This was an excellent video with great tips! :) Poptart is the perfect little model and I can't get over how friendly he is. Also, that mug is cute! :D

Well 6 years later I actually found this useful cause I just got a Hamster.I didn’t know how to literally hold a dwarf hamster and I got a grey dwarf thanks Victoria!!
I bought a Chinese hamster in August this year. Mistake #1 - Buying a " recommended" cage. Too small. My hamster spent a month or more nervous and always hiding.I bought a tray storage bin. It measured 44 1/2 in. long x 19 in. x 6 in. The change was immediate. He had " room" to be a hamster. Now he's hand fed , held, totally unafraid. So get a large bin for your buddy. Nothing but the best!
my dwarf hamsters either buried themselves or hid in super hard to reach spots whenever I'd open the cage door, and they are INSANELY fast and slippery, that being said, I've only hold them like 3 times ever, and all of those times were only for like 2 seconds. It's crazy seeing other people's hamsters just chilling and letting people hold them and stuff.
Oh man. Watching this makes me really sad. My male dwarf hamster died yesterday and im crazy sad about it. I didnt go to school today bc im really miserable
Thanks for the advice! I am getting a dwarf hamster tomorrow! I recently had a Syrian hamster named sunshine who passed not to long ago😭 she is my user photo btw
Even though I just got a dwarf hamster yesterday, I've been watching your videos a lot longer. Your tip have helped me so much so far. Now the cage and bedding is perfect, I have a really happy hamster. He hasn't bit me once, and thanks to you, I know how to give him a long and happy life. :-D
I know this was posted a while ago, but my long hair syrian, Sue, died this past valentines day. I understand what youre going through, and hope you feel better knowing someone understands what you feel.
Hi I just wanted to say I got a hamster 2 years ago and I watched this video and it really helped me to take care of my hamster but I found out she passed away yesterday and I just wanted to thank you and she lived a long live 💗
I was doing the one with cupping with ur hands and it jumped out my hands and it fell down the table Idk if he likes me anymore when I get close he runs away
I tried to get my hamster to get used to my hand but she thought it was food and nibbled me 😂😭 Tiniest bit scared to hold her incase she actually wants to eat me haha
I know this comment is 9months old but I like to hold my hamster popeye and he just nibbles...alot and has only ever bit once when we showed him there are dangers in my house like the cat
You should try and tame it in a space that it won’t fall on the ground (if it jumps off your hand). I have been using my bathtub with a blanket over the drain and a couple seeds in my hand to tame it in a safe space! It takes a lot of patience but they will come around eventually :) I wish you luck
Winter white hamsters are always so calm!! They are the size of a dwarf! If you want a calm dwarf hamster you can hold, get a winter white! They are super sweet and rarely bite! Robo hamsters seem like they are on drugs, and are SUPER hyper
These are great tips, I use a lot of those for syrians too! I've honestly never used a mug although I see the benefit to it for sure :) My favourite is the cupping/scooping method. I generally wait for Scarlet to come out then scoop her up with both hands so she feels safe. She is more shy than darling Chandler but is doing a great job of warming up to me! :) Poptart you are such a little darling!
Aww beautiful dwarf 🥰 I have a wee winter White russian dwarf and he's so friendly he loves when I wear hoodies and he rolls about my hair and hood and likes to curl up in my sleeves and pockets .. they are pretty fast lol as soon as I bring him out and sit down he runs into my hood to roll about it 🥰🥰
I have a Russian dwarf hamster and he is normally very calm he always like to sit on my shoulders and eat he never bites and enjoys playtime nice video 😀
I love your channel Victoria! I’ve been subscribed ever since I adopted a dwarf hamster. Unfortunately she was living in a metal cage wheel… yes a giant wheel. I eventually discovered her leg was infected but I gave her Veterciyn and it got much better. Your videos encouraged me to get her a better home. She’s doing much better now. Wish you would create an updated dwarf hamster video! You make learning fun! 😅❤️🐹
Thank you so much for these tips! I always see people hold their hamsters without them running away or biting you, but whenever I try to do the same with any of my three hamsters they nearly got loose. Now I can comfortably hold one of my hamsters in my hands. The other two are still pretty stubborn 😆 (The cupping method definitely works the best in my opinion)
U are a great inspiration for other hamster loving people, who might not be as informed as u! I have learned so much from ur channel, and even though I have kind and loving intentions, I am not up to snuff on the latest, and safest products...just a quick thank you...and hammies are adorable! :-D
I love watching the hamster explore on your hands. I tend to say that the hamster and other rodents the way they move their heads, noses and whiskers that they "nose around." Not all animals move their faces like that but I see other kinds of rodents do these cute little facial movements.
Mine simply does not want you to reach in to her house she’ll transfer to a cup and then from the cup will go in your hand and she will never bite but if you stick your hand in that cage you’re gonna lose fingers LOL
I got a new dwarf hamster and he is so tiny! These videos are super helpful and I'd like to make him become more used to me so I can hold him easier :)
Same. 😂 I got my Cambell Dwarf for quite a while now and mine was not really tamed well, it already bitten me i think about 5-6 times trying to tame it. 😂
@@ferreranthonyolivero.8474 same!! i have a campbell. Yesterday was fine when i smelled me but today i tried hand feeding and he bit me REALLY HARD it bled a lot!! But i think my hands smells like meal worm which i just fed him so thats why. But boooooyyy my hand is numb
Thank you so much! I have a Russian dawrf hamster named Millie and I was having trouble taming her until I discovered the cup method! Now she is tamed and loves to play with me! She always gets exited when I put my hand in the cage to let her climb on. Thanks so much!!!
I'm about to get a dwarf hamster and these tips really help so I'm prepared for it because I get really nervous. Pop Tart is the perfect hamster hopefully I will get one just like him/her!!!
Mine always bites me when I hold out my hand. So I used her little house to kinda scoop her up. I don’t force her. I put I by her then if she doesn’t want to come out I stop trying but if she does want to come out then I scoop her up and let her walk on my hand. I use your method of letting her explore because ,unless she’s tired, she’s usually really hyper👍🏼 THANKS for the info🙂
I have only just got my hamster's yesterday surprisingly they have settled in very quick they have all they need and they are super FAST like you said and tysm for the tip's x
my roborovski is terrified of my hands when i put them in his cage, so i have to coax him out and it takes ages because he's so shy but as soon as i put him into his play pen box thing he'll climb over my hands and be really friendly and everything, how can i solve this? also, we've started letting him out in the living room to run about freely and he is so fast and timid, he never comes towards us! is he happy? :(
+Chloe Mason That happened to me and my Roborovski hamster he probably is happy and you can us a cup or something to put them in but if you keep putting your hand in his cage more often he will get used to it in his cage. If he doesn't then that might just be his personality or he might be a bit scared because you are in his territory but he should be fine. And for letting him out in the living room you can buy a ball for him to run around places and he will be fine and he might get more comfortable with you because you can't really harm him so he thinks he is safe. Trust me i have done this with my hamster and it worked on her so I think it will work on your hamster too. Good Luck !
+BubbleGum Cupcakes yeah we have a ball and he goes in it most nights and he runs freely and runs into my legs and stuff but it's more just when he's completely out
Chloe Mason keep going, take it real slow. If he comes to your hands at all, it is possible to tame him. It may even take several months, but it all will be ok 😊
Can you tame the hamster by using the cup method cause my pearl winter white I tried to tame it with treats on my hand and I lift him up he kept hissing so I left him alone
Can someone help me? So my russian dwarf always hides in its burrow and whenever I try to pick him up he bites me. I think it has something to do with me not having enough money to get him a bigger house and getting him an exercise wheel and things
What is the size of your enclosure?:) if its under the minimum I would suggest talking with your parents and explaining the issue to them. For example, a bin cage or a old aquarium from craigslist can be quite cheap and maybe you can also find some hamster toys secondhand? Your hamster should really have a running wheel in the proper size...
+Foxy ThePirateFox Aww well Im sure he knew you loved him very much and appreciated the time he had with you. He is also probably in a better place now or atleast... not suffering. And is thankful for your love and care. Dont be sad.
I pick up my hamsters with a cardboard tube it's use to it and two of my hamsters let me hold them now not the new white hamster because it just came so yeah.....Thanks!!
That cage looks pretty small compared to my hamster's cage/ the 2018 victoria recommended cage but the main thing is that her hamster care got better 😀
I just got 2 dwarf hamsters today! And I'm so exited she is so small and she is still a baby dwarf hamster thanks so much! I love you so much I've been watching you for so long i love uuu my first time getting a dwarf hamster
+ChocolateColors26 hi I love vids check out vids I just got a dwarf named snow flake she is a robo and I want to show you it so can you check out video it would cool
All of ur hamsters videos help me a lot. I have 2 hamsters Shadow and Julian both boys and Russian dwarfs. Shadow is fast more like an explorer. Julian is kinda laxy but still luvs running. Exellent job!
I don't really agree with the mug, because then they don't really have that much human contact which leads to trust issues and not being tamed. Also, you should have already built up a strong enough bond for you to put your hand in the cage and pick the hamster up. But that's just me.
