Micro Grafting a jaboticaba tree with a razor blade under a microscope. This technique of cleft grafting is to change the variety of tree while utilizing a superior rootstock to improve growth rates and help more sensitive trees to grow on less sensitive rootstocks.

Good video the 50 sabara seeds I got from you a while back all germinated even the extras. You gave me 76 in total 100% germination rate. Seeds were very clean too would love to buy again. Lots of good useful info in these videos for a newbie like me thanks.

Hey, glad they all worked out for you, never know what conditions they go through in transit. Thanks for the kind words, I hope to get bigger crops from my fruiting Sabara and will probably have those available when it does. If I get another batch from my friends trees I will list those. Thanks again!

I have some Sabara seeds again and will have a large supply of seeds in the next week or so.

Thanks for this video, my grafts are finally paying off with my Annonaceae and taking so now I want to start branching off into jaboticabas thanks for the close up shots on the cambium layer so I know what to do. And cool to see to use cleft grafts.

Love the video! Very worth it haha taught me a lot. Btw some of my jabo seeds seems to be germinating two in a pot, I’m thinking of carefully separating them when they’re a little older, is that a good idea? Or just leave it alone

Thank you! Yeah it is common for them to sprout more than one from a seed. Some are easier to separate than others. I would wait till they have at least a few sets of leaves. It isn't the worst thing having multiple trunks since the fruits grow on the trunk. But if you want to separate it, I recommend submerging the root ball in water and see if the soil falls away making it easier to untangle the roots. Keep in mind there is some risk of them getting stressed or killed. Good luck!

How're you preventing fungus on the cuttings?

In the humidity dome? I'm not doing anything. I occasionally will see a mushroom pop up in there. I believe the rooting hormone is supposed to help against fungus.

So Jabo's take to airlayering quite readily? I have a friend who has fruiting trees not far from me. I might ask if I could try it. Great vid buddy.

Jaboticaba is very difficult to air layer. I was doing it since I wanted to prune that branch off anyway since it was growing against another branch. My attempt on video was not successful. It appeared that worms, ants and grubs got into the peat and was eating any roots trying to grow. I set up a a new air layer further up the branch to see if I can salvage the branch. If you can get a jabo rootstock and then graft a branch from your friends fruiting tree. That would be more successful.

hows the air layered jaboticaba doing?

It probably has another month or before I will see if it is working. I don't have much hope and I fear I didn't do it good enough for it to take. I can't see any roots through the clear plastic yet.
