Tips for riding an electric unicycle 

I learned very quickly and learned extremely quickly how painful it is to fall at higher speed. No videos to learn at that time! Well done guys!

I was over 70 years old when I started learning and the main problem was I didn’t want to crash, after a few of those I got with the program and have a great time with my transportation.

Much better than I did. It took me 3 months to learn to ride an EUC. I was so used to going sideways on a onewheel and electric longboard that I had to rewire my brain to feel forward = go. Also, I learned on a Z10. Probably not the best starter wheel.

Well done, Harry. Of all the EUC tutorial videos I've seen on RU-vid, I don't think anyone has recommended to put the foot on a slight angle. Good to finally have a video from the Speedy Feet crew.

Nice one guys, as an absolute beginner I can relate to this. As opposed to a pro explaining how to ride. Good to take lesson from all levels but reassuring to see someone crashing into walls and things almost as good as I’m getting.

Harry has the exact same helmet as I bought off you, even the same colours :-). On the NInebot One E+, it's a tradition, I am working on Carbon Fiber Foot Plates for mine. The prototypes are complete, will be printing the real deal very soon. I so, so, so, remember that feeling :-) I had my Ninebot One E+ covered in furniture foam, when I was doing this. I'm such a fan of that wheel. 3hrs and riding while filming - I hate you!

As a guy who figured it out just today and moved my first couple of meters without falling, get a big open stage for learning it. It helps a LOT! I just went out on a football field and it was so great to not worry about hitting the walls.

Welcome back speedy feet Personally I learned the best way to teach someone is just motivate them to be calm and patient while letting them know that they truly know how to lean and balance and it’s the same thing on a wheel, then make them lean forward right when they get on the wheel so they immediately become less wobbly and once you get moving the confidence goes way up and they realize it’s not actually that hard. Taught about 5 people and they all picked it up in about 5-10 mins, sometimes less it’s wild , took me 30-45 mins but I had no help and just winged it

Not to nitpick but I think the gyro is engaged at all times and it's just lack of any forward/backward momentum that makes side to side balancing so hard, just like with a bike :) Great job learning Harry and Mario for teaching!

I remember when I first got my wheel. It was so Beautiful. And then I remember attempting to ride. It wasn't as beautiful teaching yourself to learn how to ride. I also remember the moment I got it. Everything has changed since. Never ride without wrist guards, ever. Wear a helmet and other protective gear. Practice and Enjoy your Journey.

I got my king song S22 pro when I was 72. I could not afford a training wheel. The roads were pebbles and dirt. I'm up and touring now. A unicycle is way cooler than a standard gofer that old men sit on.

I had a fairly hard time learning. I got moving fairly quick, but in terms of being competent and trusting the wheel, it took a week or so to click. I’ve biked a lot in my life, I can balance without moving a long time, but for me the big thing was really trusting it to lean out there and get moving quickly. And doing slow tight turns was weird for a while. I’ve had one time in owning my first wheel it fell like in this video, but that was slipping out on pine needles. I always erred on the side of grabbing the wheel stepping off.

one important tip is you gatta find a more opened space cause you will then have more time to focus on how to ride and turn than worrying about hitting the wall and nearby stuff. I brought two of my friends to try euc on a basketball court and they both were able to ride it within 3 hours

I don't know irl but that tyre seemed a bit on the flat side. I found that having more pressure in the tyre helps the learning process at first cuz you're not dealing with the wiggiliness of the rubber. That's a word right, wiggiliness?😀

I didn't realise you could buy footrest attachment wheels for learning & stability, so I made my own. An empty tennis court was a great place to practice, just going round and round. I realised that wheel wobble could be prevented by filling any gap between upper leg and EUC. So, for a Gotway MSX, I cut 2 lengths from a foam swimming noodle, then cut them again to a D shape cross-section and fitted horizontally to EUC just below handle height. Your legs then comfortably hug the wheel and stop wheel wobble... at minimal cost!

I don't know how many actual training hours I had before learning to balance, and a few more before learning how to mount, but it took me a whole month 😅 and turning to right comfortably took another week or two 😅 I was just doing figure eights to practice turning.

But your wife was a ringer, IIRC, don't let him compare himself to her🤣. I had really good success using ski poles to get started and especially stopping. After a while I simply didn't need the poles anymore. 👍shoulder support.

I just got one and find it very hard to learn. Specially to mount. You make it look easier but its not.

I've found the easiest way to teach someone to ride electric unicycle is with a supermarket trolley once they get used to the sensation of standing up riding and turning while pushing it, helps them learn quicker and balance easier🤔🤔🤔🥳🥳🥳

If you spend 30min/day, how many days will it take to be able to ride it? I'm assuming it's much easier than learning to snowboard? How does it compare to learning to ride a hoverboard?

I have some gears now, so I will step out of our yard lol. I can ride well yet, maybe 3 meters max last I tried. But, I won’t give up after spending this much lol, no way

Definitely one of the best teaching videos I've seen. In my learning days I made the fatal mistake of listening to people about holding on to fixed objects, man was that a handicap to overcome. Mario did a great teaching job here!

Wow... extremely dangerous place to practice... full of glasses around... you should try it in a open space... like an empty parking lot or sth...

Clarification - there's no significant gyroscopic effect on an EUC. Instead, an EUC will steer (turn) when it's tilted due to camber effect, and at sufficient speed, like 6 to 8 mph in the case of my V8F, if a rider keeps his feet relatively level so the EUC tilts as much as the rider leans due to imbalance, the camber effect steers into direction of fall sufficiently to correct for small imbalances. If a rider attempts to remain vertical with pressure at the feet, this will tilt the EUC so that it steers in to direction of fall, a somewhat natural response that is a form of counter-steering (steer more inwards to lean less inwards), but this depends on the riders sense of balance (looking straight ahead, not down, helps). Watching the video, sometimes the new rider has one foot against the wheel, the other foot on the outer edge of the foot plate, which creates a balance issue, despite being told to keep both ankles against the wheel. Using a wall to mount and get feet positioned correctly on the pedals before attempting to launch would avoid the issues of free mounting and stepping on in a bad foot position, although in some cases, it's his right foot that isn't against the EUC. The instructor demonstrates riding at slow speed with arms extended, which is arm flailing | yaw steer: flailing arms left to steer right and vice versa, in order to steer into direction of fall for balance at low speeds, but doesn't explain how to do this to the new rider, which would have helped, as extended arms is generally helpful for beginners. Learning to bail or step off from the EUC when losing balance and having enough space to bail without sending the EUC or the rider into a wall (a more open space would have been better) would have reduced the number of falls. In my case, I watched how to ride videos, and the advice to steer left and right for balance instead of trying to just go straight. I used a screened fence (essentially a wall) for support, did the rock back and forth drills, and some short rides using the fence for about 20 minutes. I then ventured away from the fence using arm flailing | yaw steer and was able to do laps at 3 to 5 mph around a tennis court on my first attempt. After a second session at the tennis court the next day, I moved to a long and fairly wide straight (outdoor one street wide parking lot), still using support to mount and launch, where I found my V8F became stable at 6 to 8 mph, where I didn't have to focus on balance. This wasn't a "it just clicked" moment, but instead just going fast enough for the V8F to become stable. Leaning forward | backwards to accelerate | brake wasn't an issue. Tilt steering (inner foot down, outer foot up) was next, first to see how V8F would respond, then some weaving, then large radius turns. 2 days later, I tried free mounting and got it on my third try. It was my only time on grass, and I didn't lean forwards enough on my first two tries to compensate for the grass. I did drills where I would lean then tilt steer inwards enough to correct the lean for balance, or just enough to hold the lean for a coordinated turn. Over time I learned how to coordinate how much to lean versus how much to tilt the EUC, depending on speed and turning radius, and became able to move arms and|or look around without upsetting balance or changing direction. Somewhere between 1 to 2 months, tilt steering with my feel felt as natural as riding a bike.

Stager your feet. Not identical
