This is a solo 10 day voyage in an 18 foot "AF4" wood power skiff (homebuilt, designed by Jim Michalak) with a small cabin for sleeping aboard. Micro-cruising British Columbia Canada which includes crossing the Nakwakto Rapids (2nd fastest navigable tidal currents in the world), and exploring the remote and little-visited fjords beyond, including Seymour Inlet, Belize Inlet and Alison Sound. There are spectacular waterfalls, storms endured, and wolves encountered. I hope you enjoy the trip, and if you'd like to be notified of new videos, or show your support for this channel (Water Trails), hit the subscribe button.

I'm so glad I made this video, to remember the sweet wolf serenade.

Awesome adventure! I live in Northwest BC, and I have a dream to do just this sort of adventure exploring the islands around Rupert in just such a microcrusier. Thanks for sharing this inspiration :)

Those islands SW of Rupert are high on my bucket list.

Looked great, the drone adds a lot to the total filming. Jealous of that cabin space. I chuckled when you were eating steak! Well done, friend.

Yep, I'll confess that you've got me addicted to voyage steaks.

I was fascinated by this video. The scenery is wonderful, but the best part was watching you power through rough water. I have been hankering after one of these boats, but could not understand how it would ride through the waves and chop. It looks like you just slow down and the boat handles the waves just fine. Thanks for this revelation, Gerry

I also liked this Michalak design. I was really considering building this one or his Mike's Boat. That sailboat is a huge pram type. 8 foot bench seats.

It's been great for multi-day trips. There's the pram type shown in my Salish 100 vid, it was like a floating living room, very comfortable looking.

Greetings from California, SF Bay. Love your videos, and the new boat. Thank you for sharing. Can you show how and where you keep the fuel tanks and talk about consumption and range in a future video, that would be great to see.
@WaterTrails
@WaterTrails 4 года назад
That's a great idea, I will do it in a future episode. Until then, a general rule of thumb is 1/3rd gallon per hour at 8 kn cruising speed. This entire trip (over 200 miles) used 8 gallons. 18 hp.

@@WaterTrails Wow that is fantastic. I had imagined quite a bit more fuel was needed. It's definitely a nice alternative for your epic journeys, to see as much as possible in a shorter amount of time. I hope your cat is feeling better.

@@Ash-cy7yw Thanks! cat's all better now. The AF4 was the perfect boat for this place.

Another greeting from SF Bay. Sure am enjoying your videos. I know you're roughing it, but I really dig the minimalist approach--makes it seem much more doable than spending years getting a bigger, more expensive boat ready for cruising.
@WaterTrails

@@fiddleswithbikes Thanks! it is much more doable, but I have to confess I'm also prepping for the latter as well.

Now that you know what the time/tide problem was when you took the 15' sailboat, do you think that boat would make it through now? I wonder if my Monty 15 with a 2.5 hp could do it.
@WaterTrails
@WaterTrails 3 года назад
Yes, it's do-able, need to be on-time. There is only a 15 min window to do it with a small motor.

A cheap cabin sailboat, minus mast & swing keel might work.
