I really don't understand the tipping no matter what kind of service you received. If you had bad service, why would you tip? Tipping culture in America is out of control.
@Kenichi2566
@Kenichi2566 7 месяцев назад
To understanding tipping in America, you have to look at the American economic system in general. I don’t know what country you’re from but healthcare is not only not free, but service industry workers do not have any benefits at all. They are severely underpaid, overworked and they live off those tips. I do agree that some people don’t deserve a tip but even so if you’re in America you should always tip (even if it’s 2-3 dollars for poor service) It would be better to talk about creating real change in America for service industry workers then to just “not tip” because the culture doesn’t make sense to you. Just saying, no hate.

Tipping when it is included, sets the standard and the service suffers when ppl do not tip. When spending 10K+ for a vacation, tipping should to be included.

Yes it is out of control, and it is because of people like you that tip and tip way too much. Visitors from Europe and other areas don't get the same level of attention that Americans get because tipping isn't something we do or know. So Americans go and start throwing money around, which ruins the experience for others.

So agree with everything you said. If we're getting great, personalized service, we tip more!! Not that much out of pocket for a group of people. But it sure adds up for them. Our last group trip in Mexico our swim up pool server remembered a member of our groups birthday and had cake, fruit and champagne sent over on her birthday even though he wasn't working that day. That's great service!!! We appreciated it and showed him the next day he was working.

We always tip in USD, and we are Canadians :). We take with us, 1's, & 5's. We already have our USD for our trip in January. We usually tip 1 per drink, and 2-5 for Breakfast, Dinner & Supper. We always tip house keeping about 5 per day. We find all staff in Mexico and Dominican are very thankful for tips.

This is the second video I’ve watched where people have commented “if you can’t afford to tip stay home.” How incredibly dramatic, pretentious, and presumptive. Get over yourselves. Seriously obnoxious. We are generous tippers both at home and while traveling because we can afford to do so. A lot of Americans are barely making ends meet while working their tails off for a broken system and usually too sick to enjoy retirement by the time they get there. Take the vacation, enjoy your time, you get one life. Pay no attention to the entitled people.

We tip all the time, we only go to 5-Star All Inclusive's (Excellence or Secrets), the employees do not much money per month. We always tip while we watch others that don't..........we have always said , "Let your conscience be your guide", it's simple to reward great service. And trust me, the resort we go to (two weeks at a time) are really expensive, so tipping has nothing to do with All Inclusive............it has to do with you.

I'm Canadian. As you said, if I give them Canadian money, they will accept it, but it's more trouble for them to change it. So, before leaving home I go to exchange some local currency, if I don't take local currency, I will exchange Canadian $ for US $ to save them some troubles. One time, in Jamaica, I brought local currency, but the bills that the exchange gave me were big amount (about 20 to 30$) so I had problem to get change on the resort, their tip jars where full of US $ but no local currency! So, I guess it's depends where you go and if you plan to go out of the resort (I didn't on that trip, I just wanted to relax) where it will be easier to find change in a store. For the amount, I usually give 5$ each day for room service, 5$ for "À la carte" restaurants and one or two for the buffet. For drinks, I usually go to the bar myself so I think that 1$ every 2 drinks is Ok. If I order a more complex drink, I will leave a bit more. That is a general rule o thumb, but If I get an exceptional service, I give more. Also, don't forget that usually in Canada, we tip a bit less than in USA, a tip of 10% is the minimum, 15% is normal and 18% is a good tip, 20% is for an excellent service.

Tips are a pain. When I am at home I only tip when I eat at a sit down restaurant, not fast food. And the amount is dependent on service 10 - 20 percent. Even in other countries and I have been to 29 different countries and lived in Costa Rica 4 years. Tipping there also depending on service. Ron USCG RET

I agree with you whole heartedly about tipping. We visit the Dominican Republic every year for 25 years now and 20 years ago we found heaven on earth. Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus, we are American so tipping is a way of life. I did some research on standard cost of living and found that items like paper goods, toothpaste ect. cost the same there but they are only paid 20% 0f what we make so they need and appreciate tips. At our resort wheather you tip or not you get the exact same service, I've watched. the one thing we do that I believe is unique is we also tip the gardeners. They keep the place beautiful and are usually ignored. I;m proud of this practice. I challenge everyone to tip a gardener next trip. If the smile you get doesn't melt your heart you haven't one. Happy travels and remember to be kind.
@3Days3Noches

Keep in mind that the morning housekeeping people and the turndown housekeeping people are most likely different people working different shifts. Also, the person restocking your mini bar is not always housekeeping. So, all that in mind, I tip $5 in the morning and $5 at night for housekeeping and I put a few bucks in the fridge with a note for the person restocking. Another thing that I do is I save tip money throughout the year. I currently have $100 set aside for my trip in December. If you do it little by little, it doesn't seem as daunting.

I get it in the U.S tipping is getting way out of hand, they even want a tip for swiping your debit card. But when I go to Vacation I like tipping, because I feel like in the long run you’ll have a better vacation, and you will have better perks than the people that don’t. For example this last vacation to Cancun the waiters and bartender treated me like royalty, they even got me those $250 daybeds for free, that’s up course if they were available, which most of the time they were.

Just back from Excellence Punta Cana, probably tipped too much, but at this high end resort felt singles were too little, we tipped $5, mostly drinks, breakfast and lunch, $10 for dinner service. $20 for the driver to the resort and another $20 back to the airport, $5 day for cleaning service. So we spent roughly over the 7 day period approximately $400. Somewhat higher than we originally planned, singles wouldn't have worked at this resort.

These people are taking care of you every day for your stay. If you want to build a positive relationship with these people and treat them with respect. Tip. Just have lots of 1s and give a couple dolars to the bartender or a few dolars to the roomserivce guy or maid. And hey mabey youll find some nice stuff in your room or and extra shot of topshelf booze in your drink. But thats not the point. The point is building the relationship.

I found that different hotels had different policy's towards tipping, last year I stayed at Grand Coba where if you didn't tip you wouldn't get served, that's sitting in the lobby bar. In Riu Lupita where I stayed in June of this year, they didn't expect tips at all and here I did tip as I wasn't pressured into doing so. I am happy to tip but not when forced to.

I travel to Mexico frequently and understand that these workers depend on our tip money to support their families. I don't try to pressure others to tip, but I do say that bringing coloring books, dollar store items or chocolates isn't best. 3 Days 3 Noches is an advocate for service workers and tipping so I have to temper her suggestions about tipping. I was at all-inclusive in Cancun this summer. I saw that the majority of diners did not tip. There were more tipping at the adult-only pool bars. I tipped using 3 Days 3 Noches guide along with a few other guides from content creators. I think I over tipped at the beginning of our stay and then later took it down a notch. I am smarter now about tipping in Cancun all-inclusive resorts and I hoped I found a sweet spot. Note: for the pool bars, if you have a waiter and especially the same waiter for most of the day and your stay, tip the waiter. You will have a friend all day and during your stay. And you don't need to tip a lot of dollars.....unless you are an advocate 😊

@jaypaladin-havesmartswilll5508

This is for a couple: I tip a dollar per drink if I am not going to stay in that area. At the pool: if I have pool seating at the start of the day with a waiter for most of the day, I tip the waiter $10 at the start if I am going to be there for hours. If I am going directly to the pool bar, I tip $1 per drink and if it is made well, I do $2 for the 2nd round and then I tip every 2 or 3 rounds $1per. If you find a main pool bartender for yourself then tip the person $5 at the beginning, but when it gets very busy its hard to get the same bartender unless you are willing to wait. At the restaurants, sit downs I tip $5 for the waiter; for buffet $1 per omelet and $1 or $2 for table bus person and room service $3-$5 depending on how much food I order. I tip room maid $3 everyday and last day $5-$10 @@SoFloGal12

Great video with good tips and explanations. We have been to cancun 7 times and have only had one bad experience with a tip. We left the waiter a two dollar tip and as we walked away, he started to complain about the tip. It makes your tip feel unappreciated.

Hello ! I had a question to ask about tipping in pesos. I went to my bank to exchange my CAD money to pesos and wasn’t given a great range of bills. I mostly wanted 20’s for tipping. Anyway, where would be the best to break down the larger bills ? Airport ? Resort front desk ? Thanks !

@@3Days3Nochesyeah, I’m not sure, my friends sister works for them, weddings etc and she said the same thing about tipping. We’re used to leaving tips, I asked a few of the workers and they said of course we take tips lol service wasn’t horrible but you could tell it was on their time and they weren’t in a rush to help everyone. We figured a few tips might help with service and it unfortunately didn’t get any better. Lol Appreciate your videos!

This is a great video. I love it so much it’s very very well said. We just got back from the sanctuary. And yes it was a pain in the butt because we’re used to staying at sandals where we can’t tip but I had purchased a phone case for my phone that was waterproof, so I just shoved it in there. I also tip the housekeeping, pretty much all of the amounts that you discussed is how we tip with the exception of our Butler we tipped at the beginning and then at the end very little because he was absent the entire stay. But I agree with this information 100% and, it’s great that you are educating people.
@ginabeebe7060
@ginabeebe7060 Год назад
And we also brought 100 $1 bills , 100.00 in $5, 100.00 in $10 and 100.00 in 20.00 just so we have plenty available to tip accordingly based on regular or exceptional service.

The resort is gorgeous!!! loved our room we stayed in the castle honeymoon suite (3046) and it was divine!! It is 100% a mellow resort and that is what we were looking for. In comparison to Sandals we felt the buffet was lacking and the food at the other restaurants were just not as good. It was still good just not "as good" as what we are used to. Our butler was missing the whole time which was disappointing, but the resort by far was one of our favorites as far as the friendliness of the staff and the room view and private pool was incredible (we usually have swim ups so this was a little different with the pool).@@3Days3Noches

For all inclusive… We usually tip $5 dollars a day for the Housekeeping staff, and leave a note…Wait Staff, don’t forget the bus person or server assistant (he or she usually brings the bread and water service) is typically $5 to $10…drinks should be $1 or $2 depending on the quality of the alcohol or spirit…taxi or Uber is 20%. Bellmen or Valet $5-$10. My opinion on gratuity or tipping is…Tip or stay home…🤙

This was a great video. Here are my thoughts. I probably commented on your other video if I saw it but I'll do it now anyway. This tipping thing is a pet peeve with me. The people who work these resorts make NOTHING!!! I'm coming from America. They look at us as being rich. We are coming there to have a great time. To me personally I would feel awful if I didn't show kindness to these people. If they are having a good time there I have a much better chance of being treated well and having a good time. Follow people! I'm a single man. I usually take about $150 in singles and fives for a 1 week all-inclusive trip. The MOST important person you need to take care of is your HOUSKEEPER. That is the one person who can make all the difference in your stay. I usually tip about $5 a day. I write a little note each day just because I'm a human being and so are they. Something simple like "Happy beautiful Thursday. Thank you for keeping my room so nice". I usually leave $1 in the mini bar for that person too. I don't go crazy hunting them down. I put it in the room and let it be. At meals I pretty much agree. a dollar or two at breakfast and lunch and anywhere from $3 to $10 for dinner. Now that's when I make sure that my server gets it by giving it to them. Ok say you get totally awful service. Then I will possibly not leave anything. I HATE doing this! Sometimes it is what I have to do. Drinks I usually tip $1 a drink. Once in a while I'm out of change and don't tip. Sometimes when you order a round of 5 or 6 drinks maybe $3. Most people don't tip at all so these workers are still going to love me. Here are a couple of people I always tip. After 3 or 4 days and I've gone to the towel shack for about the 10th time and got handed 2 fresh towels I give the 1 or 2 people there $1 or $2. I do the same thing for that woman who keeps the public restroom by the pool spotless. She is constantly running into the bathrooms mopping up the puddles left by people wo go into the bathroom soaking wet. Someone else you might want to tip are those guys who wake up at 5AM and scrap all the seaweed crap off the beach so it's nice for you when you go down to snag your chair at 7AM to start your day. I've had the butler a couple of times and honestly I don't use him/her. So I tip them if they are there to be kind but I'd rather not have the butler. I keep it in perspective. One thing I don't like is when the workers are begging/scamming for money. on my last trip after I left a tip in the room every day the housekeeper approached me for more money. Some of the workers were trying to sell crap jewelery to the guest. That's not right. In closing, If I'm spending $2,500 - $3,500 for the all inclusive for a week I can afford the $150 for the tips, $60 for the checked bag and $150 for the travel insurance. If I can't I stay home.

If you can't afford a few dollars to tip these hard working people then you should just stay home. I don't always tip unless they do a good job. I was very disappointed in the service I received at the Hideaway Royalton Punta Cana last week, so a lot of people didn't get tips that I would normally tip. I always tip my bartender because they take care of me with my drinks.

Of course they will say either currency is fine, but if you want to back up your words with actions on being respectful to local cultures, then use Mexican currency in Mexico! Sure dollars are convenient for US travellers but the idea that dollars are preferred stems from the old peso suffering from instability and devaluation in the 80’s and 90’s. Insightful video. This is always a hot topic 😂

It's ridiculous to think that an all inclusive ALSO tips your service people. OF COURSE YOU TIP ! You're drinking and eating for free esentially sometimes three meals at a dinner if you care to the least you can do is leave a ten or twenty at dinner that would cost you 400 dollars at home. I always tip at least a dollar for each round of drinks and three to five at breakfast or lunch IF I am really waited upon. BIG DEAL to add an extra hundred to a trip and make it a great vibe for all!!!!

good video again....we found on our trip 2 yrs ago to punta cana majestic mirage ..your videos were very helpful thank you for all the info for this video u made me think of some issuses we seen and had with tipping say at the buffett or restraunts there were a few people througout the eating experience each meal that we were confused as to leaving a tip on the table and who would get it it...i felt that they almost flocked to the table in the week as we were known for good tippers and i was not sure if they ALL would split the tip or just some lucky person cleaning the table or watching us leave would get the tip....we cant be tipping everyone say who helped during a meal as it would cost to much lol just aconcern as we are headed back this x mas,,,,from snowy canada
