Welcome to this week's podcast! Have you replaced your RV mattress? How did it go and want to share who you purchased from? Let us know in the comments what your experience was like, and of course, we always welcome any thoughts and opinions on the topics discussed. See you next week! - Jason and Abby
We have a high end class a that came with a horrible mattress. Having had a bad mattress in our airstream previously, added at topper that made it tolerable for the short trips we took at the time, we knew we needed better. We had a queen Doctors choice firm from Denver mattress in our guest room that we loved. We removed the old mattress and moved the Doctors choice mattress into the class a. We are now very happy and sleeping much better. The rv mattress is now in the guest room with the old 4” topper. Works great for the grandkids.
DO NO PAY! for an over priced RV mattress. Our select comfort on our Fleetwood, Bounder failed while we were traveling in Arizona. We went to Mattress Firm in Flagstaff. They had the Purple mattress with the exact dimensions for our space. The best mattress hands down and for 1/3 the cost $600. The original cost $1200. They had a returned including all warranties. It beats the overpriced, uncomfortable, not well made, cheap RV mattresses out there in the market. We've had it now for 4 months. We'd buy it again.
We just replaced our RV King mattress a couple of weeks ago with a custom mattress from Mattress Insider to accommodate our slide. We measured the old mattress and gave them our requirements. It was a bit pricey, but, as you said, we will be spending a third of our lives on it (once we hit the road full-time next spring). Ours was 92 pounds shipping weight - glad shipping was free!
Loved this podcasts. Loved the talk about Rv mattresses. I also loved the talk of Top Gun 2. I loved the first one. Loved the talk on Disney. Ya I feel the same way I think it’s going be hard for movie theaters to make a cone back when slot people stream and don’t want to go because of COVID. Thank you both so much for these podcast fir us to see on Utube. I want to try watching on my iPhone but not sure what time Sunday you are on with the time difference. Love to you both see you soon! Stay safe.
After years of camping on horrible beds, I am certainly looking at the details like mattresses (and hinges and hydraulics....). When you’re older and experienced and full time, those details matter! Congrats on 174 podcasts!
I was surprised how interesting and informative your mattress video was. I ordered a hybrid latex/spring mattress and have high hopes for a comfortable nights sleep. Thanks
We have an upgraded Serta regular queen. Was a Cedar Creek upgrade and is ok. At home 9" Lull foam which we love -- we are side sleepers. Took a few nights to get used to it. I think we will but a Lull in our fifth wheel. They give a 100 day free trial.
simply amazing broadcast guys..... loved it.... Can't wait for the not one..... Keeping Kicking it Forward...... Would love for you to discuss Rving and the military families. Several of us, US Marines, rv a lot.... Thanks
Check Hawk Bedding company in Lees Summit, since you are in the area. They custom make mattresses and are very reasonable. They are on Independence Ave just north of Colbern Road.
We got a 10" Zinus bed on another podcaster recommendation. We *hated* it. Put a two inch Zinus memory foam topper on it. I could sleep on it, but Lorraine was miserable. Finally gave up and got another SleepNumber.
From my research on Amazon reviews you have to be careful with anything that has a cover because some of the covers are made of fiberglass. But reading reviews can help you figure out which ones are best for cutting. Big tip - electric knife is easiest way to cut up foam mattresses/toppers.
Went to an RV lot last weekend. They had 3 new Rvs on their lot! A Prowler travel trailer, a Cruiser 5th Wheel, and a Kodiak bunkhouse travel trailer. They're having trouble getting deliveries in unless its preordered.
I've been happy with zinus products. I have a twin and rv queen innerspring, and also a 5 inch foam in the 5th wheel sleeper sofa. I'm not a fan of toppers as they make me roast, but the three inch serenia sleep gel topper from amazon does not have that suffocating feeling other toppers give me. It's actually more comfortable than the bed in my house. One nice thing with the innerspring is that you can get comfort without a tall mattress. I also have a pop up camper, so am limited on vertical space, and the 6 inch innerspring works perfectly.
So since you like to do research, do your research on the sleep number. I have read many revues on them and they are like an air mattress and as you well know, air mattress can and will spring leaks!!
Todays topic of the dreaded RV mattress is one of many opinions. We have the Casper and really enjoy it. While I understand the opinion of not wanting RV shows, there are other helpful events that take place. An example of this is seminars. Tampa will have 2 this year we are interested in attending. These can be done safely and still provide helpful information. The vendor buildings, that will be a tall task. Honestly, I wouldn’t be going to see the vendors but we need our portable water softener serviced.
Had a corner bed mattress in ours. Horrific-bad even by RV mattress standards. Went to local foam store, consulted them on requirement, was able to try numerous types of foams in various densities. Ended up with 2 foams bonded together and cut to exact size/shape by the foam store. Light years better than the OEM stuff.
We went to the "Original Mattress Company" and had them custom our queen short with a pillow topper. They put a hinge in it so that we could maneuver it into our small 5th wheel. It was challenging, to be sure. Took a while to get used to it. Had a sleep number once in the house and returned it in 3 weeks. We would still a spring of some sort and saw a product (individual polymer springs) that is screwed into the plywood, adds about another 2 inches and acts as a box spring. Has anyone else seen it heard of this? Would be interesting to know if this is a solution.
I would love a new mattress, but our bed is on a slide out and the mattress folds over when the slide is in. I put a topper and really nice gel mattress pad over it that will still allow it to fold, and it’s better but still lacking. I wonder if I can find a more comfortable foldable mattress.
🎄The red lipstick 💄 is Holiday! 💋 Outstanding episode! So, RV beds...so mysterious to a “premie” RV researcher / shopper. What in the world is a “Denver” mattress?! We keep seeing that in ads and brochures. Cannot figure that out. Is it mountainous on one end and flat and dusty on the other? What make it “Denver”? 😂 Another great episode.
Do you guys have info on wintering in a class c 31 ft. Heated tanks and bought water hose with heat tape attached. I just bought this coachmen forest river. Leprechaun. I added an egg crate mattress topper, a padded mattress cover, and at one time a feather bed, but nothing really solved the crease I felt down the middle. And of course, that’s where I wanted to sleep! Still, it’s a step up from sleeping on the ground;). Btw....please don’t push pills, vitamins or otherwise.....
You’re absolutely right, Becky, you do have a choice and so do we. If we aren’t for you, please find someone who is. We are looking for positivity and comments like yours don’t do anything but stir a pot. A pot which has been plenty stirred this year. Be well and I hope you find what you’re looking for on RU-vid. -Abby
Wow. Talk about stirring a pot.....I apologize for agitating the ‘pot’. I really like you guys and I don’t depend on utube for anything. I do make comments sometimes that reflect a deeper thought and hard as I try to not agitate, it sometimes crosses my self imposed lines of saying what I really am feeling. It must be hard times for you, too, so please accept my apology for my comments. I will leave you alone, now. Good-bye.
You do know this is a podcast, right? A podcast is like a talk show with segments and main topics. Always good to know what you are watching before you decide to throw a temper tantrum and end up looking foolish. Bye.
RV Miles, tantrum ? nope, and no I didn't know it was a podcast nor did I care enough to investigate before watching. I began watching because of your title...wasn't aware it was just click bait to add to your numbers. Must be nice to be able to afford needing no new viewers.
