I loved that someone who uses healthy ingredients taught about saving money. Generally I skip such advice because cheap food makes me sick. I call paying extra $ for quality ingredients my health insurance.
Salad dressing: Dijon mustard, crushed garlic, crushed basil, s&p, balsamic vinegar (or raspberry vinegar) shake well. Let it sit. You will never miss the oil!
sometimes you can find things in like ross and marshalls or stores that them and you find their food area and they can be cheap depends on what you get.
I love that Jenna promoted eating real healthy food.I also like that she promoted the use of natural oils like Olive and avocado instead of the industrial seed oils like canola and soybean. She also pointed out all the additives of traditional peanut butter. Nice to see good natural salt like Himalayan. Too bad most doctors know less about nutrition than she does.
I agree with the quality clothes. I almost never buy new clothes anymore. Just a couple of things, or replacing an item that gets worn out. Another thing I do, is to remove the labels of the non-brand items, often they look "cheap". I also save the containers from an exclusive brand, like bodylotions etc, and I refill them with the cheaper products. The shopping for expensive items is often emotional or you love how the container looks. I put my laundry soap and softener in glass containers/Mason jars. Looks so much better.
I hung onto the pump bottle from the Method brand of grapefruit scented dish detergent - a one-time splurge. Now I refill it with Palmolive or Ajax (least expensive per ounce) dish detergent. I love having a pump dispenser in the kitchen instead of the bottle you have to grab and tip to dispense. A lot of those type bottles have the paper label that tends to deteriorate from getting wet. The Method pump dispenser doesn’t have the paper label, so it’s neater.
@ JAMIEKEWL23 - I joined Sam’s Club a couple of months ago. LOVE their gas prices! I buy mainly paper towels, facial tissue and bath tissue in the store. I might start buying Palmolive there.
@JAMIEKEWL23 - the savings on gas is worth the price of membership. When I joined in February, membership was $45, and they handed me a $45 gift card to spend in the store (bought the paper products I mentioned before). Gas is usually ten or as much as twenty cents cheaper than other stations in the area. I’m not the typical customer who leaves with a cart loaded with family sized packages of food. I prefer the normal sized packages that I get at Aldi or Walmart. I don’t have room to store the family sized packaging.
@JAMIEKEWL23 No gas station would be a deal breaker for me. When I was a member of BJ's, I drove out to one that I found had no gas station as well. I was surprised, I assumed all of them had gas stations. I gas up every week, only need paper products every six to eight weeks, so a warehouse club with a gas station is a must.
During the summer I will buy fruits and veggies in bulk when on sale or farmers market and process it and flash freeze at home. I do the same with half of my home grown produce. Also don’t forget that you can use your air fryer as a dehydrator. Especially great for drying herbs.
I think a good way to minimize cost on clothing while keeping good quality is trying a capsule wardrobe. I absolutely love it! Keeps me in check when going shopping. I actually wear everything I buy and love each and every piece in my closet. Plus I have way less but better quality.
I have watched a lot of food saving money videos, I have to say this one was the best! Healthy food, real information about where to get the items, including the price, without it being sponsored AND recipes/meal ideas included. Slam dunk, thank you!!
Those Kirkland brand shampoo and conditioners are AMAZING! When I moved to Hawaii my blonde hair was fried from the sun... A friend told me about Kirkland brand and it was like magic! And so cheap!
I love the Costco shampoo and conditioner, it's amazing stuff! So glad you mentioned that :) Thank you times a million for your awesome videos. God bless you!
Keebler Grasshoppers and Coconut dreams . . . same as Girl Scout cookies. I still buy GS during season to support them but when I get a hankering off season these are my go tos
I am so grateful for you and your father Dave Ramsey. I am learning so much from you both and am becoming so mindful, and accountable for my spending. I am improving and creating habit patterns that are allowing me to save, so I can live and give joyfully.... which I am doing as much as I can. As a chef, I have so many additional ways to help people and families save with food and grocery budget that are easy and enjoyable to do. It will also be wonderful for families because it includes recruiting the kids and bringing the family dynamic back together in wholesome living. I would love to email my list of recipes, tips, tricks, short cuts and kitchen hacks.... perfect for anyone..... even people who are intimidated by cooking. God bless you and happy new year! Where can I email this list?
Kirkland shampoo is the BEST!!!!!! It’s such a high quality shampoo. Everyone needs to try it. You’ll never go back. You’re welcome 😉 Btw I loooove Costco. Everyone needs to try their products. I trust it!
The pureology nano works ingredients are the same as the Kirkland’s brand! It’s not the same as the moisture purple pureology line. But the cost!!!!! Yassss! Love the Kirkland one and makes your hair feel and look amazing. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
I'm just watching this for first time. Really enjoying your show, Rachel. As a self employed massage therapist, you're spot on about shoes. Quality shoes for your feet is important, and sneakers should be changed out, especially if you notice wear on heels. This will protect your back and hips.
Water, electric, don't waste it, only use what you need. Cable? why do you use cable in 2019? Fuel in car? Other than carpool I don't think she'll have an answer for you, if you own a gas hog there's no way around it. That's my 2 cents
Have some tips for you if you wanna save fuel. Lift your foot off the gas long before intersections, look ahead and regulate with the gas pedal instead of the break. (Can be summarized as use the break as little as possible as you turn your gas into heat instead of motion. Never idle longer then 6-10 seconds, remove any unnecessary cargo or weight from the car. Keep good distance to the car in front, don't accelerate fast. Decellerate uphill and accelerate down hill if possible. And drive at optimum speeds for many cars that is around 50. Depending on your driving stile and car this can save you 10-20 %
Depends on what you are buying, Salvation Army and Goodwill have really good deals on clothes and furniture and other household items, usually you are just paying more for the name. Get America's Cheapest Family to guest star on your show.
I am working on building up my quality clothing and totally agree on quality over quantity for most things. Have to disagree about jeans though because they just wear out on me due to how much I wear them, so I get the moderately priced ones that last about 2 years then repurpose the fabric in my sewing room for projects.
Rachel have you made a video discussing lowering the cost of feminine products? I couldn't find any. I've saved a ton of money using reusable pads but there are other products now that women don't know about.
I agree! Menstrual cups last up to 10 years for only $20-$30. There is a website with a quiz that'll direct you into the right cup for your specific body needs.
Dollar Tree has some fudge mint cookies that people say are almost identical to Girl Scout cookies. I don’t like chocolate with mint, so I can’t say from personal experience.
I rarely purchase winter coats keeping them for upwards 10-20 years but do add accessories such as new scarves, gloves etc as I live in Maine. I also have lots of coats and boots a pair of which is over 20 years old and still in great shape. I now work where I can wear jeans everyday so have 6 pairs and have several inexpensive dresses which I update with sweaters or shrugs depending on the weather ( dresses we're $10 at Walmart & are sleeveless ) Classic styles always look nice
This was great....thank you! I do many of these things already. Spending on a few quality pieces is important to me also. I have one designer work bag that I invested in and have used for over 3 years ...it often holds 2 laptops, wallet, shoes, lunches and more. It was worth the investment to me. For shoes and clothes I'll have one or two quality neutral items in each catagory (suit separates, shoes, jewelry, etc.) And then sub in less expensive/sale trendier pieces to dress up my wardrobe and make it look different. The one that always stumped me was saving my making your own almond milk. I can buy store brand organic almond milk 64oz for under $2 every day (multiple stores here have it). I guess maybe it's just a lot more expensive in other places?
I save so much money with clothes I buy on sale + add coupons and sometimes I’m even able to use cash back . I spent less than 5 dollars with shirts and jeans.
Love Kirkland brand! I also buy cheap furniture and/or Facebook marketplace free furniture and redo, up cycle , stain, paint, and /or reupholster it and make it look in style and high end!
@@TheLauraFantoneBaca I'm not sure on the difference in taste, I think it's just easier on the blender maybe? I used cheesecloth to strain mine and that worked well too. I'll have to invest in some nut bags. I love taking the pulp and drying it out to make homemade almond flour!
I was a translator with many international clients. I know through my career that when you pay for a brand, you are paying for the image they sold you not for the product itself. Products are *almost* the same made by a holding/mother company owning all of the other brands you think are in competition with each other. It's a deliberate marketing tactic making you think you have choice based on how individual you are while they are selling the same thing in different colours. For example, professional Caucasian middle-class ladies get the advertising campaign with Nicole Kidman in it and pay $300 and the colour scheme is hues of magnolia and ''antique pink'', then the product is rebranded with another ''hip'' image for the urban community getting J-Lo to advertise for it for $100 after changing some characteristics (fragrance is one of them like changing from petonia to rose fragrance which costs only half a penny extra for example) and the colour scheme is gold. Then finally, the product is rebranded again for $30 and targeted at the younger community with Mylie Cyrus and a girl power thing going on, etc etc, until it hits Walmart or Costco for a dollar with no branding at all for ''poor people''. The biggest irony is that when I started shopping for food by ingredients not by brand name, I found that some of the cheapest non-brands out there had the healthiest ingredients. My granola is the cheapest white box on the shelf. It has no sugar and no preservatives LOL The general idea is that if it's not sweet enough and doesn't last long after the customer opens the packet, that will make people think of it as an inferior product because most people don't read ingredients. My favourite store-own fish fingers have more fish mince than the leading brand, the cheapest burger I buy has real onions in the mince not rehydrated power (that requires adding an anticaking agent), fine sea salt has anticaking agent because people aren't bothered to buy a grinder and twist their wrists a couple of times! There are branding companies earning millions because they know they can count on our vanity, ego, and laziness. I have known about the branding hoax since late 1990s.
Thank you for sharing🙏❤ For a while every time I go shopping I try to read the labels and not to overpay for branded things knowing how marketing and psychology work.
More dollar tree items...love their gift bags...I buy AHEAD....never regret doing this....and dishes....Sometimes, they have some AMAZING dishes, there...cards...they have beefed up their card section....Hallmark got involved...trying to stock up for VBS...check DOLLAR TREE , first.😁🤗😁
I scored some gorgeous Badgley Mishka d'Orsay pumps on ebay. Some low black heels that are comfortable. And then some higher white heels that are full-on d'Orsay. I got the first pair for 65, the second pair for 100. But let me tell you, whenever I put either of these on, I feel like a million bucks! Each of them have very tiny flaws, but no one can spot them when you're not looking up close.
So true. I switched to weekly meal planning and buying only what I need for the week making sure I plan to use all leftovers too. It makes a huge difference. Also, stick to interchangeable staples. If a recipe calls for an unusual ingredient, substitute it for something you have and will use (Google for options), otherwise you end up with half used jars of things going to waste.
I buy Sound Body toiletries from Big Lots. And I only buy when they have family and friends VIP sale 20% off so double savins since it's a discount store. They even have $3 off for every $10 spent on Unilever products like Dove and P & G. I also buy at Food 4 Less instead of Ralph's. I install Flipp app where all circulars are uploaded each week so I know beforehand what is on sale for every grocery store. Sometimes Vons will have 2 dozen toilet paper for $ 5 so I stock up. I use Sun for laundry.
I have winter coats ( live in Maine ) for close to 20 years same with Winter boots, scarves, gloves - I keep them for forever I even have second hand dresses I bought in 2006 it is now 2019 so those dresses are @ least 14 years old - buy nice and keep em
I just made the switch to the Kirkland signature shampoo and conditioner and I love it! It's half the price per ounce of what I was using and it does seem to make my hair softer and cleaner!
B Melt I feel one has to compare quantity and price point, in order, to see benefit. For example, at Walmart big pack of wipes are like $2 ish. Costco is way over priced on baby wipes. Like $16 for a box. U can get same amount for less at Walmart.
I found a pair of jeans at a thrift store the brand was MOSCHINO the price for those on the moschino website is 500 dollars and I found them for 6.79 dollars.... i called the costumer service and yes they are original moschino ... i feel like a winner
Would you please do a Sam's Club dupes segment similar to the Costco one? We only have a Sam's Club in our city. Now I'm wondering about Wal Mart Equate and Target brands too. 🤔 Thank you!
@@bghany9695 Thanks for the info, and yes, I agree! I was just wondering if there were some sneaky exact dupe formulas like the Pureology one at Costco.
I like to buy Equate’s version of the Advil Liqui-Gels. Hard to find them in any other generic version besides Equate. Might be that Advil also makes the Equate version.
Check-out ThredUp for clothes! I got a BRAND NEW WITH TAGS pair of Paige jeans for $42 originally $190. I also got a pair for $80 from Nordtrom's Rack originally $150. The quality is amazing.
Hey Rachel! I LOVE spending money on clothes also and my sister-in-law just taught me a neat shopping trick for Belk. I like getting clothes, but I also like getting deals so I usually shop on the cheaper side (like walmart, ross, target, etc.) But like you, I realized that the cheaper brands left me spending MORE because the quality was not good. So I started shopping the Belk clearance racks (the red sale signs that are all over the store that say the prices are anywhere between 2.99-9.99). Before I knew the trick, I wasn't happy with the sections because the price tags indicated that more than the price on the rack. BUT those red prices written on the tag are NOT the final prices.. You have to scan the clothes and then you will see that there really are great quality brands for 2.99, 4.99. even $1! I went shopping the other day and spent $40. I shopped crown & ivy, new direction, Kim Rogers, etc. I bought 8 full outfits. My receipt said I saved $358!! So for people who want to save on their clothes, but want clothes that will last, shop belk clearance! I can't shop anywhere else now!
Love these tips and your channel. We have decided to create our own channel after completing FPU. We should be debt free by next April! These tips will come in handy to get us there. Thank you for being such an inspiration.
It's important to know your unit price (how many $ per ounce, per pound, etc). Walmart has Dollar Tree beat when it comes to basic cleaning supplies like dish soap, alcohol, peroxide, and vinegar. Walmart: $0.97-0.98/32 oz. bottle. DT: $1/32 oz. bottle Best multipurpose cleaner that costs only pennies: 1 c. Water 1/4 c. Alcohol 1 tsp. Dish soap
Yeah that dollar tree one... They are probably spending a dollar on .50 worth of cleaning product. It's just you don't run out monthly. But if they priced it by ounce I doubt they are ahead. =S
Buy the Aldi-brand cookies and donate a five dollar bill to your local Girl Scout troop. A five dollar donation to that GS troop is the equivalent of buying 7-8 boxes.
@@Ms.T....7004 My daughters' girl scout troops received 65 cents per box sold this past year. It might vary by state or you have a cheat for a cookie mom.
When alvocados get ripe put it in the fridge or freeze with some lemon or lime juice. Same with celery which you can use in soups, stews, chilies, and smoothies.
I have a real leather moto jacket for $199 during Nordstrom's annual sale. I love Sam Edleman and I get them half price on sale. I wait overnight almost always and I almost always do not buy. I love Lucite and get mine on sale at Alexis Bittar.
I tried it on a whim once because I didn't want to go to another store... I've never gone back!!! Best part is if you don't like it... Costco will give you your money back!!!
I am the same. I buy fewer clothing but I buy quality. I look for basic colors that I can mix and match. I will buy the best quality in my shoes, my bras and my eyes (exams and eye glasses.) I cannot replace my feet or my eyes. I have five pairs of shoes only and Keenes fit my narrow heels and wide toebox best. I only have these 1) Keene waterproof hiking boots for walking the dog, hiking and outdoor exploring 2) black sandles (for summer dressier days) 3) short anle lenght black leather Keene boots for jeans with a nice safety base for ice and snow (I live in snowy Michigan and age 70 I have to watch that I do not slip and fall and break a hip) 4) a pair of sneakers for my exercise classes 5) A pair of knee high black boots for dressy/winter. That is it. That's is all I need. Keens are fairly expensive (About $135.00 plus orthodicits for plantar fascioisitus)) but they last and last. And they fit COMFORTABLY too!
There isn't a Costco in my whole state! Nearest one would be a 7 hour drive - each way! I mostly enjoy this channel but I'd like to say that not everyone has kids/family, 20% of women don't have kids. So it would be great not to target every single episode towards families. The rest of us watch, too.
Fj Fj I beg to differ. It’s almost more difficult because buying food in bulk for a single person can equal a lot of wasted food. Besides, I don’t think she was saying that Rachel should only do videos for single people, just asked for another video focused on single people. God Bless! 😇
@@sammyc8217 "Almost more difficult" is the same as saying it is easier. The problem is that Rachel is married with a family and mostly speaks from her own personal experience.
i get one haircut a year. one. for years i went to hair cuttery and paid the $20-30 or whatever and always got a horrible haircut - uneven, choppy, not in style... this year i actually went to a nice salon and spent $85 and got a haircut i actually liked. my mom immediately told me that was a waste of money and i should be paying off my debt. so is that $50/year really not worth it???
If you only get your hair cut once or twice a year than $50 isn’t bad as long as you like the cut. If you get it cut more than that then it would be pretty costly.
Mossy Oak Mom Haha I Used to go to the Cosmetology/Hair cutting schools for my cheap haircuts...at the time I believe they were like $20 or less. I will never again...2x they messed up....cheap is not always good.
If you don’t have your health you can’t have a good quality of life! So I buy organic non gmo food also I buy products that are all natural no chemicals there is no way I’m going to take a short cut with my health so due you have any suggestions for that and money?
😁 oh mothers who take care of our kids more than ourcellves! I have to share: I paid to get a new haircut...the previous person to cut my hair was me! Everyone conpliments my personal hair cut but this professional hair cut has people continuously saying things. I get confirmation from mycellf, my hubby, kids and parents BUT it sure is nice to get some from strangers. TREAT YOURCELLF...every once in a while. Another thing cheap I do is buy a charcoal mask once a month. Its my home spa with my feet in epsom salt. You can bean even better excitedversion of yourcellf with some truth and celkf-care. Luh yuh
@@briannadunlap8200 so true, my self treat is my nails. I can't afford getting my nails done at a shop and even when i did they lift very quickly on me. i came across some RU-vid videos about getting them to last 2 weeks and out worked. i buy the 100 pack (some times they have the bonus of 200) of kiss at Wal-Mart comes with glue and watch for kiss glue at dollar tree.
That’s funny. I consider an investment piece something of actual quality, I suppose that’s based on perspective. When she said she saved I thought she meant something over $1,000. A faux leather Zara jacket?
Lol I wear hoodies is that would be a step up for me. However; 3 winters ago I splurged on a coat that has 3 different functions (liner jacket, rain coat, or winter jacket). I think I bought it from a Burlington coat factory. Under 50 bucks but that was big for me....no rips no tares and fully functional years later. You are completely right...perspectives. Then again I am a commercial cleaner at night. So I only wear super nice things to family events or a business meeting unlike her traveling my all the time. Love your perapectuve sis! 😘💚😁
Pinklm 08 Absolutely! And the thing is, we vote with our money and purchasing fast fashion is encouraging that type of consumption. I love consignment shops, such as The RealReal. There’s no shame in buying used high quality items. Even going to Goodwill, etc. acquiring items that fit your budget, style and are (generally) of better quality.
The Kirkland and Pureology shampoos have different ingredients and are not the same. The Kirkland shampoo is still a great option, I love it for my children, but I could tell a difference in the health of my hair when I tried to make the switch.
