We were exactly the same over 25 years ago when the muck was too wet, we used to shout "SOUP'S HERE", constantly testing the labourers patience. Certainly got through a few.
I'm 50..been doing this for 34 years. Whats funny is literally watching a man in his later 20s having the life sucked out of him 😂 The building game can be great. Unfortunately its full of walkers.
@@tommodobbo3475 Just generally the building trade...being surrounded by wannkers..realising there is more to life than working. He seems to be getting his balance right now. When you're young you dream of a bug business with lots of workers. Not easy finding them though.
Personally if someone else has done the muck and it comes over too wet if there's a bit of ply about I will quickly chuck half the tub on it and hopefully the bottom has a bit of stiffness to it. Both method will work...
I've worked with loads of bricklayers over the years charlie on day work and price but you have to be one of the best I've seen keep up the good work charlie from rob froud in basingstoke hampshire
Hello Charlie, I'm a former bricklayer, construction in general is not an easy trade,I admire your honesty and whit, keep up your good work, which of your parents is Irish if you don't mind me asking, good luck with the future. 👍
When he was building his corner it didn't matter he only needed one end of the line up to keep it plumb to the line by eye and then he was keeping gauge using his level and eyes... Hope that helps, a year late but catching up with Charlie's vidoes
Started watching about a year ago. Love watching your vids, learning so much I use on site myself now. Keep’em comin’. Maybe do a video on best way to book in. Other RU-vid vids say you can book window formers, air vents, DPC on linear meter ect. How do you do it? #pickanddip FTW
Hey Charlie! I haven’t been subscribed long, I really enjoy watching your brick work, I’m a brick laying apprenticeship and I’m not really doing that much brick work at the moment which is annoying as it’s what I wanna do, it helps to watch and take notes on what you do and how you work.
@@tommodobbo3475 I’m trying my best to get on the line! it’s just really hard when I’m looking after 2 Brickies a day as they always want something.. hopefully they try and get a new labourer so I can spend more time on it the trowel but we will see..
when i started my apprenticeship i was used as a labourer and wasnt learning anything. i told the bricklayer that if i wasnt getting on the line i wasnt doing any more labouring on him .then i told him that if i wasnt being trained as a bricklayer i would be reporting him to the CITB. he went balistic , but then realised that i meant what i said. came to an agreement that i would be laying bricks more. sometimes you got to stand up.
Loads of sites thrown away offcuts of ply, 12mm ply is usually the go to, wouldn't both with chipboard as the minute you start tapping ya trowel on it to get the muck off it will split it and you will get craters forming....
Do toy put insulation in the cavity Charlie? A lot of vids i dont see any . I always have to put kingspan or extroteerm bats in before taking up face work otherwise you wont fet them in with ties in the way. Intersted to know what system you use if could be arsed answering on an old video 😂
Just saw a reply from ye ," blown in" . Jasus that's handy. I thought they gave up on that system particularly on new builds cuz of damp issues. Ah well better for you mate just focus on getting them in . No pr#$king about with insulation . Some places take the piss, want you putting in insulation , windows and door frames , c section damp flashing, we're brickies slash windows installers slash damp guys slash insulators these days.. 😂😂
Don’t do the same bond above the commons and the course below the commons mate if they’re really picky on that site, some nhbc inspectors don’t like straight joints over 300mm👍
I live on a active site there building right across from mine as we speak, finding myself in between home school am sat watching them doing the gable and saying in my head Charlie wouldn't be doing that 🤣
Just be careful there at 13:00 minutes Charlie. I know you know what you're doing and I'm not telling you how to do you're job, but the site I'm on atm the NHBC wouldn't accept block on block . They'd make me take that down and half bond the top course with the course under the coursing block. Not sure if its the same everywhere but its a pain when someone pulls you on something like that.
Cheers 🍻 mate im 28 married to the woman i love and have 2 wonderful kids a 4 yr old boy and a 8 yr old girl and both have same bday October 16 i love when they wont to help dad lay bricks
Why have you not set up profile's, and gauged them whilst you're waiting for your gang to arrive ect. @ 2mins I'm watching. Rather than building a corner. Love the video's
Hello,im 16 and in college doing a 2 year diploma in Brickwork, we was told not to hit our level because it makes it go off centre or something but i seen you hit your level in the video, is it just because the college don’t want us damaging their equipment or is there a real reason?
Try not to hit it with the trowel end of the level the head being plastic or wood isn't as bad... Brickys should check their level once a year imo with an on site level checker...
It used to be a thing not to hit the level but they are tougher and more disposable than the were. It is important not to hit the level because they are teaching you good practice. When you are good, you can decide if you hit the level or not but until then, you can see what mistakes you make and lay a better bed. If you are hitting any brick or level, you have laid to much bed. You’ll get there 👍🏻
19:40 what did that guy (site agent?) Say to you? You said , I knew you was going to say that, ok I'll go over them with the disc cutter???? Great video all round, enjoyed that. Thanks for sharing 👍 See you on the next one 👍👊💯💪🤙🍺
Should have got the overworked talking hoddy to cut some. 10 bricks cut at 100mm and flipped around for other 10 as no frogs. Must be driving you mad now Charlie. It would me and most on here from comments.
Do they teach pick and dip and waist level spot boards as an alternative in college nowadays, or do they still pretend that there is only one way to lay bricks? You would make a superb college teacher, Charlie. Maybe a career move in the future?
Building an extension at the moment on the back of someone’s house that already has existing brick work that we needed to knock down, the brick work had sunk all over the place, when we knocked it down we realised whoever had built it had put the footings in the wrong place so instead of fixing there fuck up they built it half on the footing and half on clay, proper cowboys 😂😂 little story for you all to giggle at.
No luck with your gangs What is wrong with people I do feel for you Charlie, have you thought about speaking to your local collage, I would imagine if they reviewed some of your footage, they would set you up with some promising new starters to the trade.
@@CharlieCollison I’ve always found it worth while, they can use their daytime work to complete the modules. Plus I’m sure any collage tutor will give you the promising starters after they see you can teach. It’s not easy to talk through how you work and break down the processes you follow. Most trades autopilot, teaching is patients and you can see you got that skill. Keep at it Charlie
self employed boys would rather sit on there ass all day and wait for there grants off the government. There closing sites because no one is coming to work.
Charlie - at 4:14 and 5:40 it looks like you only move your line up at the end you are laying - is the other end also moved or do you leave it where it is? Sorry if its a stupid question, I'm not a brickie 🤔
He does say he’s using it only to line up the fronts and using the spirit level to make sure the bricks are level. Reasonable if you’re only laying a few bricks on each course. Once he’s built up both corners and doing the full run in between he’ll use a level line.
