Awesome tip! Thanks for sharing!!! I had trouble getting my tensioning right following the recommended instructions and was still running into bad stitches. This was very helpful!!
I had gone through and buffed everything having to do with the presser food, bobbin, plate, the works, i was searching for the video on how to put the bobbin mechanism back in when I found this one. so, I followed up with the main tensioner, thank you for video. And yes, this machine requires regular maintenance. now, I really need to find that other video! 🧐
Thanks Im sewing skirts for a saddle with fleece on the bottoms....Ive had my Boss for 6 years...I will try this...Im having all kinds of issues with it to day...never thought of this...
“Dirty” pulley and washers cause a lot of problems. Sewing machines of all kinds throw off a lot of fibers that are difficult to see. They become slightly tacky which causes the thread to do strange things. My father had a shop where they made women’s clothing. There were 10 seamstresses working. You would be surprised at the amount of fibers in the air and on the machinery. That was the cause of machinery breakdown. My father had all Singer sewing machines. Every Saturday after work he would break down the sewing machines and thoroughly clean them out.
Thank you for this. In order for me to get even top and bottom, my boss is terribly tight. I see you just very easily pulled the thread when you were done. Mine is a very hard pull even if I slack the top thread. Still figuring it out.
I wish I saw this last Aug.! I have 2 Boss Stitchers. Both of them have this same isue. (And more.) I ended up buying a cowboy 4500. But I'm going to try this too.
I’ll have to try this. My biggest issue has always been missed stitches, which come up from time to time in a way that I haven’t been able to diagnose.
I had a problem with another machine with the thread bunching up beneath the leather, I initially thought it was a tension issue with the bobbin - the fix was to thread the machine with the presser foot raised. It's an easy fix - it may help someone out in the future.
Wow,do i need adjust tension for any different type of leather ? For example i finished sewing project with 10oz leather, and now want to a sew a project with 5oz
So what you’ve done here is reduced the friction between the washers and the other parts of the tensioner with the addition of the felt and the polishing of parts so it keeps the tension alot more even because the wheel can spin better?
I had the opposite problem..no matter what the slock stitch was always on the bottom like a dogfood bag. Tried all diff ranges of tension nothing would make it even out for more than one or two stitches.
at 119you can see the thread making a circle around the tensioner thats not the way it should be, that's most likely the trouble with it, i,ve used my boss for about 5 or 6 years and never threaded the machine like that, and never missed a stich, dont think thats the way the manual said do it either
