I think that the combat looks great. It is a *concern* of mine, in that I prefer having a massive spellbar (Inquisition only gave us 8 spells and that was too few; I miss Origins in that regard) and don't like doing auto attacks. But it looks great and I know that it's going to still be a lot of fun.
@ hey if it doesn’t bother you then it doesn’t bother you. Thats just what I’ve seen 90% of the people who got review codes say about the combat. Mainly around the 30-40 hour mark people felt bored with the combat. It wasn’t my opinion 😭 however from what in watched personally i am not surprised at all with that. Being only able to use 3 abilities and an ult compared to the previous games bioware has put out is a Huge step-back for me. Sure you can respec but thats a lot of effort to rebuild the whole build around 3 abilities and an ult. Should’ve went back to the KOTOR combat style model imo
Y'know this video may be about tips of the Gameplay...... but for me... the most important part came at the end, the fact that you said that the story is well-written is incredibly reassuring to me. After Bioware lost so many members of the original Dragon Age development team i was worried that the story wasn't going to hold up... I don't need Veilguard to be as astoundingly written as Origins or even Inquisition, i just need it to be.... as you yourself said it...... Well-written. Players of the current time aften forget this..... but not all games have to be Masterpieces, as long as the gameplay is sufficiently fun and the story and characters can hold their own as well..... then i will be satisfied.
Dude I slowed down the video playback speed at the armor section to get a better look. Still trying to figure out if I can be a grey warden and get lord of fortune armor, anyways listening to you at .25 playback speed is hilarious! totally cheered up my shitty day.
Why are people commenting on a video of game they already hate or won't play. This post is clearly for people who want to play the game. It seems like a waste of time commenting if you're not interested in playing lol
Awesome tips, great humor, and a Rook that's very easy on the eyes. Perfect video. Thanks Alex! Looking forward to tomorrow 💖💓 Loved your class breakdown video from a while back by the way. It's 90% of the reason I clicked this video the second it appeared on my feed. Subbed after this one.
kind of anwsered your own question there " I haven't played the other dragon age games" ... They changed a lot of components from the last 3 , combat being completely fast pace and limiting companion party to 2 , design changes , a story that many believe has been watered down and no longer acknowledging world states (which used to be Biowares bread and butter for ALL of their games) ... It's a lot of changes that people ( some who have been waiting 10 years for) were not prepared for thus the anger. Honestly if you're interested in it, play it and hopefully you'll enjoy it. At this point with the mixed reviews it's probably best to just see for yourself.
I played every game and have enjoyed the changes at each one. I really did fall for the series in origins, but each one had me excited with their new mechanics. If people really love the first one at least they can keep replaying it 😴🙄
I’m purchasing this game tonight, and I’ll be prepared to play it tomorrow. I don’t care about haters; I’m here for fun, and this game appears incredibly enjoyable to me. 🙂
If Link from the Zelda series was real, this would be his GOTY. "F*ck Pottery" is probably his (unspoken) motto. Great vid BTW, lots of tips we may not get or be obvious from tutorials etc.
Hell yeah, looking forward to finally getting to play it myself in a dlfew days. Out of curiosity, since it seems like you played around with a lot more of the combat options than some other people doing coverage right now than I've seen: do warriors have any two-handed greatsword options, or are they limited to axes and hammers?
I only played warrior for a few hours so far, but sword and shield, large axe, and large hammer, are the weapons I found. Maybe later on one of those have a skin that more resembles a greatsword.
@@BoomstickGaming Thanks for the response! I'm a little bummed that there may not be any implausibly large swords but I'm sure I'll find something that tickles my brain in combat.
The combat, characters, & story all sound very exciting to me. I’m a bit bummed out by some reviewers pointing out a lack of narrative role playing elements that made DA:O an all time favorite for me, but going in with expectations in check I’m still excited!
Well Boomstick i was thinking to click follow when you went out with skills vid weeks back. And you just confirmed It to me that i have been stupid to wait that long. Great presentation. Following now.
@@PuppetMaster-Blade I have. It was good when the game released 15 years, it feels dated now. While I haven’t played Veilguard yet, I know I’ll prefer the faster pace, and more Mass Effect-style of companion abilities during combat.
@@dikardvondoom3574 Origins is by far the best dragon age game and if its dated then so is Baldurs Gate 3. Inquistion and Veilguard both have massively dumbed down combat to appeal to gamers who are too dumb for a good tactical system and lack the mechanical skills for a legitimate action system. Too easy, feels weightless, no real strategy or tactics needed beyond button mashing and yet still drags things on far too long.
@@dgmt1 Man, you sound like an insufferable twat. “Your opinion is different from mine, therefore you are dumb.” Origins is dated combat. That’s a fact. It’s a 15 yo game. Get over it. To say someone who likes the new DA games, can’t play either BG3 or Souls-likes is just plain moronic. I’ve enjoyed all of the above games, and others from the same genres, and I’ll be enjoying Veilguard. Go cry to your regular negative content grifter. You’ll find no sympathy here. 🤡
@@dgmt1 No, in terms of CRPGS origins was literally dated ON ITS LAUNCH. And this is coming from someone who loves crpgs and origins is my favorite game in the dragon age franchise. CRPGs are not everyones cup, its the reason why theyre niche. Baldurs gate 3 does not count at it isnt real time turn based at all, its a normal turn based game and those are tried and true.
I got the rooks coffer edition pre ordered with a physical copy of the game on ps5. I know the game has a fair amount of controversy.. but i wanna play myself to get a proper opinion. I am already buying the game regardless of review scores. Im too big a fan to just ignore it. Harding is also my canon choice romance. I only have 3 things i want from this game: How solas is handled Hardings story How the inquisition/inquisitor is handled The game has many issues already but as long as those 3 things above are dealt with properly and in a way i like, then i hope to enjoy my time with it.
Great vid! I think my biggest question is; how hard was it to read the battlefield with all the effects goin on? It seems like it'd be easy to just get lost in all the particles.
Funny editing on the video 😂 Seem like people either LOVE this game or HATE it. But ppl that are not even gonna buy it, are going out of their way to let ppl know how bad they “think” this game is… it’s a little funny. They’re just bringing more attention to it 😅🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Ability detonations as you referred to them as are in fact properly called " cross-class combos" have been in bioware games proper since Mass Effect 2. JSYK
And I have mostly ignored them since me2 lol as a kid I never really figured them out since in that game I was always using a sniper for headshots or blowing them up with the Cain. And did similar things in the other games, might have to actually give them a shot this time around.
@@BoomstickGaming gotcha oh. So many things lacking in this game unnecessary name change of said mechanic party size shrunk from 3 companions to 2 companions. Lack of character and party customization as well as lack of available hotkeys.. Origins was the best overall and I personally cant see this being better than Inquisition with all that's been taken away not to mention the lack of influence from previous games. Makes bringing back characters such as Morriggan pointless when she seemingly has no knowledge of past events. Hell they didnt even explore Solas the way they had initially portrayed. IMO DA:VeilGuard seems more akin to DA:2 which we all know how the community felt about it
@@BoomstickGaming that’s what I want to do because Spellblade looks awesome. But you only unlock it pretty late game right? I need to rewatch your previous combat/class style video.
That's the thing. You can actually use both 2H and sword with shield at same time. Think of it like call of duty where u can hold 2 primary weapons. You can switch on the fly during combat
8:40 I'm not keen on the grind required for this gear system. And there's no guarantee you'll get what you want, much less get it four times, no matter how much time you sink into the effort.
Yes, you will. The weapons and stuff aren't RNG loot drops but have pre-defined places you can get them via chests and shops. The main thing that changes is what weapons you get depends on your class (so if you play Rogue you'll be finding bows and daggers, not staves, orbs, hammers etc). Any grind is to use the mats you get from breaking stuff and finding just lying around the maps to increase the weapon's + indicator, which itself is gated by Caretaker level (and also given to you free if you upgrade the rarity of an item as it makes that weapon whatever your caretaker level is).
From what ive seen for warrior and mage you can just pick your set and not worry about its other options, theyll be equiped but the only time youll need to use the other weapon is with ranged moves for puzzles (as the shield is the warriors ranged, but youd still be using your 2h if that makes sense)
@@thorn5228 not necessarily. You can use both as main weapons. With mages the same thing. You can go all in as range mage or use ur other weapon to go for melee hence the spell blade specialization. I'm personally gonna go all in on spellblade with a sprinkle of effects and meteor
Another review said it was pretty good (Forzza). He ran a 4090 with maxed out everything including ray tracing and DLSS without frame gen and was getting 60-80 consistently.
Imagine getting 200 dislikes(20% of people gave thumbs down) in a video focus only on the combat side of the game. The hatred towards this game is crazy
@@BoomstickGaming I wouldn't downvote your vids but I'm pretty sure 0 video games to play in the future will not be a problem for anyone; I'm not interested in this game but the Factorio Space Age DLC just came out and that's more my jam; soooo many games, so many different kinds of games.
Not a fan of the character creation unnecessary additions, but Starfeild had those too which i just ignored. This game looks action packed enough to stay entertained.
I'm on the fence about this game. It _looks_ great from what's been catered to the public, but I can smell something really fishy behind so many of these overly positive reviews that's worrying me. Because of that, I'll be waiting a while after this games launches before deciding if I'll purchase or avoid it. I can smell the dishonesty and shilling behind these reviews. I always can and I'm always right about it. It doesn't help that critical and hesitant comments are already getting deleted off this video.
You can smell the entire concepts of dishonesty & shilling, across thousands upon thousands of miles, & not only that but you are always able to do that & your feelings about it are always right? You are an impressive individual who should offer their services to the highest bidder with the least offensive motives. Maybe Professor X would be interested in working with you.
I really dislike how everyone looks perfect. They look too clean, no bleshmes on their skin or clothing; it breaks the suspension of disbelief for me. BG3 and D&D have this problem too; every NPC looks immaculate, even goblins are perfect. I also don't like how reliant the combat is on the HUD and how spells are just color vomit, there's way too much going on for me to enjoy combat. No reaction to the enemies themselves but to HUD indicators; cant even see the enemy your targeting because of how busy the spells are. Just look at the hp bar or lock on indicator and press buttons, doesn't seem very engaging to me.
Character customization makes way for characters who are not likely to ever be considered traditionally attractive. We have not seen every NPC. Also, there is no one single aesthetic for D&D, a table-top RPG; it is literally impossible for one to realistically expect every single NPC appearance to be described. It is also unlikely for every single NPC to be gorgeous unless the dungeon/game master decided that was the case. CD Projekt Red & Larian Studios do love their beautified NPCs tho, sure, but let's not pretend every NPC was stunning. Bugbears, trolls, illithids, goblins (I disagree with you that they were attractive), Zevlor (in my opinion), the myconids, et al. If you extend this to the entire D&D lore, the list never stops growing depending on who you ask.
@shiningsun2027 you are conflating attractive with perfect. I put D&D in there from the context of the presentation of characters and races in the books. They're boring af now; they have no flaws.
