I'm so grateful for my little home in the city! If you're waiting for a sign to move to NYC then this is it, DO IT!! Comment below if you want any further details or links to items!!
You could break the box down and place it under your mattress. I always keep my tv boxes whenever I buy anew one and keep them there that way when I’m moving I have it to pack my tv in. Cool space. Love the closet
Cute apt. Can you slip box under the bed? Maybe you can easily collapse and store as suggested. Good idea under the mattress. Or what about behind clothes in closet.
Breakdown the tv box & put it under the bed . You can still have enough room to store things under bed bc the box wont stick up that high. Also use vinegar & wadded up newspaper to scrub that mirror! It will sparkle !! That tip was given to me long ago by my great grandmother ! Works like a charm
Oh my goodness the RU-vid algorithm is in hyperdrive for me it seems since it keeps blessing me with more recommendations of lovely studio tour videos such as this one! Love watching these videos as I rent my own studio apartment and get so much inspiration from watching these. Time to watch and update this comment with my thoughts on this one. Edit. Oh wow, that's only 300sq ft? That looks bigger than that so kudos to you on how well you decorate your studio. Like space of your bathroom and kitchen ( appliances so new! ) Nice style and thank you for sharing! X
You have a lovely apartment! You could try to thrift some cool fabric and staple, tape or glue that to the tv box and hang it on the wall as a piece of art. The functionality of the box wouldn’t be lost but it would bring you joy instead of annoying you until you need to use it again.
Another idea for your TV box: Cover with contact paper of your choice fitting your decor- it will look like a built-in on the wall- turn the box so the open end is easily accessible and use for storage for large flat items, etc.. Can also drape box with material if contact paper is not an option. You can probably store fold-up chairs in there or folding tables, canvases, pictures, etc.
Beautiful space with terrific bones. I love how you are making it your own. You reminded me of my uni studio apartment and how my sister was amused by my tiny kitchen ( very much like yours) and she bought me a bunch of tiny whisks and spatulas to decorate my 1free wall and she named it “barbie kitchen “. 😍. Enjoy it🙌. Greetings from Cape Breton 🇨🇦
A fellow canadian!! Cape Breton has been on my travel list for years, its beautiful! Hit the nail on the head with the tiny spatulas, they're in the drawer but I'm still browsing for a tiny whisk
Funny you say that I actually have 2 flattened boxes under my mattress lol!! The tv box doesn’t seem simple enough to be broken down and put back together like other boxes :/ I definitely want it to maintain it’s protectiveness
I was about to say the same....I've flattened a similar tv box and it was fine to use again with some strong tape along the corners- all packing boxes start out flat in the first place! However, if you really dont want to flatten it could it go under your bed and be used as storage, if necessary, in the meantime? Anyhoo, I also wanted to say that you've zoned your space really well and shown that you don't have to have a titchy sofa in a studio. Oh and the out-of-control-Alexa was hilarious! 👍😊😂
It seems like your box might go in the closet. It wouldn’t always be in your way, but when it was, easy to slide out and slide back in when you’re done. Then you wouldn’t have to see it all the time. Nice place! Glad you found it. Enjoy!
This is a great use of space and it's pricey but it's the area and I use to live in Chicago so I completely understand and all that matters is you're happy and feel safe.
Perhaps you can store bed linens or clothing in the tv box, and stash it under your bed. Then you can use that box to transport your tv to the next place you move to.
TV box: Cover it with a graphic contact paper and put it behind the TV against the wall. Hide all the cords and cables in the box itself by snaking them thru the bottom flaps. It’ll muffle the sound and improve the acoustics as well.
That is an amazing space...Im moving back to NY next Feb and looking for a studio with plenty of light....I have only have a few personal items so this size of 300sf will be more than fine....right now im in a 440sq and I find it huge 😂....thank you for sharing your comfy space
First of all Anna - I was basically cry-laughing when Alexa wouldn't stop...she was ready to turn up! LOL, omg....Otherwise, nice use of space and I can understand the value in that back facing window so that you have less street noise.
make a faux headboard by covering the tv box with the channels throw or make a giant artwork by covering the tv box with the tiger tapestry and hang it back in the wall behind the bed also can cover and use as a room divider
Omg the fact that ur 5’2” and you can reach the cabinet above the fridge. I mean obviously it’s a sacrifice in fridge space but I actually love that because I’m used to that cabinet being where you put things you barely use and you need a stool to get to.
It's a nice place and a good start. There is lots of potential. As far as the box is concerned maybe a big scarf or table cloth, or cozy shawl could be draped over it. I love the tapestry behind the bed.
RE: The TV Box. Put it under your bed. If you need more clearance you can get yourself a set of bed risers that can raise the bed anywhere from one to as high as 8 inches so that the box can fit underneath.
Unfortunately there’s center posts in my bed frame so it doesn’t go under :( I have utilized that space for storing smaller things. Good idea with the bed risers though!
If that box doesn't fit under the bed. Wrap it in some wrapping paper or fabric and hang it on the wall like it's a work of art above the place in the floor that it's sitting.
Alexa no, hahahaha so good. I love your window desk workspace! So bright. Also not sure if this would work but could you fit the tv box under your bed? Thanks for the tour. Such a cute apt!
Sorry if its been mentioned, but you could break down the box and have it standing behind your headboard and tapestry, no one would ever see it and you wont trip on it under your bed. :) cute place!
Great job on your apartment. I have seen many, many, many NY. Tiny apartments. Yours is Number One. I have way too much stuff, and I love space saving tips.
Wow. My studio in the center of Paris is similarly layed out, basically the same size, and has an elevator. It's 1250 euros. We don't have a concierge or a laundry area. We have our own washers. Anyway, I'm really surprised at the cost disparity! Cute apartment, though, and you've inspired some design ideas for me. Thanks!
Make a cover for the cart in bathroom. Or a cheap shower curtain you can cut down with the holes you either use some hooks or elastic. But I understand, I hate anything near my toilet
Anyone can make a large place look great but it takes creativity to pull off a tiny space. To me a tiny space is more inviting especially if you live alone. As an artist that large bare wall by your sofa needs ART. OTHERWISE YOU DID AN AMAZING JOB
Exactly what I was thinking! I found a small business on Etsy to support and bought an abstract tapestry to fill the space. Warm-nude tones and very minimalistic design, so glad I’m not staring at a void anymore lol
Your apartment is lovely thanks for sharing. Which area of New York is it? I'm relocating to New York soon to build and direct a global miracle healing centre and state of the art animal sanctuary both in Manhattan and East Hampton 🐶🌹👑🐶🌹👑
Hi sorry I just saw this! I believe my dad found it at Bed Bath and Beyond but I actually don’t recommend this lamps because the head don’t hold its position when you adjust it, it just droops back down
I don't know if it's more than anywhere else in the US but generally yes average salaries are higher than other cities in the country to account for the above-average cost of living
Absolutely agree on purchasing; but not throwing out, the TV shipping/moving box. Well, worth the extra (1 time) expense. Do you have an extra afghan, colored sheet or blanket? Leave plane or put your stuffed animal on top. Fake plant(s). Purse display (like art). Nothing that you don't already have or couldn't use again in another place (fake plants). Can't really get the box wet. I feel you on the box!.
Hey Anna! Thanks for showing us your apartment. Unfortunately it was difficult to view your space. It might be helpful if you hold the camera 🎥 while you are recording as oppose to positioning your camera in “one” spot and talking us through what you have. Just a suggestion…
Thanks for the suggestion (and being nice about it)! my place is so narrow at many points I had the tripod pushing the camera flat against the wall to back up enough lol especially for the kitchen
Cute apartment. In the time since you signed your lease rents have continued to decline, similar nice places are ~ $1,500/$1,600. Of course once NYC bounces back from covid there will be steep rent increases. You were not paranoid, probably too many people don’t really look at the building amenities like laundry room, trash, what else is available nearby.
Hopefully the low prices attract a bunch of young people since the elder rich have fled the city! I heard so many horror stories of places looking great online but terrible in person (like missing front doors so anyone could walk in, no gas to the building)
@@annam5733 there will probably never be a shortage of awful building owners and managers in NYC. The bottom feeders waiting to scoop up distressed properties are likely to be worse than the many mom and pop owners they are replacing. With sagging rents I expect more rentals being shabby. Note to renters: make sure your lease contracts have performance requirements for the property - if you don't have it in writing it doesn't matter if they talk to you nicely as they collect your deposit and rent.
Intresting . I live in Henderson Nevada. In an upscale area. Since many people from California have escaped and relocated here we have a housing shortage. Rents have sky rocketed. Even though its covid.
Really?! I never knew that, I would have assumed that such a food-focused culture like france would have massive stoves. This little thing can barely fit my braising pan and cast-iron lol
@@annam5733 Yes I know. In France people like to use gaz stove because they say it's better. Even between induction and gaz they choose gaz which in my mind is crazy.
Unfortunately the bed frame has center posts so it won’t fit (I also use under the bed for storing smaller boxes). I did try the closet back wall but the box is thick enough that it then the hangers don’t fit since it’s a shallow closet. One commenter suggested I collapse it and pin it to the back closet wall but I haven’t tried it yet
@@annam5733 That sounds like a good idea. Also, if that doesn't work, could you flatten the box and then cover it in an extra pretty cloth remnant and hang like a picture? They do that sometimes on the hgtv sell the house shows for inexpensive art.
I sit on the couch and use those little side tables at 1:40 lol! Sometimes I’ll eat at my desk, but I try to use meal times to get away from my desk and work
Did the landlord have income requirements? Im looking for a studio apartment but most places require an income of 40x the rent. How hard is it to find student housing if I’m not currently employed?
My place has a similar income requirement but it’s for either the tenant or their guarantor. Luckily my mom meets the requirement and signed as my guarantor. If you don’t have someone to do that for you then you need to hire a 3rd party to do it. Ik people who have applied with Insurent and The Guarantors. Its crazy how many little details have to go into getting a place here!
No job? No rental. Seriously would you rent to someone who has no job? How are you expecting to pay rent and urilities and everything else needed like food transportation and tuition books ...if your answer is my parents have them rent the place. You can't be on a lease with out income. Its 3x the rent usually. Not 40x .
Also btw have you tried using baking soda and just rubbing it on dry e a paper towel to remove the dirt?? If that doesnt work try spraying vinegar then sprinkling baking soda the. Spray again vinegar...let it bubble. Then scrub away. I've rubbed stubborn grease on the vent hood off with these methods.
You’re actually not the first person who has seen it and thought it was a real dog!! My friends did the same thing when they walked in!! Thanks for the mirror suggestions, I’ll have to sit down and try all the methods
What kind of work do you do? I am trying to rent a $1100/month studio and it isn't nearly as pretty, and it is 25 mins from the city, but I know I will need to look for some better work and I'm only just waitressing and going to school. Are you trying to save for a home or are you happy renting and what kind of work do you do to afford such a gem in new york, if you don't mind the question?
Hi there! I'm a student so I'm relying on loans and then I also nanny part-time to make money for food, MTA fare, etc. The only way I was able to get this apartment is because my parent signed as my guarantor even though I pay for it. I also signed at the peak of the low prices in the covid market crisis so prices are back up since then. TBH I wouldn't spend more than $1000 to live outside the city, that's overpriced. You can find great places in Manhattan in Kips Bay, Murray Hill, Upper East Side (the far east side or the north side), East Village, and FiDi in the $1000-range. Get a roommate and you can pay less than $1000 in manhattan for a decent place. I recommend living in the city because as a waitress you'll make WAY more $$$ here, plus if you live outside of the city then the daily commute will add up and you likely won't have saved much money. Also, from a safety perspective, please don't take the subway late at night alone after a shift. I have friends who have been attacked and followed in the last year, so please find a safe apartment in the city and embrace CitiBikes or walking lol
Well Manhattan is 300x more exciting than st louis believe me. I pay similar i live in fabulous Las Vegas. I was originally from Chicago and rent there was even more. But all exciting places that St louis has nothing like culture theatre museums china town night life restaurants high fashion we have fashion like you couldn't understand. We also have jobs that support the way of life . Its a world you couldn't understand unless you have experienced it. Not saying it is better for everyone. But I grew up in the city and I could never survive without it
@@raquellambropoulos279 Manhattan is bigger so of course. But on a smaller scale, St. Louis still has all of those things. There’s a ton of culture in this city as well.
It is the Vimle Sofa from IKEA in colour Gunnared Beige (which is more like a light pastel grey/beige). Based off of the IKEA website it seems like they may have renamed it to be Finnala (www.ikea.com/us/en/p/finnala-sofa-gunnared-beige-s19319060/)
Hi! This is a really nice apartment! I was wondering what leasing requirements are like if you’re a grad student or do landlords generally work with you if you don’t have proper income since you’re technically still a student?
If you don’t have an income (or if your income is too low) then you have to have a guarantor! I’m fortunate to have my parent sign as mine. Other people also use third-party guarantors, like companies and sometimes universities will sign if they have that service. Even though I pay for everything myself, as soon as I mentioned having my mom guarantee me my landlords did not care about my individual requirements at all. They only cared about my parent’s records. From what I’ve gathered, landlords aren’t lenient on requirements because they want to ensure they get their money, but you can definitely negotiate your rent down and some landlords have lower requirements than others
@@specificsoup yes there's an income requirement for guarantors! Whether it's the same as the renters' or higher than the renters' is up to the landlord/leasing company.
No. You usually need 3x the rent. Especially in covid landlords are not taking chances with tennents who possibly have issues with not being able to pay the rent. They may allow your parents to cosign the lease with u if they are willing to be financially responsible for you if you can't make the rent. But I suggest living in a rental you can afford or stay at home or in the dorms. If you find yourself getting evicted its a fate that will cost you $$ plenty not to mention you will be black balled and won't be able to rent a decent place for a decade. No joke
they were a gift and have no brand name on them so i'm not sure where they came from but I know Lazy One on amazon has similar ones if you search for fleece lined house slippers :) they're heaven
