Thank you! This will be my 1st year EVER coaching at my Middle School. I think it's going to be a very mixed level of skill. We do have a few girls who play club volleyball which will help.
Excellent! Hopefully the club players will take on leadership roles on your team and help get the rest of the group up to speed! Teams with players who have different abilities can be a challenge to plan for, but it's certainly possible to coach them well! My one piece of advice I'd want to share with you (and other coaches in a similar situation) is to make sure you don't fall into the trap of always coaching the TOP players or the BOTTOM players! In my first year, I prioritized trying to make the less skilled athletes better, and my top players didn't progress as much as I think they could have. Hindsight is 20-20! Okay so I asked my coach if I can be his assistant and he asked me okay so if you “were” assistant coach what would you do? I said I would get the balls for the team so they don’t have to get tired. Now what I said is a huge mistake 😭 My coach said well here’s the thing, they need to get the ball so they can learn not to aim at this direction. This makes me understand of what he said. My coach said he will still be thinking about it and I need help Assap of what to say this video helped me a little BUT it’s just the speech I need help with.
I’m a graduate of Class of 2020. I have played volleyball for years I’m not good for college level. But I want to be a coach is there advice about new coaches.
