Great tips for getting tomatoes ripened indoors as always left with lots of green tomatoes at the end of growing season here in UK as it is very short growing season.
Those ones u say are bad do u throw them away or do u cut bad spot off and use the rest I would cut bad spot off and use the rest if possible or compost them
Oh your tomatoes looks so beautiful I haven't even planted one tomato this year it's just now starting to warm up a little bit here still been a little bit on the chilly side. That's a big problem here is that we have that terrible vowel virus here and I'm afraid to go out into any of that Home Depot's and Lowe's to purchase a tomato and I don't want to get seats because that's a lot of effort when I only need three or four tomato plants for the year just me and grandpa live here so I don't need a bunch of tomato plants.
Thanks for watching. I understand you can plant whatever you like or eat. We eat lots of fresh tomatoes as salad, use in curries and sauces. I do freeze a lot as well. Thankfully I don't get much pests on my tomato plants otherwise it is really horrible to deal with them.
I just wanted to ask if you ever have tried to grow tomatoes in the ground. This year I thought that I would grow tomatoes in the ground, is it possible here in uk?. How much distance is it for each plant then?
Yes, just amend the planting hole with compost and fertiliser. The plants in the ground need less watering and fertilizing than in container. Keep an eye on when the top inch of soil is dry then water. Fertilise again when the plants start flowering. Or follow the instructions on a fertiliser package.
Thanks for your comment. I believe gardeners exercise different practices and it is mainly the case for whatever works for you. Removing lower leaves mainly help with air circulation and exposing the fruit for more sun. Anf its not the case that I will remove all the leaves at once. I generally remove leaves when a fruit set is established, and then on and on. I do recommend leaving top leaves as many as possible because leaves are the main sources of producing energy for plants which is then converted into sugars snd nutrients that help plants to ripen its fruit. Again in an area where there is plenty of sun all summer long, its good idea to keep leaves. But in a humid climate with rare sunshine, keeping leaves may cause more harm than good.
