I don't have the same disease, but I have another more rare (I think?!) disease called Best's Disease and have the same issues - loss of central vision but still have peripheral vision. It is super super hard and your positive attitude and solutions are really helping me deal with the changes that keep happening to my sight.

Oh wow, so sorry to hear you’re going through something similar. I hope that things get better for you. (easier is very unlikely) but you can still live life to the fullest. Sending love your way.

Thanks for the tips on Stargardt’s disease. I hope that the flickering of the lines - in your eye- is not an everyday occurrence. Hope that they find a drug that trick the cell or repair it to either cure the disease. Thanks for always staying positive and hope to more videos like this in the future. Paz 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷

I was diagnosed in 2005, and they told me the same thing, a cure was being worked on and would come around in 5-10 years lol it's comical now, but like you said, don't hinge your life on waiting for a cure, as much as I wanted my life to go back to normal, the mental energy I put into trying to "go back" was taking away from me finding work arounds in my "now." Great video as always!

@@alishainc Oh, and I think you're awesome!!!!

Amazing, just come across your channel, nice to hear about someone else with my condition doing so well. PMA is the most important thing with the condition, I work so hard, and had to completely change career after my diagnosis. For me that isolation is the hardest bit, and people just really don’t understand it, I’ve never met anyone else with the same condition as me. Despite this, I went into personal training and sports massage therapy, and I now own my own gym in the countryside in England, with over 150 clients, things are amazing… Keep up the good work ❤

I found out that I had "something" wrong with my retinas almost exactly a year ago. I got the official diagnosis of Stargardt in May. I was 37 then. I am 38 now. So I totally get the thinking about how life was before thing. That's REALLY hard for me at times. I dig the practicing mindfulness thing. I have a great therapist who is always encouraging me to practice my mindfulness skills and when I am stressing or getting really upset, taking 5 minutes to focus on my breath really helps. Last time I was examined I was 20/50 corrected in my left eye and 20/70 in my right. I just got progressive glasses to help with reading however I am starting to notice a decline. The progressive lenses are a bit disorienting plus work is super stressful and I have been dealing with pretty severe pain from my TMJ sp yeah.......lots of stress. Most days I dont think too much about Stargardt but on the days I do, well it's a struggle not to feel really sorry for myself. And I hate the flashing lights......soooooo annoying. I have had that since my diagnosis. And ETA, by ophthamologist at the National Institutes of Health here in the states told me to avoid Vitamin A rich foods and to wear sunglasses soooooo. You have to be pretty smart to work at NIH so I trust her.

Hi Alisha! Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I have a question about Stargardt's: Do you have color vision loss? If so, what does that look like for you?

Thanks Alisha for sharing! I have Stargardt’s disease and often feel lonely or disconnected in social situations, because I can’t always see who I am talking to. Do you/anyone experience this also, or have any advice?
@alishainc
@alishainc 4 года назад
I feel that way most days. If I'm close to someone, I'll sit closer to them so I can actually see their face. Otherwise, I'll work twice as hard to be present and quiet my thoughts that wander when I can't make eye contact and I feel sad about it.
@bridgetpanych2871

Alisha's Guide Yes, that is exactly how I feel. Sometimes I find it difficult to focus when others are talking to me. Then I feel embarrassed to move closer, but that’s kind of a stupid reason to be embarrassed...now I think I am developing poor listening skills, and that sucks! I am really glad I stumbled across your video. I am vowing now to practice being more present. Thank you. :)
