Love this video! It has so many training principles and cognitive behaviors explained simply and all in the same video. I will be replaying this video in my head while I'm working with my young and anxious OTTB.

Could you explain more about the looking in the direction away from you? ie you are grooming on his left and the horse is looking to right and vice versa. I hav3 oft3n wondered about 5his as my 26 yr old Arab does this often if I groom in this this same situation in an arena. Thank you. BTW, new to this channel and love your thorough explanations 😊

Gail Doan Yes, that horse was used to not looking to the human for direction. We want a horse to be considerate and aware of us, it is important that the horse is always feeling for us therefore looking in our direction. How do we get the horse feeling for us? We have to always be ready and set the situation up to encourage the horse to think and look towards us and discouraging the horse looking away. Could be as simple as The horse bumping into the rope (thinking he ran into his own pressure) or could be drawing his attention towards us with flag saddle pad etc. Great having you here at the channel. Thank you so much!
