses develop their minds to do things their own way unless you can teach them, gently, a better way. You like challenges and your herd shows that. And the success you have with your training. And Tiny is such a character! Your barn would be a lonelier place without her. Another fine video. Pete is a splendid looking horse and Frisco Bill and Skeletor are also very good looking horses - such character in their faces. I do not blame Pete one it about keeping his distance. As for his hiding behind the barn/shed, perhaps that is his idea of "safe-play." Glad to see he took a treat later. I wondered why the mud wouldn't be left on the horses only to hear that manure is mixed in. Am learning a lot watching your videos. I agree with the commentor, velorower, below: we could donate/crowd fund. It does not matter that you are not a government backed channel/rescue, non-profit, etc. We, your viewers, are your supporters. Thank you for another enjoyable video.

This is gonna sound strange - even silly. I use to live in Northern California and learned alot about water management in light of how they do their commercial rice farms, water being an expensive resource. Rice and almond farms are a big deal there. They have huge innerconnected patties, seeded via aircraft, where flow as both hydration and dehydration are required as part of the farming process. The patties are laser leveled to within 1/4 inch to accomplish all that. The tractor goes around the patties with the laser in the center to get their desired slope. I was just imagining how nice it would be for your pastures management if they were laser leveled with a 1/4 inch common slope for both quick common drainage and complete grass hydration for when you're needin' it to grow to feed your herd. Just a thought. Even though you wouldn't need a seed-casting by-plane, you'd probably be the only one in America doin' it as part of comprehensive pasture management for feedin' horses. ❤

Speaking of pulling more horses off the same rangelands as Scarlett, now might be a good time to check. It's gonna be a bad, dry Summer in a lot of places out West in 2024 due to lack of snow/rain in the past 12 months or so.

My goodness, looks like they are really enjoying the mud ! We have a cat very similar looking to tiny, but she thinks she is part dog, and insists on coming on the walk with our 2 dogs.
