Currently in RN refresher course and overwhelmed by information requirements beyond my original scope in the 1980's. I almost gave up and walked away, depressed, when I searched for a "R N refresher" course on RU-vid and found you. Your encouragement and hopeful way you addressed the camera helped. While I still struggle to complete the course, your video(s) does help. Thanks

I had an my very first interview for a nursing job today as I graduated 7 years ago and I never worked yet as a nurse (stayed home with my children) was told to take a refresher course due to not being up to date with certain practices, although Im upset I didnt get the job, I definetly will benefit from a refresher course and it will help with my skills and re gain confidence. Thank you so much for these tips.

I'm in a really bad spot in my life right now, and thanks to your videos I'm motivated again. I thought that it was too late, but with how you approached it, maybe I was just afraid of nothing. Keep it up! I hope that you get to help more people like me.

I’ve been out a little less than 9 years. I had 10 years under my belt. I had a bad car accident and cared for my father w cancer after that. Anyway, worse decision I made was taking off. I have had so much trouble getting back in. No way am I getting in the hospital, not on days anyway. Going to have to try a SNF or home care .. it’s been so disappointing for me. I’m in the Cincinnati area. Honestly makes me regret going to nursing as a career.

I'm not sure if I heard your name correctly, but I think you said "Sarah"...so, Sarah, like most everyone else who has chosen to watch this video, I am a retired RN and have been out of the profession (especially, floor/hospital nursing) for a long time. However, I felt "called" to nursing from a very young age and have missed it tremenously. I've decided to re-enter, and I just want to say thank you so much for taking the time to create such an encouraging, positive video to help all of us out here trying to return to one of the most challenging, yet rewarding and beloved, careers!

Thank you so much for this video! It really helped me find confidence during this time. I am a nurse and I had a non-clinical RN position for about 2 years ever since graduating. I rarely used my clinical skills or patho/pharm nursing knowledge so I feel like I've really forgotten a lot. I want to get back into the field (clinical) and I'v been doubting my capabilities and how it will be like once I go back. This video really helped me though and made me feel more confident about entering. :) Hoping to ace upcoming interviews and adapt quickly. Hoping it all comes back to me again! =)

Hi everyone! I was trying to find a video on how to study after a long break and I came across this one. I’ve been out of nursing school for almost two years now. I didn’t pass my exit exam and was so overwhelmed that I needed a break. This break has been over extended and it’s now or never. I’m ready to give it another go. If anyone has any tips for getting back in the zone please they would be greatly appreciated!

Due to injury and illness I haven't practiced for 8 years. I really want to go back to nursing in hospital settings. I bought my pals book, ACLs, and bcls. I really want to buy some used nursing books to refresh my memory. I haven't learned the new electronic nursing notes. That gives me more anxiety. I can't find a class 4 nursing notes. I know there's text out there but I would really like hands on instructions. I know there's some age discrimination. I hate to be so negative. They can't ask your age but they asked what year did you graduate high school. Even if it's been a year things have changed with medication and equipment. I was a paramedic for 5 years before I started nursing school. I'm a little afraid they won't hire me because of my age and then out of Nursing for so long. I wish I had a Nursing for a long time due to critical illness. I never told my employers that. I did have a business that's the same time that I was out of Nursing. Do you have any suggestions to make me more confident? I don't like applying by computer. I like to interview face to face. I guess there's no way out of that. Thank you for your time

Great video! I'm a foreign-educated nurse (Germany) with an additional OR nursing degree and I've been 6 years out of the job so far. After passing the NCLEX, I'd like to work in the OR again. Hopefully, it doesn't get too bumpy for me, entering the medical field in the US.

I’m in a current state of fear and anxiety. I’ve been out of the nursing field for 8 years, because I struggled a lot to become licensed in US, and I recently got my RN job in US after those long years. I was Educated in Puerto Rico and worked there 8 yrs back, here in US everything feels so different to me. I feel like all the knowledge that I used to have was forgotten. I am so lost and so stressed that, sometimes I just want to give up. I fought so hard to get my RN license, that’s the only thing that keeps me here. But honestly, I’m scared to death. I cannot even sleep and I’m always overthinking due this extreme anxiety. I told my manager about my situation, of being out of nursing for 8 years. But despite of that, they put me in orientation for 8 weeks ( because I have “experience” ) and they want me to come off from orientation in 2 weeks from now!! Help, what can you advice me?

I am interested in moving to Puerto Rico with my RN/BSN credentials and my spanish isnt the best. Was this a barrier for you or perhaps you are a fluent speaker? Wondering how much English is spoken in the healtcare settings, mainly hospitals, in PR. Any advice and experience would be SO MUCH APPRECIATED! Also, is it true that in PR nurses dont barely make anything, and are broke and unable to pay for cost of living. How was it for you? Where were you working (home health, doctors office, hospital, school nurse) and about how much were you getting paid?

Anybody there with me to re-enter after a 10 yrs gap? I really don't know where to start. Start from the scratch it seems. Some people said to redo the entire course again . I am not gonna do that I'm looking forward to another option .Hopefully it works for me. Will see and will Never give up.

I left the unit 20 years ago but I participated in a number of surgical missions over 15 yrs. I just completed a RN Refresher program Jan 2023. This included 1 month of didactic and 30 hrs of clinical hours (each state has different requirements for clinical hours.). The didactic portion was particularly heavy, but clinicals were invigorating. Hopefully I can take the NCLEX before it changes April 1, 2023.

I find your lectures extremely helpful! I’m 55 yo and have had a 10 year absence from nursing and my primary field for 14 years was hospice. I became ill and had to go on disability, but would like to return. Have Been studying for the last 2 1/2 months and still find it hard to keep it all in my head. I’m using the Kaplan system in addition to your lectures and because I let my lLet my license lapse I have to take the NCLEX exam again and the last time I took it was 28 years ago and it was given twice a year and it was all multiple-choice and a two day session. My question to you is actually I don’t know what my question is I’m just terrified right now that I won’t be able to pass this test. Most of the kids are coming straight out of college and I graduated from nursing school28 years ago and things of change so drastically. I guess I’m looking for some affirmation or for some guidance on Proceed in my preparation for this test. Sorry this is been so long but I appreciate any and all suggestions.

Hello Judith! Thank you so much for watching the videos. I just wanted to give you some encouragement and say you really got this. I know it is so overwhelming having to think about taking NCLEX since you have left the field, but Kaplan is really good. I always recommend them or Saunders. In addition, I suggest you also practice LOTS and LOTS of NCLEX style questions. This is really the thing that helped me the most. I know some people use UWorld along with Kaplan or Saunders....I've never used them but some other students say they are great. When you practice questions always go back and read the rationales and then read the material in the review guides for the questions you got wrong or guessed on. Just try to do this everyday up until you test. I wish you the best and don't be intimidated because you are at a great advantage with your nursing experience and knowledge going into this test....remember most students who are taking the exam don't have this experience....so use this to your advantage. Best wishes to you :)
