The coral mushrooms that you found are an edible coral mushroom species called Crown-Tipped Coral Mushrooms. They tend to grow directly on dead wood, especially aspen, oak, poplar and willow trees. They are edible and have an earthy, mild, woodsy flavor with a slight peppery aftertaste, but with a word of caution. They can cause gastrointestinal upset in some people, but not often. When trying them for the first time, eat just a little and see how your stomach reacts. There are only two colors of Coral Mushrooms that are edible. Tan, and White. The toxic look-a-likes are bright orange and purple. DO NOT TOUCH THEM! I REPEAT: DO NOT TOUCH THEM! They are HIGHLY poisonous. But, when picking the edible Crown-Tipped Coral Mushrooms, I suggest picking the whitest ones possible because they do brown very quickly once you pick them. I mean, if you enjoy mushy mushrooms, then go for it! I hope this helps!

That person, Aron's fishing technic is just like south asian, In Bangladesh we catch fish like that and the fishing rod is call "Borshi" in Bangla, and we used to make this rod using thin bamboo and nylon thread. Good to see people from abroad using our traditional fish catching technic

I live in the mountains of Southwest Virginia. I love going up the small creeks in these mountains. A ten inch trout is a monster when you fish these tiny creeks. Now these creeks will have some deep pools ever now n then. You have to hunt these fish as well as fish for them . You have to step soft and easy. You must make sure you don't cast a shadow on the water. These fish are used to small animals trying to catch them. Most of the time it's ruff going. Laurels are thick and hard to move in. I go up the mountains sometimes and drop off a ridge and hit the top of the creeks. At the top of these creeks you will catch what we call " Mountain trout" .they really are Brook trout .when you get down low where these little creeks are about to hit the bigger creeks you will start catching rainbow or brown trout. These are the offspring of stocked trout that are put in the bigger trout.its some of the best fishing times I ever had. But beware you will run into things that could hurt you. Bears . Cats and even wild dogs. So have something to protect yourself

When I was a kid we fished like that. Only our streams were very narrow but deep. We where taught to sneak up on the stream very slowly and quietly. Without looking over the edge we would then slowly lower a leaf worm on a small hook into the water. The instant the worm touched the water....it was fish on. It was like hunting fish. Those were great days in Wanakena NY.

When I go Creek fishing in the mountains I generally don't bring a fishing pole just some string a small hook find a nice 5 ft stick, tie a hook to about 10 ft of line.... Then I find some worms and hike up above the pool and throw it in the creek and let it float down the little waterfalls into the little nicks and crannies underneath the logs and behind the rocks

The old mountain people used a fly rod ,like a cane pole. Tiny streams are my favorite places to fish. The first trout I ever caught was a little speckled trout, in the Smokies. Above 4000 ft. I have found many bees, mostly yellow jackets in trout. Those panther martins are very good. Black or brown rooter tails are also excellent. It is much better to never touch a trout you are putting back. Use pliers, hold eye of hook and flick it off over the water. Anyway, great video!

Did you guys happen to notice that fish caught at the 25:35 mark was a tagged fish? When you catch a tagged fish you're supposed to read the info on the tag and report to the local DNR/Conservation Officer where and when you caught it, along with it's size. Helps them with population info and growth rates. BTW, that fly fishing line is braided in the same fashion as a traditional bull whip. It's braided in a series called "plaits". Those are NOT old puffballs. They're actually a species know as "Pigskin" puffballs. And they are toxic. And the "coral" mushrooms are actually edible. And yes, those are/WERE good ones that you tossed away. Except for "Yellow Tipped" and "Jellied Based" corals. and by far the best book I know of and own(and I own many)is the National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Mushrooms. It actually teaches yoou how to identify mushrooms and their characteristics. BEST mushroom book I own and know of. And words of wisdom...If eggs float in water...they're way beyond their "best by" date and you shouldn't 't eat them. Word to Aaron...Stick with the Kikoman soy sauce and start making your own Chili oil. FAR better than those lousy store bought sauces.

Nice video guys. Remember being as young as ten crawling through laurel thickets up small streams catching those natives. No trail beside some of the streams we use to fish. What I wouldn't give for one more time with my brother catching and eating a few of those fish. We did this 50 years ago my relatives 50 years before that. As long as people do like these guys and keep only what they need and the larger fish 50 years from now people will still be catching those "mountain trout" as we use to call them.

Cut chanterelles at the base when harvesting. It leaves everything intact underground so it will keep growing. You’ll end up cutting that part off when you prep them to eat anyway.
@carvedwood1953
@carvedwood1953 2 года назад
Good advice since it keeps your harvest clean, but it does nothing to help the mushrooms keep growing. Mycelium is a huge underground mass. Picking mushrooms without a knife has no effect on the overall growth of the species.
