Justin is a friend and colleague of mine. He taught our On the Water Casts and Techniques Masterclass over at Anchored Outdoors, where he teaches eighteen chapters of tricks and tips to help increase your chances of catching more fish.
Long before we shot the class, however, we met up for a day to film this short vlog about how to ensure you’re making this most of your time on the water. Enjoy!

I have been fly fishing for almost 20 years and up until today, I have never had someone point out a few of the keys that I saw on this vid! This was great! 😁

this video is like 3 years old but I spotted that Tailwater Lodge jacket rather quick. Thanks for coming to fish on local waters!

I liked the line prep. I helped a New Zealand Stream guide catch a nice 6lb. Rainbow in my local lake.Led him right to it and gave him a very wooly bugger. He was very happy as he wasn't getting the big ones but got out on the lake in the pre- dawn. We had the lake to ourselves for a couple of hours. I've caught a 5 lb.rainbow in the morning but it's so beautiful at that time of day. The bite will come on at sometime. Plus the Lake will give up some if it's secrets.

Fantastic tips, I particularly like the tip to do rolly Polly under your left arm so you can grab the rod with your right once the fish is hooked. This should help me with my muskie fishing, thanks.

Often when I am fishing with a someone they ask how I get line out so quickly without false casting? It was really apparent in this video that you feed line out on the back cast and haul it forward . For me it reduces the false cast and gets your fly to the fish before it gone . Nice job :-)

The loop at 09:04......... . I don't know if this is worth anything but on long casts I like to lower the tip as the line falls. That way as the line speed decreases it does not have to pull line up and out of the rod tip. I also like to throw line back towards the stripping guide after the final haul getting the line on the ground moving so it takes less energy to lift it off the ground.

Sorry I only just saw this comment Mathew. You are spot on! That video of the cast was just a casting demo but you picked up on a very crucial point of lowering the tip and also what I’ve heard called the “triple haul” to get the line taught and aid the turnover
