I recently turned fourteen in February, when I was thirteen about a few months ago. I started dancing ballet once again. When I was five, I danced ballet for a year. I then moved to a different country, and then tried out figure skating for about a year. I then swam competitively, then danced hip hop for two years. Anyway, I have ballet classe three times a week for an hour and thirty minutes. I am in a class with girls of the ages of ten but there is one girl that is also fourteen there too. There's also a group which is more advanced, already en pointe and the girls there are my age. When I first came, which was a few months ago (3? Really not that long ago) then my teacher told my mother that she will transfer me there after some time. One of the girl's from the upper group, loves to come at the end of our class when we are doing our variations, and she does it with us. She is also fourteen, she is at the other group with pointe shoes and all. She started dancing three years ago, when she was eleven. She is one of the best dancers, she already flew to Europe several times winning gold. I really look up to her, she told me that I have to work really hard in order to succeed. She said because I am at such an age, that I have to work now and not wait. She always gives me and the other girls advice, which I always try to note. My teacher keeps giving me a lot of praises, I am even dancing at the front row in class now. There is currently a substitute teacher, reason being our teacher has unfortunately gotten covid. Yesterday that teacher told me that I have potential, and that really gives me hope. I work every single day, not a day of rest goes by. I rehearse the variations, even the choreography that's being taught at class. I am currently working on my pirouettes, alongside everything else, since there's always space for improvement. My mother and I, will go and purchase some essential equipment for myself this week. Like therabands, foam rollers, foot rollers, yoga mat, marley floor/padding and more. I dance ballet because I feel like it is such a big part of me, I have missed it ever since I stopped dancing when I was young. I am so happy to be starting ballet again, it's a dream come true. I don't know if I will become a professional but I do lay out goals for myself to achieve. I am just happy to know that I'm not the only one, and that there is a chance for me (English isn't my mother language, so hopefully everything made sense). Thank you for reading my comment.

I was so excited that I found someone like me, who had started later, went to a recreational studio, and only took one class a week (and eventually became a professional).... And then she said she started adding classes. 😢 I'm in a weird spot, my studio only has one class a week at my level, and one pointe class a week (which I am a part of), and it is VERY recreational. I want to go into the ballet field in some way (being a corps member of a company would be my highest flying dream, though I would be perfectly happy just teaching) and I have told my parents, but they didn't understand at all that my dream is to be a professional, and they pretty much said "it's not possible for you, you'll find something else to do as a career." So... There isn't really any chance of them allowing me to switch to a less-recreational studio, and I don't really know how to follow my dream. I practice at home every day because 1. I just love dancing, and 2. I have to practice more to get where I want to go, but I don't know if I am going to get far enough. Then there is also the financial issue, that my family can't afford more classes or for me to go to summer intensives, because I have three siblings. I have no clue where I was going with this... Does anyone know of any professionals who were in the same spot as me during their teen years? I have been searching for the last year and a half (I started taking ballet 2 years ago when I was 12 and realized I want to pursue it as a career about 1/4 to 1/2 the way through the year) and I find someone who is kind of like me, but then it is only in one thing but not the rest. Example: Misty Copeland started when she was a year older than I started (yay!), but she had access to lots of classes (😔), Elizabeth in this video was the same as Misty, and I just can't find ANYONE who checks the same boxes that I do. Kirsten, if you see this comment, is there any way I can send you video of my dancing so you can tell me if I have potential? (no matter what your answer, I am still going to try to go pro, and you will just be another person I will have to prove wrong.) Sorry for the super long comment!!☺️

I really want to begin ballet as a 21 year old, I'd love to make it a part of my life in any signifigant way but if I could go pro at this age as an adult I'd love to, but it's not my goal immediatley just a dream, rn just to start taking classes, get good tecnique and get on pointe eventually when I'm ready.

Ok this will sound weird, but email all the ballet schools in your area, and I mean ALL, and explain your love for dance and financial situation, and ask if they'd be willing to let you work in exchange for classes, or something along those lines. Remember to be respectful lol, you never know, it works for some people. If someone IS willing to help you, make sure you're absolutely willing to put in the work 👍👍

Dear guys!!! I really apologize? but do do need your help. I know nobody can know for sure, but I really need you advice. So the thing is I figured out that I want to do ballet proffesionally, but...I'm already 18, I've had some dance classes which includes contemporary, folk dancing and classical barre with some turns and jumps. During this 2 and a half year I caught up with the others and was called really hardworking. BUT I undarstand that it's not enough to become, well, a ballet-dancer. And dancers of my age usually look for a job already... . I'm kind of enrolled in my local ballet school, but i will be the oldest there, most possible, and still not good as they are... . I really lost, I've finished my first year at the uni, it's one of the best unis in my countly, but....well, I don't like studying there. I dont know what to do!!! Should I just let everything go and go to the ballet school or am I just stupid?(((((((((((((
