Playing my Gibson L1 to share various ways to improve your ability to play rhythm. Playing the Gibson L1 with an LR Baggs pickup to the Bose S1. Also using a Shure Mic. The mix is recorded to an iPhone 15.
EXCELLENT lesson. If you're learning to play, listen to and practice what Cindy is showing here! She's is spot on and explains it perfectly in a simple manner. I wish you were on RU-vid when I was first learning. There were many great teachers on, but your way of explaining things is great ! Luv your channel !!
Spot on evaluation of the bass/rhythm value in any song! Great players all know what rhythm means to the finished product. Good lesson for eary players.
Thank you for another great lesson. I’m Glad you mentioned the metronome. I’m Going to start using one with my practice time!!! Also, clearly Hazel loves you❤
My favorite thing about power chords is it’s so easy to deaden your strings for that percussive sound since you’re typically holding down a few strings in a row if not all. Some folks have an issue holding down all the strings with their index finger, especially like the F chord @ the first fret. Luckily my dad used to make me hold them down and make me pluck each string one at a time till they were all clear and ringing 😂. Thanks for sharing your interesting feeds! Have a great day from here on Long Island, New York.
As I'm listening, I never developed rhythm. I never learned any other songs either but the one. My friend is a bass player and I have only played with him a few times and he's helped me have some rhythm. It actually grew my style some too. Being a Christian at so young, I let go of all secular music until recently (since covid) started listening to this new sound. Blues! I use the e major pentatonic scale. Thanks again.
Gospel music is rooted with a variety of types of music including jazz, blues, country. So if you were listening to gospel you did not miss much!! 😀 it’s all in there and will keep you coming back for more ❤️
I heard a man pounding sheet metal as if he was listening to a metronome. I'm guessing he must be a drummer. Rhythm, pulse and groove are key to great songs. Thanks for covering this great topic.
Hazel loves you, but she decided she didn’t want to learn about power chords today, lol. Power chords were very helpful to me early on while I was still having trouble getting open chords to ring out clearly and was far from being able to do barre chords. They were easy enough and let me play all kinds of songs that I probably wasn’t ready to do. They also were helpful to my rhythm, though I’m a natural at strumming and rhythm thankfully- we all can use to practice that and be better. Anyway, the only thing about power chords is that they are sometimes very wearing on the large muscle below my thumb and some of the other muscles in the crook of my palm. It’s not painful, but that muscle gets very fatigued by the time I get to the end of a song that’s very heavy on power chords. Anyone know some good exercises to strengthen those muscles a bit? I’m disabled, so I’m at a bit of a a disadvantage with muscle strength and dexterity, but I’ve come SO much farther than I ever could have imagined in over 4 years - learning to play has been like my own form of PT, OT, cognitive therapy (I also have a TBI), and even recreational therapy. This muscle seems to be a particular nuisance. It’s much better than it used to be, but some strength training ideas might be useful. Also very true about practicing with a metronome. Lots of people don’t bother to use them, but they really help you dial yourself in. I even have one that not only beeps, but can vibrate too. There are great apps for making sure your tuning and metronome skills are on point, and it helps you with getting complex rhythms down. You can use them solo or along with music tracks. Super useful! Great lesson and advice that any player of any level can gain some takeaways!
Your experiences adapting so you can keep playing are remarkable. ❤️ I think a physical therapist is the best person to ask about the strength training. The metronome does get left behind a lot. I need to use it more often for practice too. Thanks again for sharing your ideas and thoughts! ❤️
I miss having a buddy to play with. Perhaps I'll do a Facebook advertisement looking for that. Thank you because I sorta wake up to this every day now. You're so kind. It's refreshing coming from the west coast in Cali (Squaw Valley)
Check in your community for regular jam sessions. We have a great group here in my town. I have been too busy to get to it here, but it’s run by a couple of awesome people. There is room for all at any level of playing. ❤️
Hello. The subscribe button should be below the video you are watching. Or go to my main title page it should be there too. It’s a black elongated button. Thanks.
Amen before I started doing what you're saying there people trying to show me up and down I couldn't even begin to play the rhythm on the guitar. I'm dyslexic just trying to figure out which is up and which is down almost every time someone tells me is just like telling me left or right requires that I think about it. I saw someone on RU-vid years ago showed me to just listen to the song the melody of the words the beat of the song like you said . I can strom pretty good now. Thanks for pointing this out to people who are just learning I wish all the years that I was trying to strum I would have known that and thank God I learned about it about 10 years ago. And you are teaching it now!
Thank you. Thank you so much. My well meaning husband was doing his best to explain power chords to me and he totally lost me. I felt like crying after but this was simple
