Hi. I just wanted to say that this video really helped me. I'm a high school student & felt anxiety about picking a major. I enjoyed hearing your advice & experiences with deciding a major. I hope life is going well for you.

I’m an incoming freshman next year and I chose “Music Education” (band) as my major. I’ve been questioning if it’s my passion or I’ve just been so indulged for so long (since 6th grade). I was one of the few seniors at my high school who got to intern this past year. After a year of interning with my band directors, I still chose to major in it. I’m not sure if in just super nervous for the transition to college, etc, but I guess we’ll just have to see…

Taking classes will help for sure! Make sure to try as many different classes as you can. You got this!!!!

I’m a high school student. I have always been interested in the food science field but chemistry stopped me from pursuing the path. Now i have been thinking about data analytic which seems to be great for my future career as math is my strength tho I don’t really like the this field that much. Do you think i should really go for this path ?

do you recommend taking that freshmen year comp sci class you mentioned if we haven't coded extensively before? thanks!

CS170 is the "intro" class but it's honestly pretty hard. I've been coding for a while and I had to put quite the effort into the class. Only take the class if you aren't taking that many other hard classes and are willing to put MANY stressful hours into it -- I've had friends calling me and crying because they couldn't get through homework. I don't mean to scare you from CS because obviously I love it, but I think its a fair warning.

@@hello-sjc In this case do you recommend using the AP credit to opt out of CS 170 and take CS 171? Thanks :)

@@yw6157 It's up to you. CS 170 is super tedious but not conceptually hard. CS 171 on the other hand is an intro to data structures and algorithms. I had friends who got a 5 on the AP and struggled a lot in 171 - mostly because it's not supposed to be an easy class. Since it is the first semester of college, brushing up by starting in 170 is not a bad idea. If you really feel as though you have a strong foundation, jump into 171. My foundation was a bit shaky so taking 170 was right for me. All up to you and what you're willing to put in for your first class.

Have you ever met anyone who triple majored in Emory? If so, how did they feel about it?
@hello-sjc

You can't triple major in Emory - the school won't allow it. You either major, major+minor, or double major

Hi, I'm a high school student and I have a lot of fields that im interested on, I have made a list to limit them and to think clearly and i end up with about 5 totally different fields):, any tips? Someone have suggested to me to try Edx courses in each field but I don't feel that's enough to judge a whole major

talk to people within the major currently at different schools. Talk to people who have graduated with the major and see what they're up to. To be honest, don't worry to much about your major while you're in college - the person you are now is not exactly who you will be in a year or a couple years.
