Tips For Finding Your Wedding DJ 

Hello! Wedding DJ here. These are some solid tips for couples looking for DJs. We often come across folks who don’t think the DJ is important and have us as more of an after thought but as mentioned, we tend to be the ones who help keep things running smoothly along with the planners so the couples can enjoy their day to the fullest. That being said, it definitely helps us when you have at least all your important songs picked out at least 2 weeks ahead (I.e. first dance, parent dances, private dance, etc) Also, please take into account that if you are wanting to have a better time during the dancing portion, you’ll want to have your DJ as close to the dance floor as possible (preferably right on the edge). Not centered or in the place of the sweethearts table but just really close to where there’s minimal distance between your DJ and your guests. This helps create a stronger bond and better engagement, so check your venues for layout ideas. Go to wedding expos! You can typically find 1-3 DJs there and some may offer discounts for booking thru the expo. You can also get a genuine feel since you’re meeting face to face. We have one coming up next month and I’m taking my mixer so if potential clients request it, I can mix live for them in the moment. Ask your DJ what mixing style they use. Some still play full tracks the whole time, similar to just prepping a Spotify playlist and letting that play. Some of us quick mix which is where we mix tracks to keep energy peaked while still playing all the hits. Then there’s scratch djs who also mix but incorporate scratching throughout.
