Ahoy mateys, if the wall be overcut, the biller can kiss your butt! As far as repairs:
Option 1: you can correct the wall with some DRYDEX from DAP - build up the material around hole and let it harden. sand as needed then you plate should cover the rest but perhaps a touch up of paint may be needed.
Option 2: Jumbo plates from leviton can cover overcuts that are fractions of an inch beyond the plate and not worth more trauma to your walls.
