You should begin the tutorial with no animation done. I don't know how to set up a plane field or time so this tutorial is useless to me despite it showing the exact end goal that I have.
thanks for the tip.. it's cool, but kind complicated setup for such a simple effect, I still can't really understand the fields setups.. effectors were pretty easier to understand
Think of them as effectors stacked over each other, occasionally with transfer modes, like in Photoshop. Super useful. Check the various intro to Fields tutorials that were doing the rounds for R20.
