Great, planting them close to each other is a beneficial strategy. You are a terrific gardener. Subbed & liked.

Also keep them well watered, lots of water. And fed My cabbages were sown four months ago. They're massive. All I did was give them a good soaking every other day

The reason I was looking for a collyflower video is that I accidentally grown it and found out today that the cabbage plug plants I planted in October (UK) turned out to be something else. A neighbour suggested I eat leaves as no heads appeared up to mid May and I needed the space for 🍅. So me and all neighbours have been cooking and eating what we believed were leafy cabbage. Haven't checked on the last three plants for couple of weeks and today I was going to cut the and compost them. But nice coliflower was in the middle. The leaves are good when cooked as well 🤣. Last year I have grown a red cabbage believing it was lettuce 🤣. what a twisted luck.

One of the good things about cauliflower is being able to eat the leaves too. So even you don't end up getting a good head on it, you still have some tasty produce to use.

Space them out more, for larger heads, other brassicas compete for same nutrients. Try beetroot, leeks, cellery , beans, fennel, garlic, as good companion plants. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you you answered my question. When I cut the cauliflower head, I was wondering if they were like broccoli and have shoots out the side for a second small harvest

I was successful for really the 1st time this yr & waited to long to harvest 6 big heads could kick myself, hoping I can salvage @ least a meal from them. Thanks also for the tips, very helpful.

That's too bad! But hopefully you can get something out of them. We had a hot dry summer here and mine didn't do as well this year either, and my best one I did the same thing and waited too long to harvest.

@@oneseedoneworld thank you ! I have never grown veggies before so I'm loving having a space to do this - and I hope the birds or snails don't get them first. I've built a hoop house, but it won't cover all my beds :) Wait and see !

@@SelfEvolutionHypnotherapy the hoophouse should definitely help. My biggest issue is the cabbage moth/worms which is a battle every year :)

@oneseedoneworld
@oneseedoneworld Год назад
It depends on how cold your winters are. Cauliflower grows best in temps that range from 10 C to 21 C.

You can use an organic slow release fertilizer or a good compost, bunny manure, etc., to help the plant along.

I’ve been able to harvest heads of broccoli. My cauliflower isn’t heading yet. Is that the way it normally is
@oneseedoneworld
@oneseedoneworld 2 месяца назад
Cauliflower will develop large leaves before the head starts to set so that could be it. But it also needs cool weather to start heading as well. If your weather has been warmer, it may just develop large leaves until cooler weather comes. Other things you can try to help it along (if temperature isn't a problem), is making sure it is getting enough fertilizer (I used an organic fish/seaweed liquid fertilizer in water). Also make sure watering is consistent, as cauliflower doesn't like it when the soil dries out). Hope that helps!
