I also lit a candle close by, the flame burns the lint flying around. Got the tip from my doctor 'cause I work with fabrics and am allergic to dust so, a candle is useful too, plus a scented one is inspirational and calming :)

Use rubbing achohol and q-tips to remove finger prints and lint . Do it before baking ever so gently put the rubbing achohol on the q-tip and rub the polymer clay figure gently.

Once again, thanks. I've just started working with polymer clay...using for one specific project and am using just white and black. I have been frustrated because my white has been so dirty looking. This was very helpful! It helped me see that even my fingers were transferring the black clay to the white. I'd like to add a tip of my own that I discovered in my short time of working with clay. I've been using Kato, and this brand is the only one I have had experience with. It is very sticky and difficult to clean up, but I found that cleaning my work surface with goo gone cleans it right up, and wiping my hands down with coconut oil not only removes all the clay, but makes my hands feel nice, too. Thanks so much for generously sharing your expertise. I love you tube for this reason...so many people willing to share what they have learned from their experience. Keep up the excellent work.

Not sure if you mentioned this in the video, but using a piece of translucent clay really works better than anything out there to clean up. After a wipe down with lysol or alcohol wipes, just use it like a sponge and rub it/roll it around the entire work area, pasta machine, roll it in your hands, tools, etc, and it will take away ALL the ugly dust :) I wouldn't hesitate to keep an entire block of translucent clay dedicated to cleaning (not all at once, just little pieces at a time), its totally worth it, it will save more clay in the end and heartache. Especially if you have some scrap translucent clay leftover. I also use a knife/blade to pick out tough pieces of dust and discard that into the blob of translucent cleaner clay, it will make it softer, I use the premo regular translucent because it's not that useful for me, it bakes too dark and yellowish for me so I prefer the fimo white or even premo white translucent (haven't tried it yet), but even rubbing lotion or baby oil to make it stickier (not too much though) and softer so it works better as a dust magnet.

My kitty passed away this year after 18 years :'( But I don't think I would have been doing clay if she was here, I'd be worried if she ate it or became exposed to the craft stuff, now that I have no pets, and no children in the house, I can do anything I want, but still miss my beloved kitty, I'd find a way to keep her with the clay (just don't let her inside the room hehe) if she was still here :(

Hi Cindy, I have only been working with polymer clay for the past few months and love your videos, they have been a great help in setting me on the right track. I was wondering if you could give me a few pointers, I have polymer clay beads that I made when I first started and I want to take the glaze off them, can you tell me if I can go ahead and sand them down with the wet on wet sandpaper. Thanks so much Cindy, :-). X
@PolymerClayTutor
@PolymerClayTutor 10 лет назад
Hi artistgirl01 Thanks for the compliments! To remove a water based glaze, you can soak it in rubbing alcohol. For other more stubborn glazes, try using acetone. Both of these methods are easier than sanding off a glaze.

Thank u for the tips u shown me. I have a question about tool and glosses. The first question is: I am fairly new at polymer clay design and don't have a lot of money for tools what can I use as substitute for the tools I need and the second question is I have use sculpey gloss glaze to give my piece a shine because I have a buffer tool but the gloss is leaving streaks in my work, what can I do to get the streak out or how can I polish my piece without spending money on product that I can afford and I love ur videos the tips the u share r very helpful thank u
@PolymerClayTutor
@PolymerClayTutor 10 лет назад
Hi Kwanza Hill If you have a buffer, you don't actually need to use a liquid glaze. Sanding with Polymer Clay Polishing and Sanding Papers and then buffing will give you a lovely shine. Especially if you add Polymer Clay Finishing - Renaissance Wax If you must use a liquid glaze, then make sure you have a high quality flat art brush to apply it with, that way you will get less streaks.

Is that a UV lamp on your desk? Just curious what you use it for with clay? Also, how do you keep red clay from color transferring onto white clay?
@PolymerClayTutor
@PolymerClayTutor 4 года назад
I use the lamp to cure UV Resin on Polymer Clay ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9XjSchhX7Q4.html And to keep red clay from transferring to white clay, wash your hands after working with red and keep your hands dry. (Also consider switching brands. Premo, Souffle and Cosclay don't transfer colors near as bad as SculpeyIII and Fimo.)

this is kinda off topic to this video, but I'm having trouble keeping pieces of my charm secure like a small bear arm for instance.. I make super tiny charms and I try to blend really good but no matter what I do I'll put it in the oven and take it out, then an arm will break off when it's finished cooling.. it's super frustrating.. I use fimo and premo clay , do you have any advice you could give me?
@katievono1615
@katievono1615 7 лет назад
Alexis Jones sculpey bake and bond will help!!! It's like glue for clay. TLS ( translucent liquid sculpey) also works but bake and bond is a thicker consistency and it works a lot better. I also work with very small clay charms and I have never had a problem while using it. Also if you attaching and arm to a body kind rough up the part of the body before you blend so the clay can intertwine if that makes sense.

Hi Foldi! It sounds like you used translucent clay rather than white. Translucent clay looks white before it is baked, so it tricks up a lot of people. Make sure the clay is very white a chalky looking and that is says white on the pack. That will fix your problem. 💖

My problem with white clay isn't so much dirt and lint, but I am always getting what I can only describe as like a bleed from clays of darker colors. I always take every precaution to scrupulously clean my hands, tools, and work area before I work with white clay, but it doesn't solve the problem. It's not tiny flecks that are getting on the clay, it's more like a transfer of residual color. Has anyone else run into this problem?
@PolymerClayTutor
@PolymerClayTutor 8 лет назад
+Jane Doe I am guessing you are using Fimo? If you switch to Premo you will have way less issues with color bleed and dirty clay.
@JaneDoe-xl5be
@JaneDoe-xl5be 8 лет назад
+PolymerClayTutor Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me. I really appreciate it! I actually am using Sculpey products exclusively. I try to stick with Premo (mostly due to your influence 😊), but sometimes use Sculpey III if the color I need does not exist in Premo. So, I do not recall if the problems happened when I was using Premo, Sculpey III, or a combination of the two. Do you still suggest using Premo exclusively? Could the Sculpey III be creating the same problem you were thinking was being caused by Fimo? Thanks again for replying! I just started working with clay a few months ago and I have learned so much from your videos and website. And perhaps more importantly, avoided so many headaches and stupid mistakes thanks to what I've learned from you.
@PolymerClayTutor
@PolymerClayTutor 8 лет назад
+Jane Doe yeah I would stick to the Premo. SculpeyIII could be the problem as well. The reason I mentioned Fimo is because when I started working with the Fimo Professional I noticed the color transferred really badly. This is because water seems to make it more sticky, so if your hands get sweaty, the color smears. I had forgotten about that, since it was a long time since I had last used Fimo. I really don' t like the quality of SculpeyIII so I never use it, but as I remember, it too had issues with color transfer... especially if it was really sticky. It could be a water thing as well. With Premo, all you need to do is wipe your hands on a baby wipe after using a highly pigmented color, like Alizarin Crimson. But other than that, the color transfer is very minimal. Another clay that is easy to work with is Sculpey Souffle. It has a drier feel and you will have way less issues with lint or color transfer. Thanks for your comment!
