Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road,
Healthy, free, the world before me,
The long brown path before me leading wherever I choose.

Henceforth I ask not good-fortune, I myself am good-fortune,
Henceforth I whimper no more, postpone no more, need nothing,
Done with indoor complaints, libraries, querulous criticisms,
Strong and content I travel the open road.

The earth, that is sufficient,
I do not want the constellations any nearer,
I know they are very well where they are,
I know they suffice for those who belong to them.

(Still here I carry my old delicious burdens,
I carry them, men and women, I carry them with me wherever I go,
I swear it is impossible for me to get rid of them,
I am fill’d with them, and I will fill them in return.)

My old stomping grounds. Lived on Fox Island for 24 yrs...boat was over at Foss Harbour Marina. Moved to Mexico in 2018...230 days of sun/yr. Loved my times in the San Juans/ Gulf Islands. Thanks for the memories.

The dry climate must be a huge plus ! Although Fox island would be a great place to live.

A 10/10 yacht! Beautiful joinery, you can hear the drumlike thump as you close hatches and doors. Small point of contention, I think your portholes might be bronze not brass lol!

Yep, bronze. Thanks for noticing the beauty.

Everything in the boat is ship shape, the green patina on bronze is beautiful, and I know if it was brass, you'd have it polished. ...a compliment to your seamanship!

I know exactly where this is at. Only reason I wouldn’t buy is that it’s a tiller boat. I prefer wheel.

FYI: Logged hours used on the engine since the hours meter stopped, and added it to the hours meter. I let the new engine hours meter run continuously until it reached the point it should be. I was living aboard and heard that meter clicking away 24 hours per day 7 days per week !!!

For the cost of maintaining that boat in pristine condition well you may as well buy a 40 footer

Unfortunately, Yanmar marine engines no longer come with "Levers", that prop the exhaust valves open. "That's ok, we aren't really set up to hand crank it", people will reply. That's not the point. Those levers will save the day when the batteries are too low to crank it over. Just set the levers, get it spinning with the now useable starter, and she'll fire right up. No need to flip the levers back into place, they will probably do that on their own! The other thing, especially with the 28's, is how "tippy" she is. That's the easiest thing in the world to fix: just load her up, fill the tanks, and/or add some lead ingots (internal ballast)to the bilge. In other words, sink her to her "lines", even a bit beyond if you like. Make sure the toilet bowl rim stays above the new waterline. She'll be all you ever hoped, stiff as a church. Sorry if I sound opinionated, trying to show you what a great boat she can be. She looks a little corky to me in the video. Thank you.
@WaterTrails
@WaterTrails 8 месяцев назад
The lever isn't a yanmar part, just a generic 10 ft cable I installed myself. The Ballast/Displacement ratio is 38.71, which makes her stiffer than the usual for a pocket cruiser.

Very nice boat and good review. I always appreciate hearing what the headroom is. Sailboatdata lists it as 6.17, which computes to a hair over 6'2". Is that right or is it as you say 6'1"? Defintely a fan of Shannon here.
@WaterTrails
@WaterTrails 8 месяцев назад
I accounted for light fixtures, etc. I think if one were over 6'1", they'd have to duck to miss some things.

I have a trailer lined up to borrow. I'm in Pend Oreille lake so I have to wait for the lake level to go up before I can get It on. But I did quite a bit of kayaking around the sound and San Juans. @@WaterTrails

Very enjoyable video, it reminds me greatly of New Zealand apart from the New Zealands forestation is much more prehistoric looking. I'd love to hear more about your boat and how it performs as I have a Shannon 28 hull #24 I'm giving a refit here in Florida after downsizing from a 42ft yawl, feeling the need to go smaller as I'm advancing in years .I haven't actually really sailed my Shannon yet only a short hop up the coast.keep the video coming.. cheers.

How are you liking your Shannon?
@jayg.2453
@jayg.2453 10 месяцев назад
How does your Shannon sail? I mean, I know it’s not a racer style hull but I’ve read that you need at least a 12 - 15 knot wind to get it going. Fast or not I fell in love with the Shannon 28. Beautiful boat. Good luck in your sailing adventures. And is the craftsmanship as good as they say.😊
@WaterTrails
@WaterTrails 10 месяцев назад
I classify this boat as a fast cruiser. It does well in light winds as well, at 15 knots it's time to rollup the Genoa and hoist the Cutter. The hull is well designed, it's similar to a Pacific Seacraft 31, but sized down.
